  6. my oldest, which is now 23, didn't start reading books independently until at least 9 years old, once he figured it out, he was off and reading, finding books he was interested in was the key, he read all the "Cowboy Sam " books at the library and the got him hooked, by JR. high he was and still is my most vivacious reader! I couldn't keep him in books! SChool was never easy for Levi , he had to work really hard, but he read everything, and he did best w/ verbal discussion! he still can discuss history and geography better than any of my other kids. So hang in there! kim

  14. I did the Civil War w/ my kids this year, and my 1st grader colored a lot of Dover Coloring Books about the Civil war, also we made maps of the battles. He also had fun writing his own story in a US shape book about "If he were a spy in the Civil War" . he dictated, I wrote it out, then he copied it into his shape book, and illustrated it. kim
  15. We are on our 3rd intex pool. our first one we loved, but upgraded, and sold it to my sister, she still uses it. then we decided to upgrade again, 2 years later to a metal post framed 18' one , this is our second year, and we dont have any complaints. we've had to order replacement parts and also they replaced our tarp free! we've had wonderful customer service kim
  16. We loved this book, the donkey doesn't talk, there is also a movie, which we enjoyed when we finished reading this book kim
  17. I agree there are many worse things than higher taxes. I think because we are self-employed, this hits us hard. WE have been taxed for this, and that, where we feel all of our money is going for taxes? we're barely keeping our heads above water.
  18. Here is the actual chart ( I couldn't get the chart to show correctly, so I'll just post the link) http://www.taxfoundation.org/publications/show/23003.html from the Tax Foundations website. I still find it interesting, I also agree we should decrease the national debt. BUT, in my household when we need to pay off debt, we SPEND LESS!! not tax our children, or make them start paying rent, etc..... We could drastically reduce the debt, if we would stop funding so many gov't programs. Just my 2 cents, I'm definitely not a Political genius. Just seems to make sense; owe to much...... spend less????? kim
  19. I thought this was very interesting! Whether Democrat or a Republican you will find these statistics enlightening and amazing. www.taxfoundation.org/publications/show/151.html Taxes under Clinton 1999 Taxes under Bush 2008 Single making 30K - tax $8,400 Single making 30K - tax $4,500 Single making 50K - tax $14,000 Single making 50K - tax $12,500 Single making 75K - tax $23,250 Single making 75K - tax $18,750 Married making 60K - tax $16,800 Married making 60K- tax $9,000 Married making 75K - tax $21,000 Married making 75K - tax $18,750 Married making 125K - tax $38,750 Married making 125K - tax $31,250 Both democratic candidates will return to the higher tax rates It is amazing how many people that fall into the categories above think Bush is screwing them and Bill Clinton was the greatest President ever. If Obama or Hillary are elected, they both say they will repeal the Bush tax cuts and a good portion of the people that fall into the categories above can't wait for it to happen. This is like the movie The Sting with Paul Newman; you scam somebody out of some money and they don't even know what happened.

  22. We've used this, Considering God's Creation, Alphabet Island. I loved them all! and so did the kids kim
