  1. I think this may be the case with science... If I were you, I would do MP Junior Kindergarten...I am getting ready to do MP K with my son who is already 6...It would have been too much for him last year and I don't think he would have gotten as much out of it... I agree with a PP who said it is better for older K students...Even if the writing (which is a lot) is okay, the discussion and memorization may be over her head... That being said, I like MP...I would just start with Junior K if I had a 4 or 5 year old...
  2. Lost Tools of Writing is a writing program, while Art of an Argument is a logic program...LTOW is writing instruction... Here is a video clip of Andrew Kern doing the first lesson from LTOW that may help you get a better idea of it...
  3. Thanks 8 :001_smile:...My ds is also a slow reader and if he continues to be a slow reader, I will have to get this audio when we get to this book... I am also kind of a slow reader (and slow at everything else in general ;))...I can comprehend things pretty well, it just takes me a while to read it :tongue_smilie:
  4. I'm not looking forward to "The Divine Comedy"...I haven't read it, just not excited about it...I'm sure there are others, just can't think of them now...
  5. I bought my globe at Barnes and Noble...It was about $30 when I bought it (about two years ago)...
  6. I would complete Grammar Town totally before doing any of the sentences in Practice Town...Grammar Town should be completed before starting Practice Town according to MCT...Practice Town assumes you have learned all the grammar presented in Grammar Town...
  7. :iagree: We start cursive here in K or first grade...We are using Memoria Press New American Cursive...I personally learned a slightly different way when I was younger and prefer the way I learned, but MP's is fine and I find it easier to teach it...I also have the StartWrite program that allows me to type up anything (including my own copywork) in the New American Cursive font...I got it for about $30 at Rainbow Resource...
  8. My son used Spelling Workout independently and I would recommend it...His spelling has improved greatly over last year...The only reason we are not using it this upcoming year is we are switching to Memoria Press and they use Rod & Staff...He feels confident enough to switch now... Some don't like Spelling Workout, but it worked great for us...
  9. That is funny...Now you get to homeschool and do what you like from Highland's Latin :001_smile: Are you doing K and 2nd grade?...If all goes well I will plan to go to next year's conference as well...It is a 7 hour drive for me though :tongue_smilie:
  10. Wow, you can drive and pick up your materials!...Did you go to the conference?...I wanted to go but couldn't make that trip this year...Maybe next year ;)
  11. I am planning to do most of the literature guide stuff orally...
  12. Me! :D I was going to go back a year and do the grade 1 package, but my son really wants to do the 2nd grade package...DH also thinks it would be good for him...I will just have to give him extra help since we are moving into MP for the first time... We are planning to use it as written...I am also using MP Kindergarten and 6th grade packages...I just have to figure out how to schedule 3 different grade levels :svengo:
  13. I don't think my son has read 300+ books in his life!
  14. I never put a limit in the past (I printed year 1 of TOG last year, all of it including some pages from the Loom), but that being said.. :iagree: I don't put a limit on printing because of price (I buy ink very cheaply)...I limit because I just discovered after reading TOG the entire year from huge binders that I don't like to read from 3-ring binders...I don't mind spiral bound books, just not binders...I don't have an e-reader and prefer books over everything else... So my answer - I would print it and have it spiral bound (as long as you don't have to pay a small fortune for ink) ;)
  15. I appreciate your feedback Medieval Mom...Does anyone else have a similar view? Also, I wondered what things you found that are prioritized that are just not worth it...
  16. :bigear: I love this thread topic and hope many people will reply... If I knew for sure my intuition was telling me something about a curriculum choice, I would listen...My problem is, when choosing curricula, I never know if it is my intuition talking or my fears, or just my desire to try something I recently became really drawn to...It is difficult to sort through all of my feelings and get to my gut...
  17. Now that's the best thing I've read all day :001_smile:
  18. Writing... I don't remember having a difficult time learning to write, so it makes it difficult for me to understand all of the steps that are necessary to teach writing...I take a lot of it for granted...
  19. I am also planning to do the Classical Studies portion and the Christian Studies orally...My boys love to write in workbooks, so they may choose to write out some things before our discussions...But with other workbooks to write in, they may get their "fill" of filling out workbooks and just skip the workbook part altogether :001_smile:
  20. The Cheryl Swopes book - I am waiting for this as well...I so wish I was going to their conference tomorrow and could hear the class she is doing, along with the others...I am going to plan to go next year, and I will be sad Wed - Fri this week knowing the conference is going on without me
  21. :iagree: We are doing three packages as well this upcoming year...
  22. I haven't used it yet but I am planning to use it when my middle and younger sons get to the 3rd grade package of MP...
  23. Highlands Latin School is definitely full time school...It would most definitely overtake your plans...There would be no need to homeschool if you sent your child there...There is an extra hour and a half on the school days making an extra 6 hours a week, so it is like another 6 hour day... The Cottage School would also overtake your plans...You would most likely spend the days you are not there teaching and going over stuff learned there...I think that is fine if you are on board with the curriculum they use, would be a problem if you are not... I personally would love a one day a week class using Memoria Press :D
