  1. HISTORY DD will be 7th grade in the fall. She will be doing MOH Vol. 1. Then for 8th grade MOH Vol. 2. Then for high school, I think we want to use... (not in this order) Notgrass American History, World Geography, Government/Economics, and World History. Other than Notgrass for World History, what would you suggest. (not Abeka or BJU) ---------------- LANG ARTS IEW SWI B (will be our first year using IEW) She will continue using LLATL (green). I want to add spelling, maybe Spelling Plus, Spelling/Vocab, Spelling Power, MCP Spelling Workout... suggestions??) I want to add grammar review, maybe Easy Grammar or ??? I will add one TLP or PP guide this fall of her choosing. ----------------------- MATH She will continue using Teaching Textbooks since she's doing well with it. ------------ SCIENCE 7th-Apologia General 8th-Apologia Physical 9th-Biology, Apologia or Christian Liberty Press (any opinions here?) 10th-Chemistry, probably Friendly Chemistry because we have it 11th-Physics (new to me since ds didn't do it) ------------------ Thank you for your help and input.
  2. Thank you, Sue. I appreciate that you answer my questions. (writing and geometry) :001_smile: Hope to hear comments about at least a few of the others.
  3. Sue, Is this the Discovering Geometry you are talking about? Pic: (below) Table of Contents: 0-Geometric Arty 1- Inductive Reasoning 2-Introducing Geometry 3-Geometric Construction 4-Discovering Geometry 5-Congruence 6-Circles 7-Transformations and Tessellations 8-Area 9-Pythagorean Theorem 10-Volume 11-Similarity 12-Trigonometry 13-Deductive Reasoning 14-Geometric Proof 15-Geometric Proof II Also, would I only need the: text 0-913684-08-2 resource book- 0-9138-684-09-0 TE guide/key 0-913684-68-6 Is there anything else I would need with it? What about Sketchpad on their site? Thank you!
  4. If my student has completed Teaching Textbooks Algebra 1 (NOT the 2.0 version), would he be ready for Bob Jones Algebra 2 or are there some parts of Bob Jones Algebra 1 that he would need to do? I have tried looking at the table of contents to both curriculums and both levels, and my head is spinning. I appreciate any help you can give. Thank you! The ToC below for TT are for the new versions. We have the older versions. I noted what is included in what we have. There may be more/less, but didn't take the time to check each lesson in case some were just rearranged... 5. I see these on sale in the Kmart ad often. A lot of times it's the over the toilet organizer shelf, a magazine holder, and something else like an over the door hooks for $25-30... I've seen just the over the toilet organizer shelves for about $15-20 at some stores.
  6. Sue, I'm curious... Would completing Discovering Geometry by Key Curriculum Press count as 1 credit? What about Algebra by Key Curr. Press? Thanks!
  7. Can you share pros and cons about any of the following for a student that struggles with writing? (but is improving) Wordsmith Put That In Writing Writeshop Jensen's Format Writing Writing Skills (saw on RR) IEW B or C or any others you'd suggest or that I should avoid? Thank you!
  8. I didn't know the new version has multiple choice answers. :001_huh: I really want the new self grading option for Algebra I and II, but maybe we'll just stick with the older versions. Hmmm.... Although if he just keeps showing his work, the self grading may be worth it.
  9. Those are things that will be completed before or by graduation. Three of which he will finish this summer. The rest are scheduled as a "normal school" day of seven class "hours" would be. We had eight class hours each year I was in high school. Seems normal, not ambitious. Except for the math. Both math programs worked completely fine for ds. I do regret making ds go through Algebra I *again* with another curriculum because of the input I received here last year. He gets Algebra and is completely bored with the busywork of it. Our friend, a homeschool dad and university math professor, suggested he do Geometry and Algebra II side by side his senior year to get them both in. While reading/watching Transcript Bootcamp, Logic is listed as an English credit. I agree and will probably move it over to electives. The university is not specific regarding science except there must be at least one that includes lab. He is interested in Graphic Art, Computer Animation, Graphic Design. Per the university dual admissions, his plan looks fine. Two years is what he needs. He is not a competitive young man.
  10. This is what is required of high school graduates at the university he plans to attend: 4 units of English, two units must emphasize composition or writing 3 units of mathematics, including Algebra I, II and Geometry 3 units of sciences, including at least one lab science 3 units of social sciences 1 unit of visual/performing arts 3 units of electives, selected from foreign language and combinations of the above courses. He has: (items in blue will be completed by graduation) English I 1.0 English II 1.0 World Lit 0.5 Am. Lit 1.0 (w/ comp) British Lit 1.0 (w/ comp) Intro Logic 0.5 5 Algebra I 1.0 Geometry 1.0 Algebra II 1.0 3 Astronomy 0.5 Geology 0.5 Human Bio 0.5 Biology 1.0 (w/ lab) Chemistry 1.0 (w/ lab) Intro Phys. 0.5 4 World Hist. 1.0 World Geog. 1.0 Am. History 1.0 Govt 0.5 Economics 0.5 4 Art History 0.5 Guitar 1.0 (more fine arts, not listing here) CC Art 1.0 2.5 Spanish 1.0 CC Spanish 1.0 2 So according to their requirements, which classes are not sufficient?
  11. No, he did Key to Algebra in 10th grade, and then TT Algebra for 11th grade since Keys is supposedly not high school worthy... History: American history Science: Human Biology and anatomy Electives: chess, guitar, drivers ed, typing, small engines, AP art history, spanish (finishing up for 1 full credit rather than 1/2 credit) THIS SUMMER: Geometry Intro to Logic Intro to Physics ? Personal Finance 12th grade (this fall) Bible: Christian Manhood Math: Algebra II (prob along side geometry) Language Arts: British Lit w/ comp; Essay writing History: Govt; Economics Science: Chemistry (w/lab) Electives: CC Spanish, CC Art, Practical graphic design
  12. No, he did Keys to Algebra. Then after reading the reply below from my previous post (spring 2011) you are referring to he began to work on TT Algebra... which put him behind in math... perhaps it wasn't the best idea. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Reply last year from Kareni: I'll just speak to your math plans. Yes, Algebra 2 can be competed before Geometry. One curriculum that follows that plan is Life of Fred. I see that you are using Key to Algebra now for Algebra 1. Be aware that the Keys to program is not necessarily a complete Algebra 1 course, and your son may be ill prepared for Algebra 2 in 12th grade. Likewise, Key to Geometry is not a typical Geometry program and many would not consider it worth a full credit for Geometry. Best wishes with your planning. Regards, Kareni ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
  13. What should be added? This is ds high school transcript so far.
