  1. Well I called and found my answer. Apparently in the months both pdfs have been up no one has noticed the inconsistency. According the the customer service rep, the FAQ is correct. :( So if he wants to participate he would have to get his GED. I don't know how I should feel about that as I've always read getting a GED is a bad idea.
  2. Thanks for doing the leg work on this one. I am one of those parents who has built her own thing year to year, and I've come to a point where I want to let up a little so, I think I am leaning toward Kolbe. Life is too short to have to create the wheel. I just want a wheel that rolls that I can add some bling too.
  3. The second link, according to the teacher's syllabus is for regular bio. For the first link (McCarter) I believe it is regular bio too.
  4. For The Beginnings of Civilization in Easter Asia what about The Bhagavad Gita?, in one of the GC courses there is a lecture on it and it might fit into your plans.
  5. You will be my new hero if you find something. I have been looking for a few weeks now and I've onoly managed to find very, very bare bone syllabi that make Kolbe's syllabus attractive for ease of use.
  6. I love these threads. Is anyone integrating literature in their global choices? I think I have an idea of what we are doing with history but I need more literature choices to investigate.
  7. I was reading through the NCAA website and noticed something that has me slightly confused : Under the FAQ (opens PDF) for homeschoolers it says the following: then further down the page under What documents are required? But under the Homeschool Information link it only mentions New York and NOT Hawaii: The FAQ is dated 8/1/14 and the Information sheet is dated 9/22/14. Does anyone know which one is correct (we are in HI, so it makes a huge difference).
  8. What about something like Dictation Day by Day (or Modern Speller which is the same book with a smidge more)? It is a vintage book, but you might be able to pull sentences from there.
  9. :grouphug: Don't put so much pressure on yourself. I understand the feeling of not wanting to give up and just hoping that something anything will work. Here is the link to prodigy: https://www.prodigygame.com/USA/ I haven't used LoF personally, but I know it has been a welcomed relief for many. Or maybe something like CLE? As for his writing, have you considered going back to basics? Do you think you will have a major revolt on your hands? Or what about focusing on something like drawing? Also, some kids do great in a school setting. Doesn't make you a failure or the teacher better, just that some kids do better in different environments.
  10. I'm sorry it isn't getting a little better. Start with what is working. I know you are not comparing your ds and dd but it sounds like you have two very different learners on your hands and at times it is throwing you for a loop. Been there and done that. It sounds like he does well with online material i.e. Dragonbox and TimezAttack. Have you tried adding in something like the online Math Prodigy. Or if it is still in your comfort level what about something like Life of Fred. A little out of the box but might be up his alley. Maybe it is a case that neither BA or Singapore is the right fit for him. Why do you think Singapore stopped working? As for his writing, do you mean you can read his math problems or his overall writing is bad? Can you maybe rewind a little and give him shorter writing assignments in hopes it takes a little pressure off? I know it is was probably hyperbole, but when you realized it was taking that long to complete the page in math, why didn't you stop? Again, I'm sorry you are frustrated it is not a great feeling to have.
  11. I attempted time4learning when we were moving and thought something online while we shipped our books would be a great fit. Neither the kids or I could understand the layout. I also thought it there would be more interaction at the younger grades (more videos/text being read to the child), but I found it was more click and I had to read. Not what I was expecting.
  12. I'm strangely excited about this since we are reading this later this year too, and I this is my least favorite play.
  13. I don't know if it is general knowledge, but as of this week I don't think the link to the Hewitt videos at http://www.dsusd.k12.ca.us/users/phealy/physics/Ebook/vid/chap8/rotational_speed.html works anymore :( Anyone else having a problem? I had scheduled them in and I'm really bummed. Just wanted to let other knows just in case. ETA: I did however find this link w3.shorecrest.org/~Lisa_Peck/Physics/syllabus/syllabus08.htm the only catch is depending on the browser you are using it will download on your computer instead of just playing in the browser.
  14. Thanks for the links, I had found them previously but was hoping someone had more insight on what lessons they picked for what year. Thinking about it, you could probably (like most things) tailor it to the student and go from there.
  15. If you are a HTTS user (how to teach spelling) and you opted out of using the student workbooks, how did you decide which topics to cover each year for your student?
  16. This is one of the reasons in piqued my interest. But I cannot find anyone who has used this series. Looking through all the grade levels it reminds me a lot of CTGE which we started using last year. I guess I will just give it a try a report back in a few months.
  17. I was about to add R&S Spelling to my cart but then I noticed Practical Spelling in the sidebar. Does anyone have any experience with this series?
  18. I love these threads too, am I the only one who looks at what people do end up using to get ideas?
