  1. Feeling whiny because I have a cold and have to go to work. Some pity would be nice. And if you could do the dishes, that'd be even nicer.

  2. It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas... Rainbow Resource Christmas catalog is here!

  3. I'm a little over a month pregnant. More details in November.

  4. Someone please cheer me on - I'm in the thick of finalizing writing up high school course descriptions, textbooks lists, and "letter from the educator about the curriculum you followed." My brain is fried!

Make sure you add in some chocolate & a beverage of your choice. If the weather supports, take a walk. If not, a shower. Writing gets fuzzy when your brain is fried.

  5. I wish we had run with Derek Owens for math earlier in Sailor Dude's high school career.

  6. Is it me or does Rainbow Resource Take FOREVER to ship?????? Ugh!

Rainbow usually ships within two days for me. Sometimes, it arrives before I've even started to look for it, although I'm spoiled by Amazon Prime.

  7. It's official: at 5' 8 1/2", my 12 year old is taller than me. How did this happen?????

Obviously, it happened overnight and by MAGIC. [My eldest is within an inch of me, but I think she's done growing. DD#2 might overtake her sister & me if she keeps growing at this pace.]

  8. I have begun taking stock of all my books in an effort to decide what I should sell and it really hurts me to take the next step.

  10. Lost a baby squirrel and for some reason I feel horrible like I lost my precious cat boyboy. It was found us and was only with us a few days but for some reason it hurts bad.

  11. Can't post. Can someone contact admin, pls? (Unless you are saying, "Good.")

  12. I have discovered the secret to getting a teenage boy up and moving. These simple words: "A hot breakfast will be on the table in 15 minutes" have reduced his morning routine to 13 minutes flat. Hallelujah! I'm happy to scramble a few eggs for that kind of result.

  13. We lost my mom November 3rd, Dad followed January 1st. Bbl.

  14. make that a double. Yes, it's been that kind of day.....

  15. My son got into a college! I guess this homeschooling thing works after all...

  16. Planned a get togther, cleaned the house, made some cookies, and I don't think anyone is going to come. Discouraging!

Oh no! Hate it when that happens. We'd come if we lived close enough. We'd bring the fudge we made this afternoon, too.

  17. I love when announcements like this come over the "intercom": It's officially a Sun Day at Olive Street School (our homeschool name). Kids and teachers are not required to attend classes today due to the beautiful weather. The principal has learned that an arctic air mass is heading into the area tomorrow, so warm, sunny days will be but a distant memory for the next two weeks. Get outside, take some good books to read out loud, and go play. Classes will officially resume tomorrow.

Artic air already here, so it was easy to get to work & not be distracted by the gorgeous weather. Hope you enjoyed your day off!

  18. My beautiful, wonderful girl is 12 today. I can hardly believe it. My life is so enriched by her presence. I love you Shannon!

Congrats, Shannon! It seemed she just turned 11 the other day!

  19. Being the mother of a 13 yo girl who knows WAY more than I do and is going to be so much a better mother than I am is exhausting. She's lucky I didn't whip her with a belt like my mother did when I challenged her authority!

  20. So the doctor called in a bottle of antibiotic that cost $170 for Grace. Yeah, that's not happening. Not sure what to do now. Can I call the doctor's office tomorrow and say, "Apparently you read the last name on her chart wrong. It's not Walton, Hilton, Trump, or Gates. We need poor folk antibiotics."

Had this happen for eye drops ($115 for a tiny bottle). Pharmacy called doc's office back & questioned on whether some much cheaper generics would work instead. We ended up not getting any of them, but the pharmacy went to bat for us. You can absolutely call & ask for a generic (cheaper) alternative.

  21. After three months of work, we finally finished the chapter on fractions in Grace's math book. She struggled so much with understanding and manipulating fractions. She made a 76% on the test. She was upset; I was like, "Thank God, we're done with fractions!!!"

  22. It's only 9:30 am and I already need a nap...

  23. Sad. Our very old cat took a sudden turn for the worse and die en route to the vet. Making a paw cast now ;-(
