I will look into the movies you all have mentioned. I've seen a couple of the Toy Story films but not the others mentioned. Thanks for taking the time to reply. As Lecka mentioned, I was hoping to find something a bit more adult so that he doesn't feel like this is a childish issue. I am going through the Zones of Regulation with DS12 who is gifted. He is quite sensitive to violence, graphic scenes, darkness/evil and loudness. We are on lesson 3, Zones in video and the suggested video is The Outsiders which I think would clearly not work for him. (Charlie Brown and Finding Nemo are suggested also but they are obviously more childish.) Does anyone have a suggestion for another film that would illustrate the zones and the expected/unexpected behaviors, etc.? He does have a fun sense of humor and loves Brit comedies and old shows, i.e. Burns and Allen, so he is open to a wide variety I think. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks

How funny - yes, this is absolutely about spelling. I think I accidentally wrote that because we were doing grammar just before I had a chance to write this post. I wonder if I can edit the title.

That is the thrust of our question. We can't think of any words with whi which are long but not vowel-consonant-e. So we can't figure out why it is open. When the workbook wants vowel-consonant-e as an answer, it is visually obvious in the question.

In my son's spelling workbook (How to Spell, level 3, page 17) it asks the following question. Label the syllable: open, dipthong, closed or vowel-consonant-e Whi My son answered dipthong but the answer key lists it as open. Would it be pronounced with a long or short vowel-sound? Thanks

You're not joking. Everyone who watches them seems to have day-long or week-end long marathons. In Asian countries, when the different series come out on DVD, many people take off work just to watch them.

My family are all hooked on these dramas. I am just ahead of you in Queen Seondeok and my sister and mom just keep telling me that there is still so much more to look forward to. What has been your favorite part so far? Isn't Mi Sil an awesome villian?! She would freak me out. I wish I could know when the violent parts would come up though. I can't watch it very often because my ds is sensitive to violence. Come to think of it, I think I might run down and watch another episode tonight. I'm not sure if you're asking specifically about Korean shows but another one in is Dae Jang Geum. It's another great drama. Apparently the costumes are again fabulous. It's about the first female royal chef and my sister said the aspect of food in it was great. My mom has found lots more Asian series at Dramafever.com. I think I might copy your idea and go watch when my dd - 9 mos. gets up at weird hours.

Thanks all for your replies. I've looked at the possibilities that you have all suggested and I still can't find the reasoning behind the order. I will probably just follow them in the suggested order and not try to align them with SOTW. I chose to use these suggestions rather than the Activity Guide for a few reasons. First, it takes me too long to try to find any of the titles through our library. I have to camp out at the computer or at the library for far too long. It all results in a severe slowing down of our progress for SOTW. Second, I am finding that my ds doesn't remember the books that we read on the smaller topics so I just want to simplify and focus our reading on the the major topics and prepare him for the future history/lit cycles of the great books. I am trying to make a library list for history and literature so that everything aligns with our SOTW 2 chapters. Looking at the literature list for Medieval/Early Renaissance in WTM, it advises that the suggested books and authors be read in the order that they are listed. I don't understand why Shakespeare plays are before King Arthur stories and Martin Luther. Timeline-wise that doesn't make sense to me. I don't know how to get this to work with the SOTW 2 chapter order. Also, does anyone have a recommendation of a SOTW 2 chapter that aligns well with The Inferno? Any help or advice will be greatly appreciated.

Although I don't know if it would work for kids, I highly recommend Michel Thomas CDs. He really teaches you the language easily (hard to believe I know). I listened only to his beginning set and during a trip I was able to communicate and understand surprisingly well. My dh, who has used lots of different German tapes, etc. was very impressed.

I don't do unsupervised play dates either but I simply say this with a cheerful shrug, "I just always like to be there. That's what we do." For some reason, to my ears, saying what I won't do sounds more like it could offend than saying what I will do. You can then tell your background if anyone pushes you on the topic.

We used HWT for print but wanted a prettier cursive style. My ds and I chose SmithHand. The samples on the website don't do it justice. If you're interested in it, I would encourage you to ask for additional samples. My ds and I both love the lowercase f. The merchant is very good to work with and extremely ethical. (He didn't send me samples in what he considered to be a timely manner so he just sent me the whole curriculum gratis. He then refused my request to pay for the materials.) We do one letter per day and it only takes us a few minutes.
