  1. Yep, my son is a freshman. His classes start tomorrow. He has an assignment for his chem class that has to be completed before tomorrow. And,... the professor just posted it this weekend!
  2. Check out https://www.reddit.com/r/SkincareAddiction/ There is so much good information there, especially in the sidebar. If her acne is cystic, birth control might be your best option. Be careful, though, not all BC is good for acne. This link https://www.acne.org/messageboard/topic/330166-good-bad-birth-control-pills-and-implants-for-acne/ has some great information. My children have used the acne.org routine. It worked well for one and not the other. ETA- You really don't need to see an OB/GYN for birth control. Birth control is prescribed for all sorts of medical reasons. Our family doc has always prescribed it.
  3. Check out this skincare Reddit, especially the sidebar. It is full of good information. https://www.reddit.com/r/SkincareAddiction/ I am a bit of a skincare fanatic😳, so I will give you an idea of what I do. I used to have bad skin, but now at 45, my skin is pretty good. I really don't need a lot of makeup, just some eyeliner and mascara so I don't look washed out. A consistent skincare routine can really make a difference. 1. Cleanse with low ph cleanser. Stop using soap. Soap has too high a ph and can damage your moisture barrier. This is one of the cleansers that I use https://www.makeupartistschoice.com/Green-TeaPomegranate-Cleanser-or-Toner-or-Both_p_99.html Cerave makes pretty good cleansers, too. 2. Chemically Exfoliate with either a beta hydroxy acid or alpha hydroxy acid. Someone upthread mentioned Paula's Choice. Her products are good, although there are cheaper alternatives such as Stridex in the Red Box (BHA) or Alpha skincare (AHA). All these products have the appropriate ph to be effective, which is extremely important. I use a 2% BHA in tha morning and an 8-10% AHA in the evening. 3. Moisturize. I use a combination of different things depending on what my skin is like from day to day. Olay makes some really good moisturizers. I often use the Total Effects 7 in One moisturizer in the a.m. My daughter uses First Aid Beauty Repair Cream. She has sensitive skin and loves it. Cerave PM is also good, but breaks some people out. Lately, I have been using Grapeseed or Rosehip oil to moisturize in the evening. It has been working well. The Rosehip I use is from Trilogy and the Grapeseed from Bella Terra Oils. This is a very basic routine. Sometimes, I use a Vitamin C serum in the mornings before my moisturizer. It depends on how much time I have. The acids and VIitamin C all help to even skin tone. Also, when adding new products to your routine, add one thing at a time to see how your skin responds. My skin is pretty tough, but some people are very sensitive to acids, so go slowly. You really have to listen to what your skin is telling you. If you try something, and start to notice irritation, stop. Wait a few days and try reintroducing it again. Obviously, everyone is different, so much of your routine will be trial and error to see what works best for your skin. The sidebar in the skincare addiction Reddit really gives some nice recommendations for products according to the issues you may have. Sorry for the long post. I know you primarily asked about makeup, but with a good routine, you probably won't need any. Good luck and hope this helps!😊 I edited so that I could add... It is possible to over-exfoliate, so watch for dryness. It is not always necessary to exfoliate daily. Every other day or every few days is fine if that works better for your particular skin type.
  4. But....the bad guy dropped his gun and fled only after the good guy returned fire.
  5. All of my kids have used The Regimen from acne.org. It really works, although it takes a month or so to really see results. It is a benzoyl peroxide treatment, but the trick is to use lots of it. So if you try it, make sure you follow the directions exactly.
  6. Has she tried The Regimen on Acne.org? Basically it is benzoyl perioxide, but you use a lot of it. It has really worked for both my son and my daughter. After about three months, they both had pretty clear skin. Make sure you follow the instructions on the website exactly. Hoping it works for your dd :grouphug:
  7. Thank you! This is very helpful. I just might be able to do this. :hurray:
  8. Thank you! This is very helpful. I just might be able to do this. :hurray:
  9. Deb, What do you typically eat on your fast days? Do you fast 24 or 36 hours? Thanks, Linda
  10. No, you do not have to submit vaccinations. Here is a copy of the wording in my affidavit: I attest that: I am the parent, guardian, or legal custodian of the above students. I am the supervisor of the home education program and am responsible for the provision of instruction in the home education program. I have earned a high school diploma or its equivalent. The subjects required by law will be offered in the English language. Each of the above students has received the immunizations required by law, or has a medical or religious exemption. Each of the above students has received the health and medical services required by law for students of the child’s age or grade level. No adult living in the home, or any person having legal custody of the student, has been convicted within five years of today’s date of any of the criminal offenses enumerated in Section 111 of the Pennsylvania Consolidated Statutes. The home education program shall comply with the provisions of Section 13-1327.1 of Pennsylvania Statutes Annotated This notarized affidavit shall be satisfactory evidence thereof. The affidavit is enough evidence that the student has received their vaccinations.
  11. I have three suggestions: Contemporary World History by William Duiker http://www.amazon.com/Contemporary-World-History-William-Duiker/dp/0495572713/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1375792175&sr=8-1&keywords=william+duiker+contemporary The End of the European Era by Felix Gilbert http://www.amazon.com/The-End-European-Era-Present/dp/0393930408/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1375792295&sr=8-1&keywords=the+end+of+the+european+era A Short History of the 20th Century by Geoffrey Blainey http://www.amazon.com/Short-History-Twentieth-Century/dp/1566637937/ref=sr_1_1?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1375792342&sr=1-1&keywords=a+short+history+of+the+20th+century
  12. Unfortunately, yes. If your state has the free online public school, there should be two links - one for the public and one for the private.
  13. Jean, Does your state have Connections Academy? I know the one in my state does not put a homeschooled student back into ninth as long as you can account for what the student did.
  14. This really is the way it should be. Since an evaluator has to meet certain criteria set by the state, the letter should be enough to prove that an adequate education is occurring.
  15. This confuses me. I thought the superintendent was the only person allowed to review the portfolio. Anyone else who views it must have permission from me, the supervisor of the homeschool program. Is this not correct?
  16. This is what is so wrong the the PA homeschool law - too much room for misinterpretation. Why do we have to submit a portfolio to the school district when we also submit an evaluator's letter? It should be one or the other. I wish we could just do testing. :glare:
  17. Are you in Pennsylvania? If so, you don't have to teach health or P.E. every year, only some time between K-6. Most school districts, however, really don't know the law. This is the time to educate them about it.
  18. I am 40 and DH is 55. Our age difference has never really been a factor in our relationship. What has been most important has been our common faith and family backgrounds.
  19. This is what I am doing, although we are doing it for the logic stage because my youngest is a late bloomer and we spent the grammar stage focusing on reading, spelling, and math. We will use: CHOW between 4th and 5th Gombrich between 5th and 6th Van Loon between 6th and 7th ???? between 7th and 8th. During the school year we will use TOG.
  20. My fourteen year old son was beginning to have the same problem. We tried The Regimen from Acne.org and it has really worked. You must, however, follow the directions exactly. At first, my son wasn't consistent and we didn't see results. Now he follows the directions exactly and his skin looks very nice. HTH, Linda
  21. Really? :confused1: This just mystifies me. We are musically inclined here. My daughter spends a lot of time on her piano, over an hour every day. She also participates regularly in recitals, play for weddings and church. Right now she is working on a Beethoven sonata. How is that less academic than a PE or health credit? But then, I don't give credits for PE or Health.
  22. I shop at Wegmans. Yes, it is a great store. Their produce is always nice, even in the winter!
  23. Could you post a link for this? I've looked, but can't find the article anywhere. Thanks, Linda
