  1. Thanks to anyone who prayed for my sweet little dog. She's OK but will probably need medication. An alert for others with dogs - apparently NOT having their teeth cleaned can be harmful to them. I really don't understand all of it but I hope this little tidbit might help someone else. If your vet says to do it, don't wait. We waited until we could afford it and much damage has resulted. Now I'm off to research heart health for dogs - and I thought I was going to be looking up lapbooks and such this weekend.
  2. my wonderful little Bassett Hound went into the vet this morning for what I thought was just supposed to be a teeth cleaning and the vet called me and said that she has a bad heart murmur and might not make it because of the anesthesia. She's my little pal and I'm having a hard time of it this morning. Thanks, Sylvia
  3. After discovering a great thread about Classical Sunday School, I found a neat forum toy that I thought I'd share. The thread had a lot of great information that I wanted to save for future reference and usually I would just subscribe to the thread adding to the 29 I already had. Instead, under the thread tools, there is an option to show a printable version so I set it to show the thread on one page then printed it to my pdf printer option and just filed it on my drive. Hope this helps someone else. Unless perhaps you have all discovered this fine feature... if so, humor me and tell me what a great find it was.
  4. I believe it is British-English to say "maths." At least, I hear it most from Brits and Aussies. I find those differences to be strangely endearing.
  5. :iagree:Or rather, she might think it was inappropriate and would probably resist the temptation.
  6. Hi, My name is Sylvia... and I have postaphobia. ("Hi Sylvia.") I haven't posted in a while but I'm committed to starting again. I don't post often because, after a few experiences of being made to feel stupid, whenever the desire hits, I will usually think-twice and then ultimately decide against it. (Should I post this, I'm asking myself?) It's nice to feel like I belong to a group!!:tongue_smilie:
  7. Cathmom,

I was wondering if you might be able to help me. I saw on one of your posts that you taught German so I thought you might be a good resource. I am looking to see if there are any free online sources of recorded German children's music. As we finish each chapter of our German study I just thought it would be nice to have a little music day.

Thanks for any help and I hope you have a great weekend.

    Sylvia :001_smile:

  8. Stacia,

Thanks so much for trying to help me locate that German resource. It's appreciated.

  9. So... how was it? Were you constantly comparing "him" to Olivier? On the depression meter, how did it stack up to Tess?

Which was better, that or the Are You Being Served marathon?

    :lurk5:

  10. I am using Homeschool Tracker Plus. (the paid version) I really like how it is designed and cannot write enough about the quality of their customer service.
  11. My Musings...

OK, I finally had a chance to look into Good Neighbors - I am so surprised. I think I mentioned that my Uncle had dated one of the cast of Rosemary & Thyme? Well, she's in your show, Felicity Kendall. Isn't that odd?

RE: Are You Being Served, Does it fit into your curriculum at all? Perhaps you could assign it to your kids so that you will all watch it together? :tongue_smilie: A few Christmases (sp?) ago my husband bought us a DVD set of Miss Marple, sadly though it was only four episodes and I just need more!!

In a way I'm glad that you didn't really like "Tess" either. I felt rather shallow for not liking it. I know I'm a sucker for a good ending but, gracious, how many terrible calamities befalling one character can you shove into a novel? Enough already. I am working through The Well-Educated Mind with a friend of mine and we have just reached Pride & Prejudice. What a contrast to Tess. Perhaps I could just avoid reading any of the really dreadful stories and keep to the "happy ones!"

Good to hear about Smartypants, she's such a cute little girl by her pics. Perhaps at least when she loses her teeth you can have something to balance out the "she's getting bigger" feelings.

Hope you are all feeling better.

  12. OP - thanks for posting this experience. My ds is only five but I personally hate on-the-job-training so I've learned a lot from the "picking apart." Sylvia
  13. I did use these, and, for my ds they did not work. I had an older version than what I saw on the website but they seem basically the same. (He's only 5 now so they obviously weren't very old because they were given to us new.) We diligently watched the videos for a year or more, the way they instruct, we read the books together and we did not have our son watch very much other television at all. I did enjoy the way the videos were put together but I never saw any reading ability develop at all. In case you wonder, having read this, developmentally my son is normal with a fabulous vocabulary and is learning to read quickly. Sorry to be a downer. Sylvia
  14. Could you tell Richard that we need his help? Onslo needs him to help take away our broken down car, you know, the one that has been sitting in our front yard.

Yes, at the moment there really is a broken-down car in front of my house that needs to be taken away! "Onslo" and I wanted to share that with you.

  15. Thanks for the cute cartoon - made my day. (Haven't had much Hive time so sorry this is way late.)

By the way, I looked up Apiphobic - very funny.

  16. Hi Rhonda,

Thanks anyway for getting back to me. My method seems to actually be working out pretty good - I must say I love HST.

    Happy schooling and Merry Christmas,

    Sylvia

  17. Rhonda,

I saw your thread post about loop scheduling and HST+ and was wondering if you had come up with a way to work them together? I have been trying it and asked for better ideas on the Homeschool Tracker Discussion group and just yesterday there were others asking the same, so I thought I'd try and hunt down anyone doing it. Whenever you have time I'd love to hear your thoughts. Thanks so much for any ideas.

Here is a link to what I wrote on their board if you are interested.

    Have a great weekend,

    Sylvia

  18. :iagree:What exciting news - you must be so proud. :cheers2: I hope you will consider sharing his pictures with us. I am a travel hound and seeing pictures of Japan would be fabulous. (I hope that doesn't make me just plain nosey!) :tongue_smilie:
  19. Oh dear how could I have made such a blunder... I was thinking so hard about not typing Daisy that I didn't even picture who Rose was! I'm so ashamed!!! (Does this faux pas make me... Elizabeth?) Perhaps we can still hope that Rose will indeed marry a Greek shipping tycoon and make you proud.

I must also admit to having completely forgotten about the musical bidet. I need to watch more KUA and... you need to get out more. :D

I'll make sure to tune in this week if I can find it.

  20. I'm just itching to know who it was... Sheridan? Your sister, Rose, with the sauna and room for a pony?

A few years ago I had a cable installer come by a few times. I had the hardest time talking with him at first because his name was... Tarquin! He had a British accent so it was all I could do to not laugh whenever he was here.

I was just reading a thread about the tone on the boards for the veterans and I just thought I'd say thanks for our little exchange - it's been nice to feel connected.

    Sylvia
