  1. I specifically asked about Shakespeare plays (not English lang. operas) since that is probably the equivalent translation issues to opera. I figured English operas were not translated since the reverse it true.
  2. I've wondered this for a long time... When/how was it decided that operas would only ever be sung in the original language? Book and plays we translate. Why don't they ever do Verdi in English or German? When Shakespeare is performed in Berlin or Rome - is it always done in English? Clearly I have too much time on my hands.
  3. This is helpful information too. Yes, we are looking at models in the early 2000s. We're not looking at anything older than that. Lucy Stoner - you say that maintenance isn't hard - which type are you talking about? I have changed head/tail lights and dh has done several batteries (those kids!), but that is the extent of our abilities.
  4. I think I missed last week's installment!! Last week was pretty busy and stressful and I completely forgot. I didn't do anything with my baby blanket last week. It just sat there half way on the loom for a whole week. Last night I finally had some time and I finished tying it onto the loom. I hope to start weaving tonight. So how is everyone doing?? Halloween is behind us but Thanksgiving/Christmas will be upon us before we know it!
  5. thanks so much for everyone's opinions. I looked for Sienna's in our price range but haven't seen any. So, I guess they're just out there in my area... lots of Odyssey's and GC. Never even heard of the VW Routan - will definitely look that one up. We're going for something between 2000-2006 - high milegage but definitely under 200K. It's the extra family car that we need when we either go on family trips or college kids are home, but won't get used everyday. Mandy - you said you don't trust your van. I totally understand. That is exactly how we feel about our passenger van now. It's been a part of our family for 17 years but it's day has come.
  6. Thanks but I've been to Edmunds, several times over the last few days. They have no review information available on the 2000 Grand Caravan I was looking at...so no help. Mainly it seems that most people unhappy with the GC complain about bad transmissions.
  7. Sienna's are out of our price range. I think they must be too new still. Thanks though
  8. We're looking to replace our 1996 - 12 passenger van (215K miles) with a older model minivan. Most of them have over 100K but that varies. I've been looking for several weeks and now I'm starting to do more research. The problem is that there are so many variables! Some people hate certain models and other's love them...who to believe!!?? I was set for a Dodge Grand Caravan (2001) but then read some reviews where it was panned. Chrysler's Town & County's look lovely, but their pricey - and they also seem to be a bit unreliable - so why are the resale values so high??!! So, the three I'm looking at are the Honda Odyssey, Grand Caravan, and Town & Country. Should I stay away from the Grand Caravan and Dodge/Chrysler altogether and only look for the Honda's?
  9. I'm sorry you had to have the tube inserted - I know people who've had that done. :grouphug: But I'm so glad you're getting the medical help you need. Hang in there.
  10. I'm sorry. praying you feel better real soon.
  11. yes, they are high where I live. We've been looking for a used car of one kind of another for the past several months. I was distressed in my search today. A Subaru Outback with 160K+ was going for $8K - really?? for 160K miles??? A Hyundai Santa Fe with 176K miles is asking $9K.
  12. Yes,... but it never used to bother me either. Same with whistling. I never noticed it before, but now it's like nails on a chalkboard. My dh whistles under his breath (like a whisper whistle) and it drives me batty. I wonder if it has something to do with getting older. Stuff that didn't used to bother me now grates on me.
  13. I want to get a pair of lined crocs. I love my reg. crocs so I think I'd love the lined ones too. I bought a pair of Birks.. I love Birks too. Anything that is form fitting.. but i bought a new pair recently and wore them all day on Friday, standing at our church bazaar. My feet hurt SO Badly by the end of the day. Today I wore my crocs and they feel so much better.
  14. I can't see it either. But it sounds like a fun how to raise kids.
  15. Like Rough Collie, I consider reading a way of life - like eating. My hobbies: weaving, singing, and soap making.
  16. I agree. What little I know about VF, it's not a company I would wish to assoc. with, but I do respect him for taking responsibility for his actions and stepping down.
  17. one thing that I found that worked on humidifiers is running it with vinegar water for one whole cycle. I think it was about 1/4 cup to a full tank - run it OUTSIDE!! for the day... I was amazed at how well it got all the gunk off. I think my dr recommended doing it once a month.
  18. oh no! I'm so sorry about the fall. It's never a good time for one of those! How great that you made a to-do list. I would probably just slunk down and sit on the computer all day feeling bad for myself.
