  1. I like a Life Application Bible Study Bible. You can find these in many different translations (NKJV, NIV, NLT, ESV, etc.). Also, if you want to compare the readability of the different versions, I highly recommend the website www.biblegateway.com. You can read the Bible in any translation and compare.
  2. Totally unrelated to Harlem Shake or Gangnam Style, but completely on topic with Call Me Maybe - Call Me Maybe Mashed up with NIN's Head Like a Hole lyrics Somewhere Trent Reznor is trying not to gag. Unsuccessfully.
  3. Aren't we thankful that if someone would like to spend their time "getting" the Harlem Shake they can? And likewise, those of us who would rather pull out our eyelashes can do that instead? I don't get it. I don't care to get it. I'm not old, nor am I pregnant. I just don't see a redeeming quality there. :confused1: Having said that, for those who like it :thumbup1: to you.
  4. :iagree: :iagree: :iagree: :iagree: :iagree: :iagree: :iagree:
  5. :grouphug: :grouphug: :grouphug: Let it all out, girl. I'm sorry, and I know it stinks. Thank you, JB and MiHH for your sacrifice.
  6. I have a daughter like this. Regardless of the discussion prior to sign-ups, there is always a time in the season that she's ready to quit. It is our rule that if you sign up to play, you're in for the season. This applies not only to sports, but extracurriculars in general. If it's a monthly activity, like gymnastics, then we fulfill our time that we've paid for and move on. When you (general) sign up for a team sport, other people are counting on you. It's for this reason, that I also do not take practices/games away from a child as a means of discipline. Not only that, but children need to understand what it means to keep your word / commitment. Because this is something we've experienced before, I typically do not spend much in the way of equipment. We buy used when at all possible, and if we can't buy used, we go the inexpensive route. If the following season, she is still interested in the sport (activity, etc.), then I'd consider nicer equipment.
  7. You can also check Brentwood for hotels as it's between Franklin & Nashville. Lots of fun places to eat in Franklin, and really their downtown is precious! Love the shops. I can give you a list of several places in Franklin for restaurants, if interested. OpryMills is just ehh, imo, but I haven't been since they reopened after the flood. Opryland is a hit, for sure. Grand Ole Opry is in the same area. Downtownish - Broadway & 2nd Ave for Nashville Music Scene type places (Tootsie's & Robert's Western World, Wildhorse Saloon, Country Music Hall of Fame - which is on 5th I think). Oh, Frist Museum is also on Broadway. Ryman Auditorium (old opry house), Oh, and Music Row, you must drive up & down these two streets. Well, if you like music. :) Very cool to see the different record label buildings and the recording studios that are in all the cute little houses. Belmont Mansion is pretty & offers a nice tour.
  8. You are not alone. I also do not get involved unless needed, but imo, you did the right thing stepping in. In this situation, it was needed. You were not out of line speaking to the child, and imo, you were not out of line in how you handled the dad. If my child were the one calling names & harassing another child, I would definitely want to know.
  9. Finished #14 - The Neighbors by Ania Ahlborn. This book was bizarre. I wanted to read till the end, because I needed to know what happened, but strange. Started #15 - Gifted Hands by Ben Carson. I've been looking forward to reading this inspirational story of the first doctor to successfully separate cojoined twins. The determination of Dr.Carson, and also that of his mother... just amazing. Enjoying the read so far.
  10. I have no words. My heart breaks for those who love Kay. If anyone hears of what we can do (cards, scholarship fund for her ds, anything), please let us know.
  11. :grouphug: :grouphug: I'm very sorry to hear about your kitty. :crying:
  12. :iagree: This is me, although I usually only get up to 3 books in one week if I'm on vacation. I'd love to take advantage of audiobooks, but I have yet to be able to do that.
  13. I finished: #12 Barefoot Season by Susan Mallery - This book was okay. I wanted to finish it, and to find out what happened with the characters, but I don't know that I'd read further in the series. #13 I Beat the Odds by Michael Oher - I've been wanting to read this book for over a year. I truly loved the movie The Blind Side, which was based on Michael Oher's life. I enjoyed reading the difference in how the movie portrayed his story, and what actually occurred in his life. In a Heartbeat by the Touhys is also on my TBR list. I'm not 100% sure what's next for me. I have Gifted Hands by Dr. Ben Carson, Fairy Tales from the Brothers Grimm by Philip Pullman, and The Neighbors by Ania Ahlborn to choose from.
  14. Thanks, again. I need to remember my original plan - not to panic. :) I asked dh when he got home from drill yesterday if he'd heard anything, but so far - nada.
  15. I'd need to see a link stating this. I've not heard anything about homeschool students following CC.
  16. I had not seen that. Thanks for the link. I didn't especially like the "could be eligible" and the "slightly reduced" quotes.
  17. This isn't something new. We pulled our dd (now 6th grade) after 1st grade because this is exactly what we saw happening. Her K teacher even said to us that, "Maybe she just needs to slow down and let the rest of the kids catch up." This was a TOP school in our state. We purchased our home because of this district/school.
  18. Sign me up for the freak out camp. My husband has put his entire life (minus a few years in the middle) into the military. He's just a few years short of 20. If he isn't able to retire, there goes our healthcare. That is a HUGE deal.
  19. :grouphug: There aren't words that will ease your hurt, but I pray that you will feel comforted not only by your family & friends, but by those here who care. I am just so sorry.
  20. We haven't gotten official word yet, praying for all those who will be affected. And it will be far more than just government employees. I'm trying not to let myself panic. Panic won't do any good. Right?
  21. :grouphug: :grouphug: I'm so thankful your girls are okay. Reading your heart brought tears to my eyes. I hope they catch that coward!
  22. When my old Maytag bit the dust last year I did a lot of research, including reading through all the washer threads on this forum. :) We ended up purchasing a Speed Queen and have been very pleased. I didn't want a washing machine with LED anything, nothing digital, etc. I wanted the old school dials and buttons. LOVE my washer. We still have our Maytag dryer. It's 13 years old and has been great.
