  1. I buy bulk frozen vegs, they are cheaper than canned and no BPA and taste better.
  2. I don't think she will pay you at all. I'd expect some payment up front.
  3. Ya, on Twin B! I hope Momma is feeling better soon! re: the drought. It is fairly bad here as well but we have an uber deep well so no personal issues. I know my mom is having some problems though and I don't know how the farmers are making it. I heard the other day that over 50% of the country is in a drought.
  4. I love peace more than these things. I love a simpler routine more than these things. I love less work more than these things. I love more time more than these things. No matter how ruthless you are it is likely you will have to do the process more than once. I'm notoriously non-emotional but I still find things at times that I've held onto without good reason. IT IS A CONTINUAL PROCESS. If you do not keep at it then likely you will end up back where you started. You have to keep a watch on what comes in AND changing needs. I generally do a big declutter at least 2x a year. Phases, needs and wants change. My desire for how clear I want a space changes. I go back and forth between trying to strip it down to thinking I need some more things to make it look "homey." I try to think of how I want a room to look and how I want it to function and what things are in the way of that happening. I was having issues in my kitchen w/ dishes left on the counter because of too much tupperware, every time I went to put them up it would take ages so I'd put it off. So, I went through and get rid of enough and organized enough that I can put them away in 3 seconds, I haven't had any not put up since then. I try to keep what I only have room for, so then I have to prioritize what will fit in that space (neatly). If it doesn't fit, something has to go. Realistically you need to leave extra room as stuff grows. Don't think you'll have more space later, you won't.
  5. Fwiw I made my lasagna tonight and it was delicious. I used my veggie peeler for the zucchini to make thinly sliced long pieces and salted them for an hr, then I blotted out all the moisture I could, my lasagna was not the least watery. I use the outer parts and not the seedy part of the zucchini (the inner part will be chopped for soup or such). My dh who says he hates zucchini with a fiery passion ate a HUGE plateful and wanted seconds but then got distracted (we went to visit his parents). The girls were less impressed but they are not big cheese eaters. You couldn't really taste the zucchini though as thin as it was. I also did a bechamel(which I heavily spiced) sauce and mixed it with the homemade tomato sauce. I had dh make sweet italian sausage w/ beef and pork, which ended up being quite spicy as he put in a bit much of red pepper.
  6. There would be not much tea making w/out a locked door at my house. Knowing a wee one could wander in makes me way too nervous to relax. We don't often shut the door otherwise, although we have been more as of late as ds gets older there is more of a need for modesty b/t boys and girls, although tbh still not much by a lot of people's standards.
  7. I remember the first time I made lasagna with ricotta vs cottage cheese I couldn't believe the yumminess. Both dh and I thought lasagna was nasty before as we'd only had the cottage cheese variety. I don't think my crew can handle it though and the cashew/pinenut version is actually pretty tasty. I was just reading a recipe by Giada whatever her name and she made a bechamel and then added the tomato sauce to it. I might do that as well if I'm feeling adventorous but I'll be making it w/ cashew milk and almond flour. I've got both beef and pork thawed out and am going to make it into some sweet italian sausage for the lasagna, I've been craving lasagna for awhile and I can hardly wait!
  8. I've not before, some recipes do and some don't. It is good to slice thinly and salt and let them sit for an hour or so before cooking. I'll make a pretty thick sauce. Depending on how it looks I might broil them a few minutes on a cookie sheet. I'll be slicing them thin and long like regular noodles.
  9. Breakfast made- grain free biscuits, scrambled eggs, and homemade sausage. Dishes unloaded and loaded. Kitchen and great room swept. Cashews soaking for "cheese" Chicken carcass in crockpot for broth/soup Table and counters cleared from cooking bfast Laundry started Quick bathroom wipedown ds fed rabbit dd1 took out compost everyone helped set table On the list: - a nice walk if dh back stops hurting - hang clothes on line - make something sweet, maybe peach cobbler -leftovers for lunch (chicken potpie) and grainfree lasagna for supper -kids picking up their messes- ie pillow forts and drawing supplies -Read Aloud time -RELAX
  10. Were gf here and dairy limited ie I stick to low lactose varieties and limited amounts. I prefer to be grain free as well, thus the zucchini, which is also free from the garden, so win/win :)
  11. Ds just lost his first 2 at 7 yr 9 months iirc. We had a check-up about 6 months ago and I asked about it then and they said there was no reason to worry as long as the others weren't coming in already. As soon as he lost them, both fairly close to the same time, the others started coming in. He has a few others a little bit loose but if they are anything like the other 2 it will still be several months before they are out. I've heard the same as others that losing them later is better.
  12. Well, my in-laws always stop by in the midst of something. It is some rule or something your house can be clean all week except one hour or such and they would stop by during that hour. My inlaws are not super housekeepers but they don't have kids so don't have to worry about associated kid messes like when dd2 dumps 552 crayons or all the craft supplies are on the table. They are very "cluttery" though, not quite to hoarder levels but mil seems to be aspiring that direction. My fil keeps the basics done although since they hardly cook and there is only 2 of them I don't think there is much in that vein.
  13. :iagree: And I'm not surprised your instincts were right. This thread could just have easily went the other direction of completely agreeing with you but you never know.
  14. Dessert first, is fun, last night we had chicken w/ vegs, then icecream and then moz sticks. A few weeks back we had french fries and icecream at the same time and a hodge podge of other things. I've never done frozen grapes but I bet they'd love them. I'd love a milkshake but we have to make icecream first and I'm lazy. But it would be awesome to do some like flurry after I made the icecream, the kids have never even had that.
  15. I don't think inviting via FB is necessarily tacky but inviting people you don't even know, very tacky, thus why I'd ignore it.
  16. I'd be aggravated that your dd, who knows the house rules, didn't follow them. If you don't have the money, you don't have it. I also think perhaps in the vein of being a good hostess you and your daughter should talk next time and plan out a snack for fun that could fit in the budget, ie something cheap and homemade, maybe even they could make themselves.
  17. LOL! Once we went to visit a friends house and I had to take ds to the bathroom, he was maybe 2.5 at the time. As 2.5 yo's do he was roaming around in there and pulled back the shower curtain and lo and behold there was a random pile of stuff about 5 ft tall. I carefully put it back and never mentioned it !
  18. I do that about every few months as well, and really it could be done monthly. Here a few weeks back dh had to pull out the frig and the stove as both needed worked on and even though I had pulled them out just a few weeks prior there was still stuff under there. It drives me bonkers.
