  1. When I was pregnant with my 4th child, I had a very troubling sonogram and had to get an MRI. The results were not good. My baby was dx'd as having Agenesis of the Corpus Callosum. I was 7 months pregnant. Mind you, every pregnancy I had had up to that point always seemed to have some sort of massive scare that left us [dh and me] clinging to God. Anyway, the dr called me and begged me not to go on the internet but just wait until she was born. It was hard, but I obeyed. I had to trust. Fast forward 6 1/2 yrs. I have a healthy non-impacted child with no corpus callosum. After she was born and I knew she probably would have no ill effects from this condition, I googled it. Oh my! I would have lost it if I had looked at that and had to thing about it for 2 months. Why do I say this? There are people who have been where you are. It's is so difficult some times not to worry, but worry does no one any good. I don't know if you are spiritual or not, but if it is ok, I would like to pray for you. This is a tough time with littles and probably not enough sleep and your hormones awry from pregnancy. Please talk to your ob/gyn and dh. Perhaps like a pp stated you should not do the dr visits for a while. :grouphug:
  2. I only had one problem child, but I had some of those situations. When things were at their worst, [this was when I had been told my son would not be able to learn, and the prelim dx was ODD] I remember sitting on the couch crying early one morning. I was begging God for help. I'm not going to say I heard an audible voice, but I got the distinct impression that I needed to pull the kids from most of their activities, and I needed to pull out as well. The next couple of years, we did mimimal activities and stayed home as a family. During this time ds met with a wonderful OT and we grew closer as a family. Now, 5 yrs later, I won't say we are a perfect family, but we are happy and for the most part peaceful. Take what you want or don't. I just wanted to share my journey, if only so you will know that you are not alone. :grouphug:
  3. You are so awesome, Audrey. :iagree:
  4. K, thanks. Sorry Rosie, I did not notice the link earlier. Oh and part of my last post didn't . . . well . . . post. The link is a song that I always thing of when I have questions. Sorry for the tangent. Off to look at Coursera a little closer.
  5. OK, back to coursera. [b/c no one really answered my question :P ] I looked them up online. Can I join a course that has started and watch the videos? Are they only live [you know like a goto meeting]? They say there is work involved, am I allowed to just audit a course? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O2j8mKAaJog
  6. Welcome Jen. That is what happened to me oh around 11 yrs ago. Here is where I really failed for many years and it is actually the easiest thing to start, memory work. Now I use Classical Conversations. There are plenty of great resources for memory work, but just start. My kids and I start our day with Latin recitation. We recite all the declensions, conjugations, and pronound [well we haven't gotten to demonstrative pronouns yet but soon] Then we recite whatever skip counting we are working on. [this is from our CC memory work] So today we skip counted the 15s to 15*15. Then we recited the times table for it as well. Then we work through multiplication/division flash cards. The rest of their memory work: history timeline, history sentence for the week, English grammar [this year the prepositions] science, and geography they do on their own. Latin Centered Curriculum is a great source for memory work as is the back of WTM or Veritas Press, or CC. If you implemented that this 2nd part of the year and then slowly added in pieces of WTM starting next year, I'd imagine you would be good to go. HTH
  7. Just what is the Consoura thing I've hearing about? [They say the first step is admitting . . .:P]ETA: Oops, Coursera. See, I really need help. :o
  8. Yet another sign of the impending zombie apocalypse.
  9. ((((())))) Jane. I hope it is resolved soon. I haven't forgotten and you are regularly in my prayers.
  10. Welcome! Since you have older children and are new to homeschooling, I'd keep it simple this first year. Basics with lots of reading. Explore classical education ala WTM or LCC or [my current fav] CiRCE Institute. As you get more comfortable, you will find your unique style and approach.
  11. Renovated and empty. :sad: I'm hoping that will change after the holidays as people are less busy and have gotten used to the change. [Can you use two different tenses in the same sentence if it is compound? hmmmm prolly should change that.]
  12. Lost Tools of Writing. Probably best for Jr High though. I love it.
  13. http://forums.welltrainedmind.com/topic/441228-what-are-all-the-likes-from-posts-made-in-2008/ This could be fun. :001_tt2:
  14. Will pray for His guidance and peace for you all. ((((()))))
  15. How does something like that happen? So sad.
  16. :grouphug: So sorry. :grouphug::grouphug::grouphug:
