  1. Dragons in the flower bed, We are doing the same thing with the same plans. I am scared but in a good and bad way. There is so much and since I am not a math person, I can't figure out what to do when. I really really like that she puts things for the adults as well as the kids. Well so much for my thought on tweaking someone else's lesson plans on this one. I will head back to my lesson plans and books.... Thanks
  2. I really like it, but it doesn't come with any sort of lesson plans. For those who use this, can you tell me how and what you are doing? I think this might help me figure out my own plan. I am using the primary version. TIA
  3. Have you looked into Five in a Row? www.fiarhq.com I think you could do use the same book with all of your children. For the one that reads at a higher level you could provide some go-alongs. They have a Christian suppliment to go along with their books. There is also a website that has free FIAR style lesson plans. www.homeschoolshare.com HTH
  4. I have been thinking about this also....I will be keeping my eye on this thread!
  5. I did the first 3 or 4 of the Green Hour Challenge's then I got side tracked. I would like to offer it as a fall co-op class for 5yo and up. Since I didn't get very far, I would love other people's thoughts and suggestions on how I could accomplish this. Is there a way to do it without having to do stuff outside of the class? TIA
  6. My ds6 is good at math, but he always gives me a hard time about doing it. This is the only subject where we get into arguments about doing it, and often times crying. He was enjoying the programs until a month ago. Maybe a fun math day would do the trick?
  7. Wow those look great! I has got me thinking about what I would like to do this year! Thanks for the pics :001_smile:
  8. I will play....hmmm harder than I thought 1. I am a good co-op teacher 2. I am good a making any recipe that has potatoes in it :D
  9. I use ETC (with TG) as our only phonics program. I tried OPGTR, but my son didn't like it at all. When we did the primers he would do 4-6 pages per day. He is now in book 3, and it has leveled off to about 2 pages per day. I am really happy with the results of using just ETC, and some early reader books. IMO ETC with the TG is a full program.
  10. We do history 3 days a week. I read one section the first class, review questions, and map work. I read the last section while my dc color the coloring page, review questions, and we look over the map again. The last class we finish anything undone, sometimes we review, and sometimes we use that time to read a go-along book. I read a post online here about someone having a book basket. She said she put books in there for a couple of chapters before and a couple after the chapter she is currently on. That way if there is not much on one chapter or the kids really liked a chapter they just did, they could read about them. This really helped me out b/c I don't feel so pressured to get the go-alongs the week we are acutally doing the chapter. I usually request books from the library two weeks in advance, since some could take awhile to come in. HTH
  11. Did anyone get the extra paper for the K series? Is it needed or used? What about the block paper is that used for K? Sorry I find the website confusing!
  12. I use ETC more for the phonics aspect, and not for handwriting. We use something different for handwriting, so he is not required to write anything in ETC. His handwriting is not that advanced, and it frustrates him when I did make him. I do ask him to spell words while I write them in certain places. I think it helps him b/c he watches me while I write, and I will remind him how the letters are formed. HTH
  13. United is open 24hrs a day in reservations. Here is the number 800-241-6522. The person that rebooked your flights just found the first thing available, not something reasonable. Since so many flight have been cancelled recently they are just putting the first thing they see. I would also do some online research, and let them know exactly what you want. You never have to take what they offer you if you don't like it. Make them find a better flight for you. They made the change not you. When my flight was cancelled recently, I called my travel agent, and she told me that there was a flight in 1hr that I could get on to make it home. Since the person at the gate disappeared after she said our flight was cancelled, I went out of security, and up to the counter agents. She was able to rebook me,and get my luggage switched over to the new flight. I ran back down to security, and to the gate with time to spare. As I passed my original gate, all of the same people were standing there still waiting for someone from the airline to come and help them. If I had done that I would not have gotten home that night. Sorry it was so long! Airlines make me mad at some of the things they pull.
  14. Two by me already closed, but there are 3 more really close. I found a wonderful local coffee shop that makes better coffee(didn't think that was possible), and it is cheaper. I have been trying hard to support my local community, and I think 8 Starbucks in our area is a bit much!
  15. Thank you for sharing all of your hard work with us! You have made our lives easier!
  16. My ds has the same issue. I am not sure how old your son is, but I have looked at this as an alternate option http://www.homeschooljourney.com/index.html HTH
  17. She can always check the library or a homeschooling lending library in her area.
  18. I have this same problem, and I have been thinking of ways to resolve it. I tried Kumon books, but she is done with all of the ones on her level. I have looked at other books, but I can't find anything like Kumon books. She does participate a little in my ds6 school. She listens to the FIAR book (I print a coloring page for her while we are doing FIAR activities). While my ds does ETC workbook, I go over some of her homemade flashcards with her(she loves it a lot more than I thought she would). Then we sing a song, read a poem, and her book all relating to her letter of the week. Then it is off for the letter of the week snack. After snack we do SOTW, and she usually does the coloring page. As you can tell she loves to color! Then she is off to play or do puzzles. I tell her she can stay in the classroom if she is quite. If not she can go to the next room to play. If she plays we do math, science, and handwriting. If not we do it during nap time. I have tried to be consistant with this schedule and it seems to work most days. My ds likes it b/c he doesn't miss out on the fun stuff like songs, read alouds, and snack time. My dd likes it b/c she has school stuff just like her brother. HTH :)
  19. This was a long read-aloud for our house, but my ds6 loved it. Egyptian diary : the journal of Nakh Platt, Richard I thought this book was cool but didn't fit into the age group at our house The 5,000-year-old puzzle : solving a mystery of ancient Egypt Logan, Claudia This was a big hit in our house as are all Magic School Bus books Ms. Frizzle's adventures : Ancient Egypt Cole, Joanna We really liked this story. It is a story from Ancient Egypt times. The shipwrecked sailor : an Egyptian tale with hieroglyphs Bower, Tamara. We checked out a lot more but these were the ones that came to mind. HTH
  20. I schedule school for 5 days a week. We have an on-going playdate everyweek, and co-op classes. During these days if the kids are worn out I move school to Sat. If we are still not done we do school on Sun. This keeps the work load of the other days easier to manage, we get to have our "fun" days, and stay on schedule.
  21. My ds6 spends hours on our chess board thinking about the plays and moving pieces. I found Lego Chess but I didn't like it that much. I am intrested in Fritz and Chesster software. When I looked it up it says it is for 8 and older. Would it be something he is able to do on his own. Assuming he is a normal 6yo boy? Thanks
  22. My library does this also. It took me awhile to realize that I can only find them in my library by titles. HTH
  23. I think I have seen posts for this before, but I can't find them now. I am intrested in finding something that would teach the Bible as literature for kids. Is there such a thing on the market? Thanks
  24. I missed the first post....sounds like something I would be very intrested in! Can someone post the link again? Thanks
