  1. Geometry and Chemistry -- both of which my oldest is taking this year, so I get a daily reminder of just how hard they were (and continue to be!) for me. Fun stuff.:glare:
  2. Wow -- that's fantastic! Great job, Son (and great job, Mom!)!:)
  3. I'm glad to know I'm not the only one. (Makes me wonder how many more of us there are! Enough to start a support group, maybe?):001_smile: (I repped you, by the way. We dreamers need to stick together!):D
  4. Last night, I dreamed that I was browsing here and discovered a new button to click. I clicked it and found myself on a page with some surveys that I could answer -- and I could earn from 10 - 80 rep points for each survey I answered. There weren't a whole lot to choose from, but by the time I was done, I had gone from 3 to 5 squares. Do I need a life, or do I need a life?:001_huh: (Yes, I do understand rep's true purpose, and I do realize that such a system would completely defeat that purpose. Dreams are weird.) I'm embarrassed to post this new evidence which indicates that I am apparently obsessed with rep, but my 'more' button on my smilies isn't working, so I can't look for an appropriate blushing icon! (At the same time, I've just got to post it here -- because nobody I know IRL would ever appreciate it!);)
  5. I'm out right now, but I will as soon as I can!:001_smile:
  6. We're done. After complications ranging from placental abruptions (2) to neural tube defects (also 2 -- one very minor, one very major), my OB got in our faces about how dangerous it would be to try again. Dh has had a vasectomy -- something neither of us wanted, but both of us knew was necessary.
  7. I had just dropped my older two kids off at school (this was before we started homeschooling, obviously) and was back home, nursing my newborn and watching the episode of "Little House on the Prairie" where the blind school burns down. The baby finished eating and a commercial came on -- I put the baby in her crib and got online. I went to a forum I frequented, and one of the ladies had just posted to turn on the TV, because news of the attack had just broken -- not 2 minutes from when I had just turned it off.
  8. We started today, too. The kids named him King Cluck. If we unzip the bag, it already smells. Not sure what it will be like when we have to open it tomorrow! Pictures are up on my blog, if you want to take a look at the process (it's private, though -- you'll have to PM me with your e-mail address so I can give you permission).
  9. I absolutely cannot stand fall and winter! I love spring and summer and the long, hot days. I really think I have a (mild) case of SAD. I find fall and winter to be very depressing times of year. It's so cold and so dark and so dreary -- I think the only value in them at all is the holidays. There's nothing sadder to me than the sight of a tree without any leaves on it. So -- I think I'm the lone ranger here -- I'm definitely a spring and summer person!:001_smile:
  10. Jenn in Mo -- pecan is my favorite.;) (I can't rep you right now, but I will as soon as I can!)
  11. You know, I had completely forgotten -- but when I was 14 or so, I tried on a black dress in a store (my mother was with me). She commented that I wasn't really old enough to wear black yet, but that it fit and looked nice on me. (It was a perfectly appropriate dress, style-wise, cut-wise, and all other wise.) She did allow me to buy it, and I wore it for a couple of years. My girls wear black, by the way. Like I said, I had completely forgotten about my mother's comment. When I read your post, it came back as clearly as if it had happened yesterday!
  12. *anj*, I'm trying to help you -- but it won't let me right now!
  13. We bought one last year, just a small 16 foot, 4 feet deep pool from Sam's Club. It paid for itself before the summer was out. Both this year and last year, my kids have practically lived in it. Last winter, we debated whether we should take it down or just winterize it and throw a cover over it. We opted for the latter -- $40 for a good winter cover, $40 for the winterizer, and we were done. When spring rolled around, we just pulled the cover off, added some chemicals, and were ready to go. It couldn't have been any easier. At first, we tried to handle the chemicals on our own, and we had no idea if we were getting things right or not. Then someone told us that, if we made a one-time purchase from the local pool supply store, then they would read our samples for free and would let us know what the pool needed. As it turns out, their muriatic acid was cheaper than anyone else's -- so dh takes a sample in every few weeks and they read it, and since we buy muriatic acid there a couple of times a year ($5.95/gallon), they don't charge us for the reading. Like you, we had pre-buyer's remorse. It took us two summers to getting around to doing it -- but now, I'm glad we did. It has been well worth the money. (Sorry -- I was supposed to talk you out of it. Did I help?);)
  14. Well, considering that I was whistling "El Paso" when I clicked on this, I'd have to say it's not an issue around our house. We all do it. We whistle and hum and sing constantly. Nobody's very good at it, but that doesn't stop us.;) I know I'm at least a third generation constant-whistler/hummer/singer, and I wouldn't be surprised if it goes back much further than that.
  15. apparently I am quite fond of repeating myself today. Triple post (and they've been deleted in backwards order -- I'm sorry for the confusion!)!
  16. Well, I don't like to drink white milk, but I really like it with chocolate syrup stirred up in it! And cereal is about my favorite thing to eat on the whole planet -- so I get lots of milk. I just don't get it all by itself in a glass.:)
  17. I've been doing Angel Food for about a year and a half now. Seems like there have been about 2 times they haven't had them, if I recall correctly (and it's possible that I'm not right -- my memory isn't all that great these days);). It's pretty much a standard item and definitely one of their staples, but not necessarily a given.
  18. We're not doing school, but only because my oldest is enrolled in BJU's live satellite classes, and they're not holding class today. It didn't seem fair to let her have the day off and make the little two work. (Ordinarily, we do not take Labor Day off, and I keep having to remind myself that it's not going to kill us to not do school today. I am irritated by this little break and I'd prefer to be doing school.)
  19. I played the game quite actively a couple of years ago. Now it's in an really inconvenient location for me (about 20 miles away, and even then, in a part of town I never frequent), so I don't do it much anymore. I tried for a while, but my trips were infrequent enough that my Bucks tended to expire before I got over there. (I hear you can call their 800 number and they will reinstate any expired Bucks, but I've never gotten up the nerve to try it.);) It's great fun, though. I can't tell you how much toothpaste and shampoo I still have on hand! I keep wishing I had a more legitimate reason to get over to that part of the world -- can't quite justify it for CVS alone.
  20. I've lost 4 babies -- 1 to early miscarriage, two to stillbirth, and one to a birth defect (anencephaly -- she lived for an hour). They would be 14, 13, 12, and nearly-9 today. The only one I can really imagine in my mind is the youngest, who is also the only one who was close to full-term and who was born alive. I know that she was the spitting image of our oldest daughter -- so it is very easy for me to picture her as my oldest daughter looked at any given age. In addition, my 7 year old's very best friend was born 5 days after our daughter died -- in fact, she was born the day of our daughter's funeral (we did not know them at the time). Since this little girl spends so much time over here playing with my daughter, I am constantly reminded of what our little girl would be like if she had survived. I know about where she would be, physically, mentally, emotionally -- because I see it all the time. With the others, not so much. With my miscarriage, of course, we don't know the gender -- but even with the other two girls, I find it difficult to imagine what they would have been like. So I guess the answer is, I imagine three babies and a nearly-9 year old. I do know, though, that if I had had my way, I'd have a house chock full of teens and preteens these days!
  21. Click on Members List at the top of the page. Then click on Reputation. This will sort everyone by the number of rep points they have, greatest to least. The first person you find on the list with 2 squares (under the last person on the list with 3 squares), for example, is the closest person to earning the third square. It doesn't show you exactly how close they are, but you'll know they're very close just because they're the top person with 2 squares (does that make sense?). A good percentage of the time, giving rep to the top person in a level will move them up to the next level, and that's fun.:)
