  1. :iagree:We do something very similar, only our wake up time is 7:30...They can play in their rooms before that time but cannot come downstairs, roam around, or come to knock on my door...Unless you are ill, that is the deal...
  2. There is a blog called "Barefoot Meandering" that has made a schedule for all 4 years of SOTW broken down into 36 weeks... Here are the links...They are PDF files that you can print and use to plan and are the most useful things I have seen to help plan SOTW...Hope this helps... Year 1 Year 2 Year 3 Year 4
  3. I have used it this year with my K, first, and 5th graders...It seems simple to me and I liked it very much at first, but my boys are really having a hard time with it...Especially my first grader...I just don't think he is ready for the algebraic setup the program has...He can do the math, but has a hard time understanding the instructions and the early algebra...I have the CD and will still use it in the future for some practice problems if I need them, but we are switching to Rod & Staff math...
  4. Thanks Suzanne...Take that break, I most definitely would if I were you...But since I am me, I will keep going :tongue_smilie:
  5. I would get the answer key...Unless you feel confident that you know all of the answers, I wouldn't want to be without a teacher's key for something like that...You would also have to look up any vocabulary you don't know, which could be time consuming...Now, if you have no intention of using the student text and will make up your own study guidelines, then you don't need it...But if you are using their student study guide, I would get the answer key... Can you save by buying it used instead?...Do you already have the Greek Myths book itself?
  6. Thanks so much for your reply Alicia!...What I quoted above is how I am really feeling right now as well...I think a plan is the best thing for all of us right now...My oldest son is doing Geography I and Famous Men of Rome right now and for the next 6 weeks...It is going fine so far, but he does find the questions in FMOR to be challenging...We are also going to read "The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe" and do the literature guide to get a feel for how it goes before the fall... My rising 2nd grader is doing the first New American Cursive now...He was taught cursive already, but he is reviewing and practicing the letters now so he will be ready for New American Cursive II in the fall... I have been checking out the MP forum and the Highlands Latin School high school curriculum to get a sense of where the program is headed...Tanya is also GREAT at answering questions and being generally helpful...MP has the best customer service I have ever seen...
  7. I am planning to use them as is...I am only adding Elemental Science Earth Science for the Logic Stage for my oldest son because he has been following ES and wanted to do the next one...He loves ES so much that he would do it in addition to any other work I give him...Because of that, I may or may not have him work through MP science...My younger two will follow MP as written...
  8. Twice Freed is on our list to read...I hear it is a good one...
  9. We are giving them a try :)... My going on 6 year old will most likely do the K...I was debating getting him the 1st grade package, but he has not learned to read yet, so the K readers and phonics pack will probably serve him better... My will be 8 year old is going to do the 2nd grade package, and my will be 12 year old is going to do the 5th grade package as his 6th grade school year, so he is a year behind their schedule...I will add Elemental Science for him because he really enjoyed that...Everything else we will just do as written... I don't have the lesson plans yet, but I am anxious to see them...I have a couple things on the way, so I shall see...I really hope this works out for us in the long run...
  10. Looking at the two sections I took from your post above, I would just stop...If you don't want to miss the end of SOTW, I would just listen to the rest of it on CD or only read it leisurely if you only have the book version...That is what I would say judging from what you wrote above... Now, I know myself...I also feel like stopping now, but I also haven't finished what I wanted to finish...I am choosing to keep going because I tend to take breaks whenever the going gets tough, and that is something I am working on in my character - being more disciplined and able to push through hard times without giving up...So for me, it would be a huge accomplishment for me to just keep going... Not everyone is in my situation, so my advice is this - If you are not the type to take many breaks or go too easy on yourself, then you should probably take the break you need...If you *always* stop the moment you feel like it and it equals many breaks throughout the year, you should probably just finish up... You sound like you pretty much finish up things, but because I don't know, I just wanted to let you know what I was thinking :)
  11. Thanks, that's not too far from me so I will have to check it out :)
  12. I would just rinse them, let them dry, then freeze them in a freezer bag...You can use them in smoothies, I do it all the time... BTW, where did you go to pick?...I live in Jersey too :001_smile:
  13. Our budget is about $1500 a year...Curriculum costs me around $1000 dollars and the extra $500 is used throughout the year on stuff...So I spend about $1000 up front (either from taxes or DH's bonus), and then budget around $40 per month for any extra things I might need...Last year I didn't buy curricula up front and bought throughout the year, and I ended up needing about $150 a month, so I went over last year by a couple hundred...I will make sure I buy up front this year and stick to my plan...Changing your mind is expensive :tongue_smilie: My children will be 6, 8, and 12 by Fall...We pay a fee to belong to a co-op, but other than that we do no outside classes, lessons, or tutors at this point...We would have to increase our budget to do that and we can't at this point...
  14. Thanks for the update, Capt...Are you going to Conn.?
  15. Here is one...If you go to this page on the site, she has all 4 SOTW volumes planned out...
  16. That Hippo Books has over 14,000 pages of books, many of them are priced at $500 :001_huh:
  17. Wow...I haven't read the Famous men series (I have the Greenleaf Rome book but I haven't read it yet) so I am not sure how they depict war...Is it heavily glorified? Thanks for weighing in...I always respect and appreciate your views on things ;)
  18. I am not sure if we are going to use TOG or not...I have many of the books already that I would need for year 2, so I keep thinking about it...But then I keep thinking about MP too... The workbook thing is my fear as well...If I do use it, I would like to use it more discussion style...I haven't seen the workbooks honestly, so I am not sure about that part... We would actually miss SOTW too...We used TOG this year, but we had SOTW as a supplement and ended up using it to the point where we could have just bought that alone :)...At least for my younger two...My oldest enjoyed the books he read from TOG... I guess the real deal is that I am torn between planning everything myself and having a plan already laid out that I can tweak if I choose to...I did an awful lot of planning this past year and don't want to burn out...
  19. The one thing I know I would have to add is Elemental Science for my oldest...We have really been enjoying that, and he has been looking forward to "Earth Science and Astronomy for the Logic Stage"...I wouldn't let him miss that :)
  20. I am really wanting to talk about it :)...Do you use it?...Do you like it?...Just say whatever you want to say about it :tongue_smilie: I am strongly considering a year plan package next year, actually a few year plan packages!
  21. They memorized the vowel rhyme only, not the consonant one...
