  1. Here is a great thread that has a lot of excellent resources: http://www.welltrainedmind.com/forums/showthread.php?t=45173
  2. I've heard Teaching Physics with Toys suggested a lot.
  3. I finally gave up and started to piece together my own based suggestions of posters I really like. It would have been nice to find a program that had the balance (hands on and lots of books) I was looking for.
  4. Our core curriculum is independent, once a week we go to enrichment classes (book club, lego league).
  5. I file under Option 1 and I do not submit a curriculum plan. I send the same letter year after year that sounds something like this Short sweet and to the point. Every year they send my receipt and I go on my merry way.
  6. Can I add myself too. I mostly just babble. It is in my sig.
  7. Hijack :tongue_smilie: For next year (I will have a fourth grader): I'm thinking about simplifying and going back to what worked last year. This is what I was going to do: Hake 5 Classical Writing – Aesop B Sequential Spelling Online WordlyWise.com Daily Penmanship (Evan Moor) Daily Language Review (Evan Moor) I'm thinking about doing: Online WordlyWise.com (it is free) Sequential Spelling (it works well) Progressive Composition Lessons Book 1 (beginning at year 4) Sheldon's Advanced Language Lessons Dictation Day by Day- Fourth Year (I believe this would cover the penmanship and language review) Does that look like enough considering where I was planning on going originally? I should add that currently we are using Rod & Staff 3 and in the past we were using Sheldon's.
  8. The Letter Factory Math Circus Talking Words Factory Talking Words Factory 2- Code Word Caper There are others but I found these 4 to have the best retention with my kids.
  9. Nope, I do not give tests or quizzes. We constantly talking about things are always reviewing old materials when new ones are introduced. I'm thinking when they are older I'll reevaluate, but right now he has not shown a need for me to give quizzes.
  10. Is the person just trying to avoid wetness? If so, I don't think there is anything that person can do without antiperspirant. Well there is (botox or surgery) but that is in extreme cases where antiperspirant does not work. I would also avoid caffeine, garlic, onions and alcohol since they can sometimes stimulate sweating.
  11. There are a few threads floating around, these three may be of use: Netflix Master SOTW Guide Netflix list for Middle Ages/Medieval needed Netflix recommendations for Middle Ages
  12. Actually, there are 5 episodes plus the 2 hour finale. So about 7 more hours left minus all the annoying commercials.
  13. I find it very enlightening to read recaps at lostpedia to help with little things I might have missed. I also noticed Eloise's brooches being the bursts of light (like 2 universes). And all the little hints like the driver being the man from the boat who didn't survive time traveling.
  14. Do you know the specific episodes you are looking for? I have can check for you instead of you downloading something you do not need. We are doing 4th grade physics as well next year.
  15. Hopefully this works: http://itunes.apple.com/WebObjects/MZStore.woa/wa/viewTVSeason?id=347344391&s=143441
  16. Itunes has about 40 episodes for $1.99 each. I hope that means affordable dvd sets will come soon.
  17. I think it is more about knowing where your food comes from, what is in your food and making the right healthy choices. No matter what anyone does with their life, their will always someone who will say "you're not doing it right". Everything in moderation.
  18. I did this with my youngest. He started to watch when he was 2 and he could just say the sounds of the letters, then after a few months he was saying letter sound and the name.
  19. Shhhhhhh.....I dare not tell him. It will make the wait until release even longer for him. I didn't even tell him about it. He went to the Percy Jackson site, which lead him to the Red Pyramid site. He even has it circled on his calendar . It is coming just in time because he is done reading all the Warriors book and we ran out of 39 Clues audiobooks.
  20. My son has been stalking this book whenever he gets a chance to get online or go to the library.
  21. With what Jamie is trying to do specifically in the schools, can it really continue with all the budget cuts that are happening after production ends and everyone goes on with their lives?
  22. I've been following Jamie for years. His old site (before the overhaul) had a 101 section. The closest I can find in the section is this: http://www.jamieoliver.com/jamies-ministry-of-food/ I have been using it with my 9 year with a lot of great success.
