  2. -13 feels like -24. So much better than where we used to live.
  3. I'm rereading the HP series and am on Deathly Hallows. I haven't decided what to read next.
  4. I know I'm a little late to the game but I received an ipad for Christmas. What aps should I get? Anything specific for homeschooling? I have a 2, 4 and 7 year old.
  5. Mine will be staying up tonight, either playing with toys are watching netflix on the computers.
  6. The only non-white dolls I've ever seen in stores were Cabbage Patch dolls and there's usually only a handful amongst all the white ones. You can definitely find stuff online. I'm sure she won't mind getting a "just because" present after Christmas.
  7. :iagree: I had a really interesting convo with a lawyer friend of mine about some event she went to where one of the speakers was talking about the fundamental differences between Canadians and Americans. There was something about the types of people (class, culture etc) that settled in each country and the belief about what it means to be a "man". In the U.S it seems to be very much about relying on yourself and only yourself (the frontier issue that someone mentioned elsewhere) whereas Canadians tend towards putting the group above the individual. They also brought up the Civil War to highlight the differences but I can't remember the specifics of that. This may or not be off topic but she also went to a immigration law seminar and apparently Canadians have stronger interpersonal skills then any other country and that it's often an issue for immigrants entering the work force here. It's hard to articulate but there's a huge difference in attitude. I'm often am completely baffled by stuff I read in the American news. I just can't fantom how people can think the way they do there.
  8. After the kids have gone to bed Christmas Eve. Before we had kids, I used to make dh do it after I went to bed.
  9. I mean influenza but I assume others means stomach virus.
  10. Is it pornography if there's no visible sex or nudity? The Sims games are more graphic than GTA. It doesn't need social value to be entertaining. Mass Effect is about saving the universe from a bunch of aliens who periodically do an cleanup of all organic life. It's about sacrificing yourself to save everyone else. It's mostly story line, with a bit of non graphic third person shooter thrown in for good measure.
  11. I've been thinking a similar thought when people try and link Mass Effect to it. Have these people actually played Mass Effect? Even if it was Grand Theft Auto and actually played by the killer and not his innocent brother, I still wouldn't link it. Thanks to everyone who killed any attempt at seriousness in this thread. Please, more bacon, kilts and cupcakes. In that order. I don't like cupcakes.
  12. Lots of meat and carbs. Tourtierre, pheasant en croute, prime rib, yorkshire pudding, gravy, mashed potatoes, green salad with prosciutto, pears and avocado, trifle and christmas pudding with brandy hard sauce.
  13. I had everything was bought and wrapped in November. Hubby waited until the first week in December and was having trouble finding stuff. We both did 90% of our shopping online.
  14. We're 5 living in 1000 sq ft. There's another 1000 upstairs but it's not currently livable up there. When we eventually do and have all that space it'll be too much.
  15. That's probably your best bet. We do Santa as well but Santa only stuffs stockings and brings one joint present so he doesn't take requests. All the rest of the gifts are from dh and I.
  16. Get him the boots and let him exchange. With the Christmas return policy most stores have right now, you should be able to return them for a cash refund as long as the tags are still on.
  17. I bought Bones 7-9 for my 7 year old. For dh I bought Divergent and Insurgent. For the non-readers I bought a Scaredy Squirrel book and a Dora book.
  18. I'm joining but I'll ease the pressure on myself by aiming to read 52 books, not necessarily a book a week.
  19. Hubby is coming home for two weeks. He's been out of province for most of the past 3 months. We're all going crazy counting down the days.
  20. Our ancient civilizations teacher was awesome. She had spent a lot of time travelling to all the places we learned about and interacting with the local communities. The result was that her lessons weren't just dry recaps from history books.
  21. Seriously. And it's a blast.
  22. Yup although they generally aren't very graphic. That's why they are rated the way they are. IMO the PS3 and Xbox are really adult systems.

I go back and forth. I won't commit to being done surgically though so we'll see how I feel in a couple of years when the kids are older. Right now with 3, I feel like I got worse at parenting with each child and a fourth will land me in the psych ward. Sometimes I think I just really want to have a Sophie. Maybe I should get a dog so I can use the name.
