  1. are you also using the spelling cards? I found that we had to use all the materials in the program, the minute I stopped or didn't use something his retention fell behind that week. I found the constant repetition laid out in the teacher's manual really helped.
  2. Does your town have many other homeschoolers or a homeschool group, I find a lot of military installations have some homeschoolers around. I think finding people who are seasoned (even if they are a year in) can be such a help.
  3. One thing that helped my dc is this old toy that leapfrog used to make called Turbo Twist Math. I know it isn't as fancy as an app but it was perfect when we were in the car. I found ours at a thrift store.
  4. Yes you were able to do that, it was very handy when you were working out of a specific book and did not want to search. Depending on the book, you could not search it by its number.
  5. I don't have a link but someone wrote some nice lesson plans to go along with BFSU1. It is one someone's blog. Maybe someone has the link?
  6. you would need to go in an assign the quizzes and tests, but the online lesson and labs do not have to be assigned.
  7. are you using the suggested lesson plans to assign?
  8. We finished our first day today too. Feels great to be back in the thick of things.
  9. If you scroll up to PlumCrazy's post above there is a suggested sequence the publisher suggests for each module. We did a test run this summer with the science technology module and found at minimum we had to do science more than 2 days a week to actual retain information.
  10. I have been using this program since the last time the coop offered it. My son loves the program. We are using the middle school science. He prefers having his lessons from the book and then doing everything else online. I will say if you go the textbook route and you are used to doing science 2x per week. You might want to rethink how you do science. In my opinion if you are planning on doing 3-4 modules/year it might be very overwhelming using the textbook 2x/week.
  11. Other series my ds enjoyed when he was first learning to read was the Bones mystery books by David A Alder Break Out At the Bug Lab by Ruth Horowitz Surprise in the Bug Tank by Ruth Horowitz
  12. Actually the poster was asking what style MiF was mastery or spiral. Ellen, MiF is mastery but has built in review at the beginning of each chapter. (I hope I got that right)
  13. Another suggestion is contacting your local 4H office, they have a lot of home ec/life skill curriculum available for purchase.
  14. The book I have breaks it down month by month grade by grade. The pdf just has guidelines per grade. The book is Core Knowledge K-8 Guide: A Model Monthly Topic Organizer, CK no longer prints it since they now have the Teacher Daily Planner.
  15. I use the sequence with my kids, a book that is is out of print but follows the sequence is Core Knowledge sequence k-8, it breaks down the sequence in to month increments grade by grade. It has been perfect for my inner planner to implement and find resources.
  16. I think this may apply to the question asked in this thread.
  17. I have used this off and on over the years. I love them and would love to see an updated version.
  18. Our books arrived a day before our start date.
  19. Just wanted to throw out here that singaporemath.com is reporting that they are coming out with a Discovering Mathematics Common Core Standards Series for both 7th and 8th grade. http://www.singaporemath.com/Secondary_math_s/22.htm
  20. This next year I will be using Science Through the Year for Grad 1. If I had found it for K I would have used the Pre-K- K version this last school year. It reminds me of the setup of Nancy Larson science, without the price tag. It also comes in e-book format. But I agree with everyone. The best program is the one that gets done with everyone in one (happy) piece on the other side.
  21. I looked in the singaporemath forum but I do not see a mention of it. I'm wondering if this means there will be support material for homeschoolers. This was where we were heading in the winter, I hope she posts more information soon.
  22. Did anyone else know they were coming out with a standards edition? Or am I just late with this information?
  23. 1. Singapore for both kids. 2. Saxon Phonics for my K kid. 3. Checklists 4. Jump In for my gr 5 kid. A great gentle introduction to all forms of writing.
