  1. Thanks for answering my yogurt question. Sadly, it only did marginally better the second time. (I have one more option for saving it, so I'll see how that goes.) I don't think I adjusted enough for the cold, snowy weather. For some reason, parts of my batches often come out grainy. Appetizing huh! Anyway, thanks again for your help.

  2. Thanks so much for sharing your experience with HWT. I am a "rules follower" so the idea of skipping a book is hard on my little brain. It was nice to read that someone had already done what I am considering. I'll keep an eye on ds's penmanship to help me decide. Where is that crystal ball?... I really want to place my order now!

    Thanks again.

  3. Thanks so much for your post about HWT. Your post reminded me of my dh, he always seems to be able to distill things down to something wonderfully simple whereas I make everything overly complicated. Anyway - I really appreciate it. Have a great weekend.

  4. My ds is just finishing up the K book so I getting ready to purchase the 1st grade workbook. To save on shipping I thought I'd look into the 2nd grade workbook and I was wondering if it is necessary. From the sample pages on their website it looks like copywork. Is there more to it than that? Would copywork be covered enough in FLL when we get to that? (If I understand FLL correctly.) Thanks in advance.
  5. Gracious Yvette! That's intense. I can only picture breaking my ankle doing that. Great job on the 30!!!!:cheers2: (Low-carb beer of course.) ETA: That's what I'm doing in my avatar, how funny.
  6. We watched our first downloaded movie and I've gotta say, it was great. My laptop's monitor is pretty small and I don't have the recommended RAM, but it didn't matter, it played fine. The clarity of the video was incredible. You might check if your library would participate. It's called MyLibraryDV.

Dread factor... I know all about it.

  7. Obviously, I haven't seen a lot of it, but from what I've seen it has the classic Dickens' Good and Bad characters. The bad look really bad but, because it is Dickens, I know it will turn out all right. (I told you before I'm a sucker for a happy ending.) Also, the good are just likable so I want to watch it just so I can keep up on them.

Diet-wise, do you like what you're doing? I'm trying to back into exercise - I've always been into sports but where I live now, Cheyenne, is windy and the weather is really hindering me, so I am trying to either see if I can afford to join something or find something inside my house that I like. I admire that you're exercising so well. I seem to only be able to do it if it's fun!

I found the coolest little toy. My library has enabled us to "checkout" and download movies. I just started it today with Sherlock Holmes. (The ones with Jeremy Brett, another of my favorites) I'm so happy to have access to Poirot!

    Protect those knees!

  8. bump - not wishing to waste all this milk :tongue_smilie:
  9. I just made a batch of yogurt yesterday and, for the first time, it didn't turn out. It just looks thin still, like milk. Can I just retry the whole process again with a new batch of starter? Thanks
  10. Ok I'm back - taxes completed and computer revamped. (My hard drive crashed a while back and so now I am a little obsessive about performance and backing-up.)

So how are the munchkins? I also wanted to ask, what "plan" are you following for your weight loss, or is it more just patience after childbirth?

Weird switch-around at our house. My dh (Onslo) has been camped out on Sundays watching the Little Dorit series! I think it's a five-parter so we'll see if he sticks it out. I couldn't watch much of the first few episodes and now that I've seen one I'm bummed that I didn't catch it from the beginning. My poor ds is going to grow up thinking that what we're interested in is normal... he already plays cars using a British accent!

  11. Me too. The passport means YOU'VE DECIDED!!! So, yup, big deal! ;) One question, what was with the oath? I've never had to do that to get a passport.
  12. Hi,

Thanks for your messages - you weren't on ignore, my computer has been locking up a lot while we're online and so I've spent this weekend and today trying to roll it all back to a better state. I will write again the computer isn't busy updating.

Congrats on the weight loss. I couldn't tell from your message if you were pleased or not. I hope you are, that's a great (and tough) thing you're doing.

  13. As far as learning how to do it I would second all the previous posters' ideas, combined. This is how I did it: watched the videos - they taught me a lot but from them I didn't have a picture of how it all would piece together so... then I joined the hstlessons yahoo groups, (You sign up for all the different groups that you are interested in and then it takes about a day to get approved.) and downloaded a lesson plan and imported it into a dummy database. Just examining it made what I'd learned in those videos start to make sense. I dove in and started writing an LP and practiced, again in the dummy database, submitting assignments. Also, definitely get on their discussion group. I signed up for the digest and have learned much from other poster's questions and answers.
  14. Could you be more specific - are you wondering how it works or how it effects my planning...? I use HST+ and I do love it. Here is a brief idea of how I have used it/use it: Each week I submit the assignments that I want us to complete from the lesson plans, I use the lesson plan schedules and that really helps me to make sure I'm hitting all the bases. Weekly, I assign our catechism memorization. This is so helpful because I inputted everything at the beginning of the year and now it pretty much takes care of itself. Wrote 2 curriculum from scratch because there was nothing out there for just what I needed in those subject areas. Their features made this possible because the program helped me to really be orderly in my thought processes and it arranged the repeating patterns for me. Why does it help me versus just a list in a spiral? - I don't want to have to think about the mundane e.g. Do MUS page 12 (or even just "Do MUS"), but I do want it assigned and in front of my face. I want my more different lesson plans to be plotted out so that I no longer have to think about the planning, but rather just getting the supplies, etc together. My courses are progressing at different speeds but it doesn't matter because I assign them weekly (no rescheduling the whole year) and I can see, very visually, what still must be done for the rest of the year. Hope I can help.
  15. So, once you get the KUA set you'll be all set whenever television hits new lows! I'm thinking that you probably ought to get it sooner rather than later, before they get hard to find. I'm hoping that Onslo completes my Agatha Christie - Miss Marple set. Have you ever watched it? Even if one didn't care for mysteries, the glorious English countryside and thatched roofs are worth every moment. I often wonder, what is it about the Brits and their humor. I don't know if you feel this way, but after watching something like KUA, I see ads for American sitcoms and they look so predictable and just generally terrible that I can't bring myself to watch anything but maybe House.

BTW, love your new avatar. Hope Smarty Pants and Messy Pants are both doing great,

    :seeya:

Just wondering, what are your Group Picts about?

  16. Thanks for getting back to me. I think I'll just keep working with the things I have - I'm always trying to keep things fresh for my son but, oftentimes, it seems that he really doesn't need it anyway.

    Thank you again,

    Sylvia

  17. :lurk5: I have been bouncing around the idea of getting a dryer but am never sure if the rewards are worth the effort.
  18. It sounds like you've really thought this through. K12 had been my first choice until we figured out that we just couldn't afford it. On a side note, I would also enjoy an extra push... something to think on... Hope it continues to go as well as it has started. :001_smile:
  19. I remembered a thread on this recently. Here it is. :001_smile:
