  1. Diluted - watered down - definitely with a T sound. Deluded - having a mistaken idea - that's the semi-homonym pronounced with the "D" sound.
  2. Pound cake, you could make some different varieties. Quiche, it's already been mentioned.
  3. I don't know if someone already said this, didn't read all the replies, but I'd be taking out that cabinet. It can be done.
  4. Oh, what painful memories from 7th grade.... I *loved* those guys!
  5. Well, it did kick off with the Bay City Rollers, can we call that fairly warned?
  6. Oh, I had to go and click the link. Now I really NEED a chip maker!
  7. Oh, I have to go look at that. I have a strange fascination for Christopher Walken. He and that book sound like a loaded combination!
  8. DD does not have O-S, but did have knee issues involving weak muscles that would allow the kneecap to slide when strained. Her favorite support is actually a PROPERLY APPLIED bit of sports taped. She worked with a PT for several months and he showed her the right way to do it. She does have a knee brace (the velcro kind with a window at the kneecap), which she wears when she feels tired but doesn't feel the need to tape. If she knows she's going to be hard at it (soccer), she goes ahead and tapes.
  9. Well, the first banning is usually for a short duration, the next one longer.... so there's some grace before one is permanently banned, I think. Also, some of those folks are really evil, and some of them just like to mock the hive. So I trust the moderators do their best to give someone the benefit of the doubt before a ban. One current thread I am thinking you're talking about was closed this morning. If there are others, I'm sorta clueless... But that thread starter I'm talking about pops in and pokes around a couple times a year, some of us recognize her. And as for boring.... well, now that Nance has the numbers to prove she's officially pregnant, that's the end of following the megathreads for now (for me, anyway).
  10. Time for the official..... CONGRATULATIONS!!!! :D:D:D:D:D Now, I give you the same advice I give to every newly pregnant woman on the boards: no more vacuuming. From this day forth, someone else officially gets that chore. Really, Nance, I am happy to hear your wonderful news. Now relax!
  11. I responded with more info on your s/o thread. Hope you feel better soon.
  12. Ha. This has been a particularly busy spring. DH and I have been joking about "Flop on the Couch Day," coming soon to our house (we hope, and look forward to it!). Your ideas sound great.:D
  13. Years ago (old boards) a poster here shared a file box/index card system for fact review, used mainly for scripture memory. IIRC, there was a set of cards tabbed 1-31, a set of cards tabbed Monday through Friday, and a set tabbed with each month of the year. A card would move from slot to slot, eventually being reviewed just once a month, know what I mean? We used it for a while, when mine were elementary ages, but they quickly tired of it. I guess you're speaking of an electronic version of something similar. Honestly, imo and generally speaking, education is more about training in critical thinking and how to process thoughts in a logical fashion than about cramming a brain full of facts. So a review method would be helpful in the grammar stage, and while studying vocabulary-intense subjects, but I wouldn't strive to drill in "tens of thousands of facts of the sort most of us forget after a while." Unless maybe you've won that slot on Jeopardy...
  14. Not really sure I'd specifically choose any of your poll options. Mostly, I view education as comprehensive and foster/facilitate discussions that cut across disciplines. When my kids were younger, we lived in a state that required portfolios to demonstrate student proficiency. My kids loved looking through books from previous years, I'm sure that triggered some memories.
  15. From my recent experience (two root canals about 2 weeks ago), it's not so bad after the root canal is completed. For me, the real pain was during the time leading up to it, while the nerve was dying. Sheesh, I'd rather go through childbirth all over again! Anyway, before the pain was shooting, sharp and deep. Waking me up in the middle of the night and all that. Afterwards, it was a different type of pain, more achy, like after a workout, kwim? A little bruising from my mouth and face being handled and blocked open for the procedure. But *much* more manageable than before the procedure. I was told to take ibuprofen round the clock for the next 5 days, but really I felt better after 3. I was also told I could call the office if I needed something stronger, but I didn't. I had the crowns put on a few days ago, and now I am feeling it again but nowhere near to the extent I did before the root canal. The endodontist warned me that it could take several weeks, even 2 months, for the sensitivity in the newly crowned teeth to full go away. It's not pain, but a sensitivity to heavy-duty chewing.
  16. Okay, I was here earlier as I waited for my dd to be done with laundry. I just sat down long enough for my soup to cool. But yikes! I have too much to do to be here today! See you gals later.... Hope you all have a great, productive day!
  17. My mom, a professional seamstress, always said that most people forget to oil their machines, then wonder why they act up. A tune up is a great idea. On a side note, when I was a kid I had a parakeet that lived in a cage in the room adjoining my mother's sewing room. It was one of those parakeets that actually parroted words and sounds. When it started humming, it took a while to figure out that it was repeating the sound of the seeing machine!
  18. I really appreciate your insight here! I have not had the opportunity to interact with an adult on the spectrum and I would not have been able to distinguish/interpret this behavior pattern. Thanks for the challenge to stretch my compassion.
  19. Wow, you must feel so unburdened, I can only begin to imagine! This is great news. I hope your father continues with a complete change of heart. It is amazing how some of the worst critics can becomes the biggest supporters after they are able to observe quality fruit. May the Lord bless your home school efforts and restore all of your joy!
  20. The right thing is not always the most palatable thing. Remudamom, you are doing the right thing. If these dogs are bold enough to go after a pony, what's to stop them from going after a child some day? Maybe just you and your gun. I love dogs, too, but big dogs gone bad are very dangerous.
  21. A new life is always to be celebrated! Congratulations! FWIW, I am a bit jealous. There are lots of new babies at my church, and grammas my age. I'm too old to have another myself, and my kids have a few years before they're of age. Guess I need to sign up for nursery duty.
  22. There's a part of me that thinks this woman is drama-seeking, and she set out a smorgasbord designed to engage you in some kind of debate. Congratulations on not picking up that gauntlet. Seriously, I just can't imagine any other explanation.
  23. Ugh, what an unnecessary hassle! Does the therapist have documentation of the event from the time it actually happened? Maybe s/he would write a letter on your behalf regarding the timing of the original incident. Also, attach a written statement from dd about what transpired during the conversation and how her comments may have been misinterpreted. If you proactively submit this (or have it ready to submit at a moment's notice), maybe you can burst that CPS bubble before it expands. :grouphug:
  24. Thanks, Heather. This excellent, easy to read article sums up what I've been taught on this topic (from a Bible-church background). Candid, I also agree with your observation that sometimes we "major on the minor" issues and forget to live out the most basic tenets of our Christian faith. Thanks for the reminder. :grouphug:
