  1. Thank you everyone! We are printing more and more for HS, and my son is taking an interest in graphics. We also are going to start printing more photos and cards, since we are moving into that area of business, but I wanted some opinions on what other people were using too. I definitely want something that can handle all of it, and that won't cost me an arm and a leg for ink or toner, but at the same time, since we will use it for business, I can also write it off. ;) That will help. Thanks everyone!
  2. :lurk5: I know that I am sort of new around here... but I am really friendly! LOL
  3. :) I think that if it is how you feel, then say it. Blessings, Friend. ;)
  4. Hi all. We are in the market for a new printer, and given the direction things are going within the household, we should probably look for something that has the capability to handle a fair amount of printing, can print on cardstock, and can handle some nice graphics. Anyone have any good suggestions? What do you have, and what are your pros and cons? Thanks! I always like to hear how other people like what they are using!
  5. I feel the same way. My heart aches for some reason when I hear it, I cannot explain the offense that I take to it. We do not use it in our home, nor do others who come into our home. Sabbath day... my husband works in sales, and they really had a hard time with his wanting Sunday's off. My guess is they do not see that much anymore, but that is our day for church, rest and family. They deal. :)
  6. Wrapped up in blankets, or even made up in the bed! LOL It is also known to land in couch and chair cushions and shoved way back on the kitchen counter.
  7. Awwe. Happy for you! Cannot wait for pics, we love beagles! Of course, I love them all... which is why I cannot go to shelters, because I want to bring them all home. :)
  8. Fun, fun! I love box days... my kiddo not so much. LOL
  9. I know, right? I saw this on FOX earlier today and could not believe it either. I cannot believe some people.
  10. So glad to have found this post! We have done nature study, the human body and a history of science, but no formal science course yet. I am excited to try the BFSU. Thanks for the info. :)
  11. I am really sorry this happened, but glad you are okay! Stick to your guns and make sure that they have to answer for their actions... hopefully they will learn something.
  12. Oh my goodness! We had his happen at our last home, right before we moved. There was a new little guy that moved into the neighborhood and he did the same thing... ringringringringring... and then he would come back about every 5 minutes. It was really frustrating! I kept having to explain to him that the doorbell only needs to ring once for us to hear it, and if we are there or can get to the door we will answer. I also had to start giving him a time when my son could play... such as he cannot play outside today or he can play in two hours after his chores are done. He still never fully got it, but it did gradually get better. Oh goodness, I am so glad that we moved! I feel for you. :)
  13. :grouphug: There is sometimes a breaking point, and it sounds like you reached yours. I understand your frustration, and pray everything works out for all of you. Having been in a similar situation in the past, I know how hard this is, especially when your kids are watching. Just know that in the end, as long as you are taking care of yourself and your kids, she is an adult that needs to take responsibility for her own actions. Hope it gets better...
  14. I see it here too... I'm afraid it is just the times we are living in.
  15. So glad that you asked this question. We had a routine when we first started, and now, 4 years later, it has fallen by the wayside. This has motivated me for next year! Thanks everyone. :)
  16. :001_huh: You def have to try and watch it online if you can. It was a good one!
  17. I have a one page list for my son that lists things he is to accomplish each day. The next section lists his weekly chores. The last section lists things he is to do when they come up, such as yard work, etc. I put it in a plastic sheet and it hangs on his bedroom wall so that he can see it each morning. It has worked well for us.
  18. Just an FYI... it may be different where you are. My cousin did something like this with her kids in Colorado, but the main drawbacks were that they still had to use the chosen curriculum of the school and move at the same pace as the class. She also found out from the HSLDA that they could not defend her should anything happen since technically it was placing them on the rolls of the public school system.
  19. I think that it matters. Character is one of the greatest things that I can try to teach my son. That being said, we are all human, and I only know of one perfect man who has walked the face of this earth. I make mistakes. Others make mistakes. Each situation is personal and different. I like to think that I make good decisions, but when I make a bad one, I pray it is not held against me forever... and since in my own personal life I have Jesus, it won't be, at least where it matters most. As for a politician, sometimes they slip. If it is a one time thing and there are no other signs, I might be tempted to give them the benefit of the doubt and vote, depending upon the severity of the action. Now, if there was a pattern established of this type of behavior, without a doubt and without question, I would not vote them in nor vote to keep them in. Once that is done, my part in it is over and they need to get back to their own problems...and me back to mine. :)
  20. I totally agree that character matters. I don't think she was saying that it didn't, I just think that she was saying that in this instance, this is a very personal situation within a family. It is just heartbreaking that the kids have to see all of it played out, and that we feel so intrigued by all of it. As for the fact that he is making public policy, that is a different story. He is no longer in office, which is why is was probably kept quiet for so long. He will hopefully remain out of public office at this point... but these days, there are so many politicians that talk out of both sides of their mouths that it is easy to spot their character even without scandal like this. One just needs to do diligent research. Oy. Getting off my soap box now. :tongue_smilie:
  21. I hear this a lot too! It is sad, but I have to remember that these parents probably have not experienced some of the joys that we have with our kids, and are maybe geared toward different kinds of things. There are sometimes the comments make me really upset, but I try and remember that we are all built so uniquely. A agree with you though... for me, I am so blessed to be home with him and, while there are times that I need a break, as well all do, I would not trade being a hs mom for anything. I love being here for all of it! :001_smile:
