  1. It cooled down here but the humidity shot up some. It has cooled down the last few nights but it is not cooling down as much inside due to the humidity. We are looking at highs of low 90s all week and lows of low 70s.
  2. Well, even in the Bible the man isn't always right. Sometimes the women had to lead. Everyone is wrong at least some of the time, all of us are selfish sometime, none of us are married to Jesus. Sometimes I've acquiesced to dh even though I didn't agree 100% and vice versa, we both have trusted each other. But we've both put our foot down when we've thought the other dead wrong as well. Just as we would any other brother or sister in Christ.
  3. Dh and I wish that is what we would have done when we had to rebuild after the fire. As it was we rented a house in town. We hated it. It was harder for dh to work on the place and it meant we got to see him even less than we were already. It would have been so nice to actually been able to be there and be on our own property and if you have land it makes it all seem so much bigger.
  4. :iagree: It seems that there is a divergence on what it means to be the head of the household and how it is defined in many circles is not what I'd call biblical. I'd prefer not to use that term actually due to the connotations it generally has from those that say it. Just as many disagree about various points of the Bible I disagree with how the head of the household is often played out.
  5. Thanks for the input. I've found that I like navy blue, black, dark gray, bright pink and dark green. I like reds and purples but it seems hard to find a good shade though, whereas the others are safer. I haven't looked at much that is orange but I'll keep an eye out there. I do know pastels look horrible on me. Mariann- thanks for the names of the catalogs I haven't heard of those, I'll check them out.
  6. Wow, I had no idea! I'll have to keep an eye out. Right now I have a boatload of old pencils from dh's grandma, thank goodness.
  7. We ended up having homemade meatballs w/ sauce over rice and almond flour chocolate chip cookies for dessert last night. I had a zucchini from the garden I chopped in the sauce and used pureed tomatoes and lots of spices. For lunch we had a bunch of leftovers still yet; apple muffins, baked potatoes, carrots, pb, homemade crackers, sausage, pork roast, rice, green beans- you get the idea- I love not cooking lunch :) Today will be veg eggs and homemade smoothies for all. Leftover meatballs and rice for lunch along with ??(I don't have enough for all), and chicken with sliced tomatoes and roasted potatoes and zuc.
  8. If you look at the rates of inductions, epidurals and csections in this country it is obvious that a lot of areas are like this. Medically the csection rate should be around 5-10%, but we are at 30%. More c-sections don't mean it is safer for mom or baby, but actually more dangerous. For some women and babies they are absolutely needed, as I said about 5-10% but otherwise it is MORE dangerous to mom and baby. The problem is the birth process in many areas leads to c-sections, inductions and epidurals (especially how they are done and the timing) increase the risk and the number of c-sections. I've had 1 hospital and 2 homebirths. My hospital birth actually went pretty well but I searched out for the only good ob in town. Others routinely induce at 37-38 weeks for convenience. Did anyone read that study last week about how babies born term but early - ie 37-39 weeks are shown to be at a disadvantage statistically than those born at term. There are times when intervention is needed but those exceptions don't make the rule. It doesn't make intervention or csections safe or good for everyone. It just means for a small number of certain people it is the safest option given the circumstances. We need to stop creating those circumstances where they doesn't exist.
  9. Well, that explains a lot, my almost 8 yo eats as much as dh and I usually. Quite often he eats more than my husband, we think perhaps he is on a growing spurt! But he has always had a big appetite, he is a very, very active kid though. Dd1(5yo) doesn't eat near as much but then again she is the one more likely to fill up on carbs.
  10. OWWW! That sounds like something I would do, you need to babyproof your house to protect yourself :)
  11. Dh has a favorite chair that is a recliner- but he doesn't automatically expect everyone to move from it. If I'm sitting there he'd never ask me to move, if it was a kid he might, depending on his mood(ie it is nice and comfy for him and when he gets home from work he likes to relax there). None of us always sit in one spot though. I often ask him if he wants me to move as it is a nice big chair but he always says no.
  12. I guess that depends on how you define the head of the household as evidently we don't define it in the same way as most people who use that term. We have both had our "hills to die on" but generally we agree or we come to an agreement. We are blessed with a wonderful marriage and I haven't really met anyone irl that I thought were better off(not to say we are perfect though), regardless of how they defined those things. I've seen happy marriages from all sort of people, I don't think Christianity or patriarchy owns the rights to happy people or marriages. I think anytime though that there is a lack of communication, respect and working together it leads to the breakdown of marriage.
  13. That is similar to our mornings as I'm too lazy to write out details. I love my morning time. Things go much better in the am as well when I make sure we do clean up in the evenings, that is done as a family though. I do not stay up past the kids. My time in the am is enough for us to keep up on cleaning tasks with little bits of upkeep done in the am, lunch and evening. We do family activity and exercise, we like to hike, bike, etc together.
  14. That is my dd2 as well. We call her fuzz head, when it is humid it looks great but when it is dry, not so much! I hadn't thought much about it as she is young and for awhile it was so short but we've been breaking some of the "rules" as well.
  15. I appreciate the input. Any thoughts on colors? I have to say though I don't care to look all that trendy. I won't do heels, ever. I'm more interested in buying colors that work for me than what is in style. I might try scarfs but they seem soooo uber trendy. My budget is non-existent now as it is but I'm hopeful that after the baby is born and I'm back to normal I can find some decent pieces for good prices if I know what I'm looking for ahead of time.
  16. I was going to mention this as well. Evidently our basement has some rough spots and when dh when to put down tile it was a nightmare. He worked with a huge sander a while but then just gave up and we went to paper bagging the floor. My brother used the 12 in tile with the little tiles stuck together for his shower floor bottom since it slopes. We just have 12 in upstairs and we like it. In the kitchen I do have the island surrounded by a border and then the tiles on the interior ran at a diagonal, which wasn't very expensive but looks neat.
  17. I don't carry a purse or diaper bag at the moment. Dd has been pt'd for over a year now so no need for me. Often I will leave the diaper bag in the car as well, unless the baby is super small and I plan on being inside somewhere an extended time. As of now I have a wallet and keys with me. I wouldn't mind a small over the shoulder tote but then again w/ a baby I often use the ergo and keep what I need in the pocket.
  18. LOL, I'd have a hard time not *sharing* that!
  19. All of mine love meat as well, although dd1 leans more veg as she loves carbs and beans as well. The other 2 like them also but not like she does. I sent ds some potato chips for his supper at camp and he came back w/ extra meanwhile us girls here wiped all of ours out :) Mine all like veggies pretty well except peas and asparagus. Although they've all went through stages of what and how much they ate. When our budget was higher I'd let them eat more meat, like you I'd encourage that over the carbs.
  20. I like 12 in unless the room is really big.
