  1. Oh - forgot. Meet the Great Composers hasn't gotten any use. I bought workbooks to go with the R&S readers we already have but they haven't been used either. Linguistic Development through Poetry Memorization from IEW has seen no use....
  2. Well for THIS year....we've used a BIT of it, but Artistic Pursuits is not getting much use. For several years I've had the Kincaide Art still in the box. I have 2 kit packs from Hands of A Child for CA history - planning to do that in the summer. We made it partway through Latina Christiana 2 but since it's not mine I'm able to return it. LOL Otherwise that's it...
  3. I thought this was very interesting: Flu may not have killed most in 1918 pandemic http://www.reuters.com/article/scienceNews/idUSTRE5146PD20090205?feedType=RSS&feedName=scienceNews&sp=true I would love to hear thoughts of those more in the know than I am about this kind of stuff. And why is this newer finding not being reported?:glare:
  4. I checked the WHO website and found this: http://www.who.int/csr/don/2009_04_28/en/index.html
  5. We're not far from that community and I'll just be honest. I'm "calmly" freaking out. :001_huh: I read up on Spanish flu. WOW. If this IS like that...and the economy being what it is...unfathomable....
  6. Is there a difference between this one and the one Christian Liberty Press publishes? http://ebiz.netopia.com/clpress/pages/store/skudetail.nhtml?profile=history&uid=10811&returnURL=http%3A//ebiz.netopia.com/clpress/history If it is the same book...what year was the second edition published? Asking because I can order it on Paperback Swap but there is no picture of the book...only the year published...and there is no where I can opt to email the person who posted it to ask them... THANKS!!
  7. I have heard that some believe that the alcohol that Christ turned into wine was not "alcoholic"...they argue about "new wine" and such. I personally feel it's a huge stretch, especially since clearly it could make someone drunk... That said, I would not join. Christ Himself instituted wine in the sacrament of the Lord's Supper. While it is not the element that does anything, I wouldn't take it lightly that that is exactly what He instituted us to drink "in remembrance of Me".... I couldn't take a vow to deny consumption of an element Christ Himself commanded us to remember Him with.
  8. Oh - and the nice perk about R&S is that they're super cheap!
  9. Rod and Staff's ABC Preschool Series is great. Both my girls loved it.
  10. Agreeing with Ellie and adding that R&S really focuses on the basics in those first years to set the foundation (think of it as the grammar of math). Definitely check out the scope and sequence. It's an excellent math program!:001_smile:
  11. Well, there are a few variations of it in the directions I think. But we read it as though you can only call "peel" when all the tiles in your set are played.
  12. You can rearrange your tiles throughout the game. If you know that won't help and you still have tiles, you just wait till someone calls "peel". I didn't even know you could "dump" a tile! LOL When we've played and ALL the players couldn't move forward, we just all decided to pick another tile and that started it going again. Every player takes just ONE tile each time someone yells "peel". HTH!:001_smile: We love Bananagrams - we took it to our Easter dinner yesterday and played it with 14 relatives! LOL
  13. I did R&S English 2 and 3 much like FLL is set up - we sat together and I went through it orally. I only had her doing some of the written work by the second half of grade 3. By grade 4 she was doing a lot of it independently, but definately not all the problems - way too much IMO. I'm going through FLL with my second child and we're working through year 2 of it right now. It might be a bit "lighter" in terms of work load...but I think the content is very comparable. I prefer FLL at this point - for the early grammar years. We'll transition to R&S English either for grade 4 or 5.
  14. We aren't using their reading any longer, but when we were, I didn't keep them together.
  15. My views have shifted on this over the years. Basically, we like to enjoy the fun of it - the candy, the eggs, the gathering with family and feasting on ham (BLECH! LOL) and we look at it as a way for us to create enjoyable memories with our children, as well as strengthen family ties. We frankly could care less if it "started" as a pagan holiday. We aren't worshipping any goddesses at Easter...or likewise on Christmas we aren't worshipping our Christmas tree. There is nothing unclean in having an egg hunt...unless you use real hardboiled eggs and end up stepping on one... We just don't make a big deal about it since every Sunday is when we corporately worship, remember and commune with Him in the ordinance of the Lord's Supper. To us, there are hills to die on and the *origins* of holidays are just not one of them.:001_smile:
  16.:laugh::laugh::laugh: I meant STARBURST!!!! Can you tell what's on my mind today?!?!:lol: So sorry - I sure hope no one has gone looking for these....
  17. Ugh. I'd be bummed without TJ's too. :( :grouphug:
  18.:lol::lol: So glad I'm not the only one! I've had to replace the Starbucks jelly beans....with just a half bag...so of course I'm EATING the other half of the bag....and it's starting to dwindle....thinking I'll need to go buy another. LOL Oh..and 2 Cadbury eggs. But those were mine anyway - it's a family basket my mom put together. :tongue_smilie:
  19. I'm just curious. We're doing SOTW3 with Biblioplan and I've figured out the books I need to purchase and the ones I can get from our library. We have a pretty good library system, thankfully! :) I'm just curious how much you spend on your history spine and accompanying literature etc. It's by far the subject I spend the most on and I'm wondering if that's typical...lol
