  1. Mary Poppins gave me a complex about cleaning :) I was disappointed when my toys did not move when I snapped! I love a clean house. We have too much stuff and too little space. I have been working to get rid of stuff for two years. We had a garage sale last October and then put the leftovers on the curb. It cleared at least four truckbeds worth of stuff from our house!! I actually like to clean, I find it relaxing and fulfilling when I am not days from my due date. Right now, it just has to be done and I hate it!
  2. I wish I could find my notes from the local homeschool convention this year....but I do not know where I put them! Voddie Baucham spoke about this topic. I loved what he had to say. But he was against the idea of sending kids into public schools to be "the salt and the light" in the schools. I will look around for my notebook, I cannot remember exactly what he said, but I thought he made some great points.
  3. Lilly is 4.5, we are using the R&S ABC workbooks, a bunch of A+ workbooks I picked up at Target in the dollar aisle, 100 easy lessons and phonics pathways, BOBB books, and maybe some Mortensen Math counting workbooks. She is very smart, but not interested in really learning yet. We will be doing lots of art. She is quite a talented painter for 4 :)
  4. I remember gymnastics being prettier when I was little. I watched them like I watched ballerinas....maybe I was just too young to really notice, but I even see a difference from 4 years ago.
  5. I just saw a couple of the Australian floor routines, I missed their names; but the second one impressed me more than any on the US team did at trials. Her lines and foot shape were much better. It looked like she had actually had some dance. Watching the trials, I was really annoyed by the gymnastics feet, I cringed at many of their pointes! But, I spend my evenings teaching kids to properly pointe and how tostretch theor knees and create beautiful lines....I am also a choreogrpapher, so it makes me crazy when they can't match the music at all!
  6. We had three Cinderella performances, strike amd I made dd a.pillow for her guinea pig without going into labor. Baby can officially come any time now!!! Nothing left to do until September! Except clean the house.....again.
  7. White! I hate painting ceilings, I would do white so if I changed the room in a few years, I would not have to paint the ceilings again.
  8. I have a full manipulative set and I believe....a full workbook set. My DH's patents homeschooled all of their kids. DH pulled it all out of storage. I used the counting amd addition workbooks sets with DS at 4 and 5.....he understood so much more....multiplication, division, basic algebra....just from working through 20, 20 page workbooks. They were so short and easy to do, but the method worked well. I love all the manipulatives. Even more so since they were free ;)
  9. I would be sad and I would miss them, but I know that moving away for the first few years of pur marriage was very good for dh and I. We moved home because we could, but sometimes work takes you far away. Being 6 hours away helped us develop an independence that some other people I know never developed.
  10. I picked other. Neither of Tue first two fit me. I went to college, I have a master's degree, I own a business where I get to do what I love, plus keep my kids with me if I need to. I am married to a wonderful man and I get to homeschool my kids. If my baby girl wants to do that I am supportive. If she wants to have a high powered career, fine. If she wants to stay at home, fine. Whatever she wants to do, I will support her decision. Of course, right now.....she wants to be just like me ;) she is only 4.
  11. Today my 4 year of wanted to practice writing letters. She never wants to do that. It was bedtime, but I gave in. She wrote A B C D E F G..... "What is next, Mommy?" "H" " How do you make H?" I explain... 'I can make X! I'll do x next! Now what is after X?" ....um, you just skipped most of th alphabet!! I wrote H I J K L "Mommy, you have to do L M M O P." (Sung in tune) I write and say L M N O P "No, you do L M M O P!!" "I did, see L M N O P.' Frustrated.... "Here, I do x!"
  12. Cold watermelon is our favorite summer desert! Fresh fruit smoothies are good too.
  13. I used it in 9th grade when I was in school. We spent the fall working with it and moved on in the spring.
  14. I have 8 in the house, one in the garage with no books and at least three more shelves worth in boxes with no permanent home.
  15. I have not tried it this morning, but they said the lesson plan feature was fixed now. I yried it last night and it kept "thinking." I may not get to play more until Sunday.
  16. I stopped at one!! I am on my phone and it was super slow!! Maybe tomorrow when I am on the computer :)
  17. I have never tried to sell anyone on homeschooling. I have explained to my family why it is better for us, but I have not tried to convince any of my cousins to homeschool. If they asked, I would say why it works for us; the reasons you listed are reasons it works for us. I am sure they will change as the kids get older; but for now short days, sibling relationships, and hands on learning are big. We don't get as many field trips in as I would like, but we are real homebodies during the day. We spend so much time out in the evenings we just like to move slow and stay home during the day.
  18. DH has been drinking hot tea at bedtime to help with his congestion, he asked me if I wanted some and I wanted to laugh. He would have had no idea!
  19. Take a first day of school picture and do something special. I took pictures of both kids last year and just DS the year before. We made the first day special. We also went bowling on the day all the public schools went back :) it was fun! Pick something that can be your special tradition. Then post your pictures on Facebook. :grouphug:
  20. It Is different....I got the long form of the census last year.....or whenever it came, time has all run together for me ;) Yea, basically says we will be fined for not doing it. I just really don't want to spend baby prep time on it.:glare: I have so much to do! Oh well...if I make it through our musical this weekend without having a baby, I will get it done. Otherwise, it waits until after I am recovered :)
  21. Ours is $20 to join the support group, then for co-op we pay and insurance fee per child, a facility fee per family, and then fees per class. Last year I paid less than $100 for the year total. Some classes have higher materials fees. The fees don't pay teachers, just cover supplies.
