  1. I agree... when I've been particularly overwhelmed and can't get ahold of myself, some sleep really does make it seem better in the morning. I also will 2nd Rescue remedy. My college daughter takes it when she is overwhelmed and on the verge of a panic attack and she says it helps.
  2. I use Xanthum gum to thicken my soups. It usually only takes about 1/2 a tsp or maybe more to thicken. Add it directly to the hot soup (no need to make a roux) and wisk it. Give it a few min. for it to thicken up before adding more if you need it. I like the garbanzo bean flour idea. I'm definitely looking for that one.
  3. Hello everyone... We're at Week 12 already! Halloween is right around the corner and then before we know it it will be Christmas! I'm not ready. I spent yesterday sewing satin trimming on two blankets. The first one is more a mini-blanket for my grandson. It's one he can hold and gum (he's teething). The pink is for our soon-to-be-born grand-niece and is larger - about 32"x40" I'm hoping to mail it off tomorrow. I also finally, finally!!! pulled off those three scarves I've been working on. The variegated one is for my new daughter-in-law. The other two are for dd's friends. Now I need to warp for another three (dd has 5 friends she asked me to weave for!). I agreed to do this back in Feb or March, so only have myself to blame for all this procrastinating.
  4. I've been in two book clubs and felt that same way. The only reason why I kept either one going is because I wanted to see the ladies in the book club.. It was the only time I got to see them. Now, I see none from my first book club and only 1 person from the 2nd one I joined. I just don't like *having* to read other people's book choices. Kinda like being in school again. Our parish started a book club about a year ago, everyone keeps asking me to come, but nope - I just have no interest. Plus, I've found that group discussion of a book is usually inane. Sorry, I guess that makes me a book snob.
  5. This reminds me of a stat I heard about 20 yrs ago. Apparently at that time more American homes had TVs (hence - electricity) than had indoor plumbing. So yeah, I guess it does happen. To the OP - I agree with Parrothead. We're these new doctor's young?
  6. What beeswax projects? I'm wondering because I have a bunch of beeswax votive candles that don't stay lit. I'm thinking of melting them and redoing them differently (these are the bigger votives, not the tea-light types). I'll have a lot of beeswax. Anyway, I've never done anything with beeswax before.
  7. The ornaments are adorable. Mommymilkies - I can't wait to see the River Song outfit. She is one of my favorite DW semi-companions.
  8. yes, that works. Or if you have a Flickr (and probably Picassa) account you can do it from there. You still have to reduce the size (I usually do one of the medium choices) and copy and paste the url here.
  9. praying for you Joanne. So sorry this is developing. I'm glad they're on top of it though.
  10. oh dear. I'm glad you got some. Hoping for safe travels. I had really bad insomnia earlier this week - of course when I also had a long drive to do AND an all day class to take at the end of the drive. Ugh. The drive back home was a little tough towards the end, but I made it through and hopefully you will too. :grouphug:
  11. Last night it would not load.. Kept hanging. When it finally did come up I couldn't open any emails. I think it finally said there was a problem with gmail, but it was late so I turned the computer off and went to bed. This morning it will not load. Anyone else having issues? No one in my family had trouble last night - so we wondered if it was the computer. All the other sites are loading normally for me.
  12. I went through a bad batch earlier this week but last night was okay. still up but was able to fall back asleep quickly. However, I rarely go online when I have insomnia anyway. I don't like the bright lights in my face.
  13. the support you have sounds wonderful. praying for continued healing for you.
  14. I think if you do a search you'll find several good websites. The soapmaking forum that I linked to above may also have some tips. I've never made soap from scratch in the crock, but I have rebatched some old bits and pieces along with a batch that had too much lye. It smelled wonderful but came out looking greenish with bits and flecks of other colors. We dubbed it the "barf soap".
  15. that's too bad about the bassinet Melissa. I hope you can share the photos of the crocheted gift card holders.... I think that's cool.
  16. So glad for the update and they found the guy who hit you. Prayers for a speedy recovery.
  17. There's probably too many to list. I generally do not like popular main-stream movies, but the first that comes to mind is "Titanic" I had no desire to see it in the theater and still no desire today.
  18. I liked all those movies, but Departures.... just couldn't get into it for some reason. I tried more than once. I almost put Muriel's Wedding on my list, but it was already getting too long.
  19. Seen all those except "Miss Pettigrew..." and loved them all. Enchanted April is my go-to movie during the winter blues. I love that movie "it's a big tub o' love!" Here's my additions: Always Ostrov Oliver's Travels - not a movie but a BBC mini series - such a sweet and witty love story The Cave and the Yellow Dog Story of the Weeping Camel The Secret of Roan Inish Memento Adventures of Priscilla Queen of the Desert Secrets and Lies Jean de Florette & Manon of the Spring (2 movies, but they're connected) Shower (Xizao) The Intouchables (thanks to someone's suggestion here) Truly, Madly, Deeply - love Alan Rickman playing that cello. okay, better stop.
  20. LOL - seriously. Noro is such a lovely yarn. Enjoy your find, Bug'smom.
  21. This. all of it. Our current church doesn't have an online option, but we could send our checks automatically via online banking. I still don't want to do it that way either for this same reason. I never pay attention to who is putting money in the plate and I assume others at church are the same way. Our youngest has just started tithing and what you say about kids is so important.
