  1. I can't teach Geometry. Don't even want to try. Potter's School seems to have a good rep, but I'd appreciate hearing if there are other options for online classes. Chalkdust is great, but I want him to have a teacher he can talk to on a regular basis, not just when he's stuck, kwim?
  2. Yeah! Dh has agreed to allow ds to take some some classes through Potter's School next year. Thing is, I have heard nothing about the text they use. Has anyone had experience with Geometry from the UCSMP ("Chicago Math") series? Dh has been happy with ChalkDust, which we use for Algebra, but I can't help with Geometry and dh's work schedule is such that he knows it would be best to just outsource. tia :)
  3. but I try to find them used so my loss can be kept to a minimum. Sometimes I re-sell, sometimes I keep it because it might work for another one of my dc. I've been at this for eight years and I've learned it's worthwhile for me to spend a little extra to find the "right" material.
  4. This is one program that was easy for me to implement. It didn't require much of me, except to pop the cd into the computer and have supplies ready. Well, I did go over directions with them, but really, it's very easy to use for the non-artsy mom. I still have the work they did from several years ago because they turned out so well!
  5. safe, easy access to your classes. There is an Embassy Suites that may work for you-depending on how long you are going to stay. If you go into Aurora, you want to be more careful about where you stay.
  6. Really, it was just busywork for my children and (ahem)..it took me awhile to figure that out:rolleyes: They are avid readers and, I believe, natural spellers as a result. We use Kimber's copywork/dictation books now and catch spelling problems that way, but they are minimal and usually the result of carelessness, not ignorance. So what has worked for us? Having them read alot.
  7. The Book Depository was one of the fastest shipments I have ever received! No kidding-I was very impressed and would order from them again in a hearbeat.:)
  8. Julie Shields from this board was kind enough to send me the templates and directions. I have no idea how to send an attachment-I wonder if I forward you the email if the attachment goes also? Julie-is that o.k. with you?
  9. I've kept it and plan on using it again when my youngest is a little older. We did not do lapbooking-rather notebooking and I loved the results. Y'know, now that I think about it-it kind of reminds me of the science version of TOG. It's impossible to do all she suggests. She gives you the main topics to cover and resources to choose from-then you take it from there. Now that I have become adept at TOG, LSwRB should be a breeze:)
  10. Sounds like a God thing that he remembered his class lecture from the day before! So glad to hear he's o.k. My 14 y.o. ds is always talking about "when I get my D.L..." Needless to say, I can wait on that one:eek:
  11. the Turbo Jam live! Cardio party remix. Lol! I was not expecting what I got. It's a dance routine the likes of which I will never be able to keep up with, nor am I sure I want to. Young girls would probably get a kick out of it though. If you're interested I can sell you mine for $11 ppd. I got mine from ebay-when I tried calling the 800 # it was too confusing and they tried to sell me more than what I wanted.
  12. about a mouse that falls in love with a princess. Terrific story about courage , bitterness, forgiveness- lots of character lessons.
  13. by Kate Di Camillo. We just finished this. I'll definitely read more books by this author. It was great!
  14. No Kidding! I was thinking of just getting some baskets from Kmart and dumping them in that:p
  15. My dh is also self employed so I understand only too well how difficult it can be to deal with insurance companies. In fact, frustration over maternity coverage is what led me to homebirth my last three children. I'm not suggesting you do that as that is an extremely personal decision, but just wanted to let you know I understand the frustration and will pray God opens a door for you.
  16. My 12 y.o. started a few months ago and it honestly never occurred to me to take her in for a gyne appt. I think my first appt. was in college. It'll be interesting to see what others say.
  17. I don't know how my older dc managed to get to 14, 12 and 9 with no playmobil's but my younger three have discovered them and we are beginning a small collection. Do you keep them together in each box so pieces don't get mixed up? So far they have been wonderfully careful with making sure each piece goes back into the right box, but I'm wondering if it would be easier to just let the pieces get mixed up in a basket. Will we regret it if we toss the boxes and mix them all up?
  18. We don't do the Santa Claus bit, Easter Bunny, Halloween or evolution. I presented it all pretty much the same way-just matter of fact. We believe this because .... others don't think the same way and that's o.k. At that young age, that's all my dc needed to hear. Obviously as they get older, the discussions get deeper, and that's a good thing. I don't completely dismiss a resource because it doesn't line up with all my beliefs. What's the saying?..chew up the meat, spit out the bones? If the dvd has some good points, I'd show it, and just prepare them ahead of time for where we would disagree.
  19. Contradictions really bug me in other people, but I seem to be o.k. with my own:rolleyes:
  20. After that, I knew the program and just followed it to teach my other dc how to read. I found they were ready for reading, but not ready to do all the writing involved. I did not do the pre-k program. My other dc were familiar with the phonics songs and games from listening to their older sibling so we just went straight to reading when they asked for it. Currently using it with my 4th, definitely getting my money's worth!
  21. Can't imagine restaurant owners would be too happy about it.
  22. Similar to Girl Scouts in that they have sashes and earn badges for projects. My girls participated for a year and loved it.
  23. Their website is wonderful, I didn't check to see if the book you are looking at is there, but they would definitely have suggestions.
  24. We spent a long weekend up there (we are in Ga.) My dc are 14,12,9,5,3, 22mos. The older three really enjoyed it, the 5 and 3 y.o. were just happy to be on a trip and tent camping. The 22 month old did his best to run away every chance he got because that's what he does no matter where we are. The grounds are beautiful and dh and I took turns out there with the younger ones when they'd had enough of being inside. There are some cool bridges, and the landscaping is gorgeous. My older dc enjoyed taking their time looking at everything, watching the movies and of course shopping in the bookstore. Since yours are on the younger side it might get frustrating.
