  1. I love this program, too! All my children use it.
  2. I thought that it had an internal filter...? I don't have my iPod touch, right now or I would check. I'm pretty sure that there are apps that you can use for a filter, then you can use parental controls to turn off Safari, and only allow that app to surf the web.
  3. I know how you feel... It's 12:45 am here... the NEXT day, and I didn't have any chocolate today. :glare: Maybe I should turn back the clocks.... lol
  4. I dislike creepy crawlies of any type, so I make DH spray some 6-9 month bug stuff around our house. There are types that you can spray on the outside or inside. I spray the basement and around the doors on the inside, then spray the outside of the house. It works nice, IMO I think I was bitten by a spider recently so I will make DH spray again. I don't remember when the last time he sprayed was.
  5. My niece used to walk into the room, look at everyone and say "What?" with a look on her face (the lying look, you know what I mean?) Then, we would know SOMETHING happened.. LOL Now, with my kids, it's usually something like: "You have to call the DOCTOR, MOM!" I run, clutching on to my chest and they are surrounding another DD, and look at me and say: "We're pretending. I'm mom, and she just got hurt... for fake." They do that a lot.
  6. Is it the same as the Aldi's store? Here Aldi's is a cheap/generic store
  7. Yes, I do sometimes. When I want a laugh. What people say on there absolutely amazes me. These are people who live NEAR ME?!?! A while ago, someone close to me was assaulted. She is a minor, so her name was not published. Her EX step mother had commented on the news report talking about her mental issues... This woman used her own REAL name to post. We had to flag that comment to get it off. Even funnier... The people who 'correct' other posts for grammar or spelling mistakes... lol
  8. Thank you for the replies! I knew that the History and "do togethers" would be ok. Basically, I am trying to make sure that they stay at a level to where if they go to a public school, that they would NOT be "behind". Math, writing, reading, spelling etc are skills that MUST be at grade level. Science, history and stuff like that... As long as they start at the beginning of the grading period, they will be fine. I have switched schools mid year. Sciences and social studies were different, but I did ok. The Algebra was the exact same book, but I was 200 pages BEHIND in the school I was at. So, I didn't exactly "catch up". As I go along, I'll probably have more questions. Thanks everyone!
  9. hahah that's what I get when I don't read the whole thing! I had that feeling of "oh crap" when I started reading, and I was NOT going to read the whole darn thing if it was not going to work! lol Thanks for the reassurance! :)
  10. Horizons did well for my youngest. All are using Horizons, but my youngest was the only one that started in K. It starts out really simple (but not TOO simple!) and ends up adding double digits. Then 1st starts out with adding single digits, with memory, and moves up. This uses the spiral method. There is a bit of repitition, but some kids need it to reinforce what they learned before.
  11. I was going to say paper towel holders, too! Painted, wrapped in paper... It sounds like fun!!
  12. They bug me and say "I'm done!" "Mom, what do I do?" etc... lol I have a "Seasonal" workbook that I print out pages for them to do every week. The ones that have no WORDS or NUMBERS are to be used when I am reading aloud. The others (crosswords, puzzles etc) can be used when they are 'patiently' waiting. :) If all else fails, I make them do math or handwriting :)
  13. I have 3 girls, ages 9 (4th), 8 (2nd) and 6 (1st). The oldest was in ps for k and 1, the youngest 2 were not in public school at all. We used Calvert and then Sonlight (Core 1). I wanted to review my homeschooling choices and picked up a copy of WTM at the library and it is making me wonder if I am doing the right thing! According to WTM they would all be learning about different time periods. I don't want to break it up any more than it is! They are all learning about the same history, Bible, science.. etc. I like it like that. I also understand that it is not ALL that important to follow that schedule. But... What my 4th grader should be doing as regards to grammar and all... I don't believe we can just jump right in! Has anyone else had a late start with TWTM method and how was it done?
  14. I know that they have recently had problems with their instant streaming. Go to their website and you might find a link to click to get a discount on your next month's service.
  15. Make your own caramel! It is SO worth it! As long as you have the time and patience for candy making!! Really great to dip apples in, too! Butter, sugar, heavy cream.... yum!
  16. Lifepacs are student directed. They are made by the same company as Horizons. I am looking at the Lifepacs, now since my kids want to just get up and at them, but I don't want to stray from Horizons.
  17. I would eat it. Chances are that the temp was not TOO low... You also cooked it for a long time at a high heat. Let us know!! :)
  18. Here is one negative story for you, although not TOO negative :) I had a mirena iud put in after my 3rd was born. I had bleeding and spotting for almost 2 months, but the Dr said that was normal. I still had a period every month, even though I was nursing! I had regular flows while nursing my other kids, too, so that was no surprise to me. I had hoped that mirena would stop it. :( My flow was a bit lighter, though! I had some times where I would have pain in my uterus or cervix and I was convinced that it had perforated, but.... it didn't. lol We did have the string cut once since DH could feel it. There were times where I couldn't feel the string (you are supposed to check it once a month) but, nothing bad came of that. When I had it taken out, I bled for a LONG time. Huge clots and going through pads in an hour, etc... The Dr said that it was just my body getting used to not having the hormones. I started taking seasonale BCPs and the bleeding stopped. Those pills are the only thing that has stopped my periods! At least for 3 months at a time! I love them. It's too bad you can't take BCPs. They do make a Seasonale lo or Seasonique lo version, maybe you could look into that. I chose NOT to have another Mirena put in because we did not know if we wanted another one or not, and we were on a different insurance plan and it would have been more expensive. I also did not really want it in my body for another 5 years. I am ready to be OFF of hormones, but not ready to be a new mom :)
  19. I Can Read Lite See Read Say AritmeTick MathFlash2 Spell Down Times Tables Free Math Master Pocket Phonic Pop Math I haven't looked too much, since I don't allow them to play MY iPod much :) These are mostly free, but if I find more I will post them. But my kids are younger so this may not apply to you!!
  20. Yes, and no... :) I was hoping to find a "plan" all ready for me to use that uses what the kids should know. The library that has TWTM was closed today, so I went to a different one and picked up some books that are "What your xx grader should know" and those are mainly workbooks... I was hoping for a more detailed listing of what they should know. But, if someone has already come out with a plan for it, then great. I should add, that I thought TWTM was just a book teaching how a classical education is good, and what literature to use. I didn't know it also had the other stuff like grammar, science etc. That is good to know. I also checked out "100 Top Picks for Homeschool Curriculum" and that is a good resource! It has a score sheet to decide what type of homeschooling is good for you. For ME, it is Unit Study, Classical Education, and Charlotte Mason. It also helps determine you child's learning style and what is good for that specific style. I guess I was also trying to make sure I don't overdo it. If there is something that teaches grammar, phonics and vocab, I wouldn't ALSO buy another resource that teaches phonics and spelling... etc. Thanks everyone for the help!! The links have been very helpful!!
