  1. Thanks for your description! SWB's history notebook as detailed in WTM is much more than a file cabinet.
  2. 85% is my cut-off. With the "try again" option on many questions, there's no excuse for my son to make below 85%. First I figure out why he missed so many problems - careless errors usually, but if there is a learning issue, I reteach of course. Carelessness and/or attitude means I go in and delete the entire lesson and have him redo it.
  3. RWJ, would you mind giving an overview of your modifications? What does work for you? The big notebook isn't working for us either.
  4. We are doing Foundations this year and have enjoyed it very much. Next year, DS will do Essentials which *I* think will be even better for him. Our community doesn't charge a facility fee nor require us to buy much. The MUST HAVES: tin whistle, either the guide (book $60) OR the app ($15 per cycle). Each child needs a whistle. The guide is used by the parent only. I like the timeline cards because we can read more about the events that interest us, but they are not absolutely necessary. Once you are in the community, you can sign up for CCConnected and use their file sharing section to download all the music and visual aids your heart desires. It's $6 a month, but you can download everything in one month and then let it lapse. The CC store has lots of lovely and useful stuff, but you don't have to buy it all. I'd suggest getting into the classes before buying all the pretties. CC has been a real plus in our homeschool this year, but I only have one child. Having two in the program would be expensive. Best wishes on your decision.
  5. Hurry and get well - we have to plan a celebration party!
  6. DS is doing Cycle 1 of Foundations this year at age 11. He could benefit from another year there, but we will move up to Essentials due to financial constraints. (We can afford to either Foundations or Essentials but not both; I feel Essentials will do more for him.) As for Latin, we are trying to learn the declensions as they come up, but I'm not putting a lot of emphasis on Latin during our regular school days. We have too much on our plate to take up Latin too (LDs).
  7. I'm so sorry. When the time comes, you will feel immense relief - followed immediately by intense guilt. It is horrible and tragic and awful. The best advice I can give you is to say what you want to say now, while he can understand you, and hold his hand in silence, absorbing the time together. (((hugs)))
  8. I got both December baskets (my first) and enjoyed the fresh produce very much. Grocery store quality out here in the desert is ... um, not really fresh. Today is our order day, but I'll be out of town on Saturday, so no basket this time. I will be ordering again in two weeks though. (Our farmer's market is July-Sept, so that's a huge chunk of the year without an alternative to the stores, which I've hated from the day I moved here.)
  9. I don't suppose you have a similar Middle Ages list? If you've shared it here at WTM, I can search for it.
  10. I never use my Foundations Guide anymore (I have the old edition, not the new one - the only difference is the timeline is not listed). Tin Whistle used from week 7-12 I use the new Cycle One app every day. It was expensive, but I love having all the material in one place like that. We also use our Classical Acts and Facts cards every day to read up on the timeline events. I will second the idea of getting the CC Connected subscription a couple times a year and downloading everything at once. In fact, that is what I am doing this month. The songs are worth every penny. My favorite online resource is the Half-a-Hundred Acre Wood blog.
  11. I'll be in San Antonio next week and would like to hit a homeschool curriculum store, if such a thing exists there. I've heard *rumors* of these elusive places (in other areas of the country) but have never been in one myself. Any sightings would be appreciated! We are staying near the airport, but I can usually convince DH to drive pretty much anywhere as long as we can get an address. Thanks!
  12. Kalanamak, I love that. Thanks for sharing. Holly, hugs on this day and those to come.
  13. It's sold out everywhere that I've looked. Let me know if you want to sell. Thanks!
