  1. I am so glad you asked this question. I have always wondered the same thing...
  2. While there are lots of free things to do in DC, it is one of the most expensive places to vacation. Hotels, parking and food aren't cheap. I think you will definitely do in Gatlinburg than DC.
  3. I agree something is wrong - they just haven't done the right test or interpreted the results right. Age really doesn't matter when it comes to menopause/perimenopause. It could be. It could also be some other hormone issues. It could be a lot of things from allergy to autoimmune disease. It could also be effects of the ED. Sometimes it takes the body a long time to recover from an ED, and sometimes when you are getting better you feel worse. My sister has struggled with an ED. You need a more thorough work up. Look for a Functional Medicine doctor. You can find a practitioner and learn more at this website. There are quite a few in PA.
  4. It is standard to guarantee the part not the labor. My dh works in the car business and it's very typical when this happens. It's not their fault the pump was faulty. You actually can ask about where they get their parts. There is no way for them to know if one is faulty. It's an unfair situation, but I agree with Lara that it's not fair to the shop or the mechanic either to have to eat the cost. I would ask if they would be willing to discount their labor.
  5. But you said she obsesses and panics that gave me a different idea. I think it is wise for college girls to be armed with information/tools to protect themselves from rape. All women should because it's a real threat. It's not that rape doesn't happen. In fact, I know someone who got pg as a result of rape in college. She should be prepare, but obsessing over it to the point of panic is an overreaction unless she has been raped or is at real risk in the moment. I think that is why you got the responses you got. It's good that she's getting counseling. Tell her to I agree use an escort!!
  6. I have been that friend. It's hard when you feel so overwhelmed that you can't keep up relationships. In fact, I am just this week coming out of the overwhelmingness of my life! (Is that a word?) I finally had to let go of a job I was doing to help make ends meet to get my life back. RAD is tough - especially with one being severe. Working night shift makes it hard to keep up with things because it's a different schedule from everyone else. The friendships that survived that time are the ones who understood. I just talked to a dear friend yesterday after not talking to her for more than 12 months. And she was so gracious and didn't make me feel bad for not calling her back the last time she called. Send her a card and a note! Is it possible she is struggling with depression?
  7. :iagree: My mom has Factor V Leiden and low blood pressure. And there are things she can take to prevent pregnancy. Does she pass out often? If this were my daughter, she wouldn't be going to college. The anxiety is a bigger concern to me. This level of anxiety over something that probably won't happen tells me she's not ready to go away to college on her own.
  8. I agree TWC must be trained well! They have a lot of energy and strength that must me channeled for good!
  9. Oh! He looks like a Walker to me! I hope you have a lot of energy! We had one. We were told he was a beagle puppy too. Somewhere on the way to 75 lbs we discovered he was a Treeing Walker Coonhound. They need a lot of exercise - both physical and mental. They are dogs who will high strung if not challenged enough. The love to work. They also are very affectionate - they think they are lap dogs. Ours would literally lay on us. He's lay on my feet when I was cooking, climb in my lap when I was on the couch. They need a lot of attention and affection. He would also lay on the kids. They are very gentle in spirit and never aggressive in a mean way. But they are strong. Our dog knocked me over many time and twice he pulled me off my feet when we were walking. (I am not a petite lady either at 5'11") He was hard for the kids to walk, but he loved the kids. They are great with other pets - dogs, cats.
  10. My dh is ADD - it's hard! I have been reading the ADHD Effect on Marriage. It's been helpful for both of us. We have a very similar joke in our house that keeps us from killing each other. When he's being particularly distracted and I am getting annoyed, he stops midsentence and says "squirrel!" Just like the dogs from UP seen here. It makes me laugh and it's his way of recognizing how hard it is for me to have to be his brain or to repeat something for the millionth time.
  11. I have 2 with allergies plus dh. We get sick one or twice a year. We all see to get a cold once a year, and every other year or so we get a tummy bug or strep or something.
  12. I like AAS in the early years. But once they can be independent, I love Phonetic Zoo because even though it's pricey it's not consumable. This is great for a family. We have fewer kids, but it's cheaper in the long run than workbooks. I did use The Grammar of Spelling with my oldest before we discovered AAS for spelling before she was ready for Phonetic Zoo. We have just started using their advanced set with our oldest. It is unfortunately at the moment not available. It seems like they are improving it.
  13. Very worth it IMO! For a press it depends on how many you make. If it's just a few, by hand is best. If it's a lot a press makes a difference. I almost only make burrito size, and I did it by hand for 10 years. Now I have a press.
  14. Well our schools have 170 days (that's half a year) and 7 hours but that includes lunch/recess. So actual school hours are 1020. That would take not quite 3 hours a day all year around to exceed school hours. 4 hours a day is 1460 hrs a year. You know they often spend more than that on weekends and summers. I think it's very accurate that the average American kids does spend that much more time watching TV.
  15. :iagree: We would do it for a while - keeping the cafe as something to come back to later.
  16. We had a good year with it. My 7th grader did it, and she earned a silver medal on the NLE. She did Henle I in 6th and a couple years before that. So she is not new to Latin. I felt the need not to move onto Henle II with her. But repeating I didn't seem necessary. So we tried something different. I didn't teach it. We did an online class. She will do LNM2 in the fall in an online class with Latin and Classics.
  17. :iagree: I have had a boy and girl start at five (not the oldest though) they have both done well.
  18. I have a recipe that is amazing - I don't have it with me. But it uses twice as much lemon as most recipes call for. They are delicious. I will post it when I get back home.
