  1. It's always been accurate for me. When I lived in Ontario I was 18 hours from an Amazon warehouse and still managed to get my stuff two days after shipping out.
  2. We had lots of free movie tickets so took all three kids (3, 5, 7) to see Frozen. Loved it. I don't understand the problem with the Maleficient trailer. The "scary part" was a single line spoken by the title character. My older two thought it looked interesting. If anything I figured people would more upset about the amount of violence in the Mickey Mouse bit.
  3. I don't know what it's like in the U.S, but I used to work in insurance here in Canada and I would never claim for anything that wasn't a huge loss (house burned down). Nobody has to insure your house, it's not required by the government and if you are constantly using it for little things they can and will drop your policy and others can and will refuse to insure you. I have insurance on my house because it's required for my mortgage and for peace of mind that if my house burns down, I won't be completely screwed.
  4. We do "Santa" in that he brings 1 joint present to the kids every year. My oldest figured it out when she was 5 and told her younger sister. Now they refer to me and dh as Mr. and Mrs.Claus. It's harmless fun but we never pushed it.
  5. So far I've made cherry and chocolate shortbread peanut butter dipped in chocolate greek butter cookies cardamom snaps oreo rum balls
  6. I'm broke now. It has been an epically awful year. My fingers are crossed that We can swing a visa increase so we can afford firewood. Somewhere a horrible ceo is sitting in his mansion on my $40,000 despite admitting that he owes it to us. We'll never see the money and he'll continue ripping people off. I'm not worried about school stuff. We're set for at least another year there. Fingers crossed that 2014 is better.
  7. Tortiere from Quebec. Persians from Thunder Bay
  8. I concur with the above. Either a cardigan or a shrug.
  9. My soon to be 8 year old is getting a chemistry set and we are putting together a spy/csi type kit as well. The spy kit contains binoculars, passport, id, notebook, fingerprinting kit, black light pen, fake moustaches and lots more. For the science side, we're including a bunch of related experiments (flame tests, dusting for print, etc) that I'm going to print out and laminate. Almost all the stuff for the spy kit came from the dollar store.
  10. I'm waiting for an appointment for a mammogram. The Er doc ruled out muscle pain and infection. He didn't feel any lumps but can't rule out ibc. The lymph nodes on the breast/armpit are aching more now.
  11. Make everything in stages. This year I made cranberry sauce one day, pies a couple days later and buns the night before. The day of, I spatchcocked a turkey which cooked in under 2 hours and came out absolutely perfect. Best turkey I've ever made. You can make sides ahead of time as well but mashed potatoes and stuffing are fairly easy. Ask for help if you need it.
  12. Thanks ladies. Cancer doesn't run in the family so there's that. I'm 33 so fairly young as well. It's just so hard to be optimistic right now.
  13. I'm not sure where else to ask this. I don't really want to discuss this with anyone in real life. I am going to the ER tonight to get a referall to a specialist but that's just going to give me more time to worry. Over the past month or so I've had a cold burning (like muslce pain cream) at the top of my left breast, into my armpit and left arm. It comes and goes. A couple of days ago the burning resumed with additional pain and tenderness around the spot that the lymph nodes are (breast/armpit area). This morning I was showering and noticed that that breast has become larger than the other. It wasn't last week. I'm not pregnant and my period ended last week. Google is freaking me out (inflammatory breast cancer). From what I can tell, I'm basically going to the doctor with the intent of ruling that out which apparently isn't a straight forward process. Has anyone had similar symptoms and had it not been cancer? Normally I'm the type to ignore health issues but it's been a bad year which has recently become better combined with it being my birthday today and historically this is prime time for something bad to happen. So I'm definitely jumping to worst case scenario here. Talk me down. Jen

  16. I had a neighbour call the police on me because My toilet lid was too noisy when I put it down. another neighbour use to throw people up and down the stairs every saturday night around 3am. The worst was the woman who had very noisy tea parties from about 10pm to 8 am every night. That was awful.
  17. I don't think you need to spend money to figure out what works for you. There's lots of sites and blogs that can help you figure out your body shape, your colouring and what works and what doesn't for those things. Pinning clothes you like can help you figure out what style you like and go from there. I recently redid my wardrobe on a budget and started by getting rid of everything I didn't feel good in and/or didn't fit. I made a list of what I had left. Then I made a list based on what I wanted and needed and limited those things to a few colours that all match (navy, black, grey, khaki, white). I buy according to my colouring, body shape and style. Past experiences show me that when I don't buy according to those rules I end up regretting it. I buy based on the biggest part of my body and take it too my inexpensive tailor to get it fitted. I have a third list of outfits that I can make out of things in my closet. I now have a closet full of clothes that I love and look great on me. I shop sales, (mainly online) and thrift the rest.
  18. By the bigger suit that suits your taste and get it tailored to fit.
  19. It looks like something that seems like a good idea at the time but will end up in the trash in a year.
  20. I never used to wear it regularly but recently started doing so. I've also started wearing nicer clothes around the house. I don't need a lot of makeup (even less in the summer). It takes under 5 minutes to apply and it makes me feel more polished.
