  1. I am doing this with my daughter. We did 5th grade this year, and we will do it again in the fall. She has an August birthday, and she really needs the extra year to mature. Better to do it now than later.
  2. I'm 37 and I have RA. I'm just thankful that the meds are controlling it, and I usually have very little pain. The fatigue that goes along with it really knocks me on my butt though. :glare:
  3. I rarely post anything, but mine is http://www.facebook.com/cristilyn.schoenborn
  4. I lost 100 pounds on Medifast. As someone else said, the first three days are really hard, but after that, your body adjusts.
  5. Thanks all. We may go for it. I showed it to her today, and she thinks she might like it. :001_smile:
  6. I am considering using this for my daughter next year. She will be 11 then. My main concern is that many of the readers, even the advanced ones, seem to be below her reading level. Has anyone used this with a 5th grader, and how did you like it?
  7. I'm thinking about using it for 5th grade in the fall. Is it enough, or is it light?
  8. I just started using it with my ten year old this week. We will only take a few months with it though, instead of a whole year, and then we'll move on to Writing Tales Two.
  9. Mine has little time to read, but listens to audio books daily. Sometimes I read something he is listening to, and we discuss it.
  10. I just recently bought a Kindle Touch for my 5th grader. She really likes it. My main reason for buying it was the ability to immediately look up unfamiliar words. :001_smile: I also like that it helps keep down the number of physical books that I have to find shelf space for! She's using it at this moment to read a biography of Abigail Adams, and right before that she used it to read a chapter of The Cabin Faced West.
  11. I'd use tofu. This recipe from Mori-Nu is the BEST pumpkin pie I've ever had. I don't really like pumpkin pie, but I like this one. http://www.morinu.com/recipes/categories/index.cfm?fuseaction=dsp_recipe&ID=635&CourseID=4&RequestTimeout=500
  12. I surrender! :D No school for him today. He is beginning to feel his toes again. They don't hurt exactly, but they don't feel good either. Hopefully by Monday, they'll feel much better.
  13. He had minor surgery on both big toes this morning to correct ingrown toenails. He told me he thinks he shouldn't have to do school today, since he's recovering from surgery. He feels well enough to play Minecraft though, so I fear he will have to pull out the schoolbooks this afternoon.
  14. Loving: Prairie Primer Saxon Math Literary Lessons from Lord of the Rings
  15. DD 5th is in 6/5. This is our first year with Saxon, and on the placement test she scored right on the edge between 6/5 and 7/6. I decided to go with 6/5 to ease into Saxon and make sure she has everything cemented well.
  16. I posted in this thread awhile back, but we have a new hit! DD loves the Prairie Primer. We were at a stopping place with our history and science that we were doing, so I decided to go for it. We'd never done a unit study before. We are both having a blast with it. This afternoon we're going to make vinegar pie like Ma made for Christmas in the Big Woods. :D
  17. I did Chem II with my then 4th grader last year. It was almost too tough. I would definitely go with Chem I if I were you.
  18. Hits: Phonetic Zoo, Lapbooks with our science Misses: Teaching Textbooks. We switched to Saxon, which I hope is a good fit for us. We've only done a couple of lessons, but so far, so good.
  19. Thanks for the commiseration and advice. I'm already a vegetarian, but I am looking into the diet aspect. The doctor put me on Methotrexate, and we're waiting to see if that works for me before we try anything more aggressive. I thought I was handling this okay, but last night I just started bawling because it suddenly hit me that I have this life altering illness. I am better today though, emotionally anyway. The prednisone the doctor gave me until the Methotrexate kicks in doesn't seem to be working. The office is closed tomorrow, so I'll call Monday morning if there's still no improvement.
  20. I've been having joint pain since June. After several trips to my regular doctor and then seeing a specialist, I finally got the diagnosis of rheumatiod arthritis yesterday. The specialist started me on a treatment, but it's likely we'll have to experiment to find what works best for me. I was really hoping it was something we could treat and would go away, not something I'll be dealing with for the rest of my life. Of course, who does want a lifelong chronic condition!
  21. I've never seen one before! They wanted to sell me chicken, steak, and seafood. Um, no thanks. I prefer to buy my food from reputable sources.
  22. I'm waiting along with you. :glare: Decided at the last minute not to do online school with my DS, and ordered curriculum. Still waiting on most of it, but hopefully some will arrive today.
  23. I decided to go with Prentice Hall's Earth Science by Tarbuck. I know it was mentioned as being college level, but it's on the Pearson Education website as a high school text. Maybe Tarbuck wrote a college level book as well?
