  1. My Dad was doing this back in the 80's-90's. We lived in the Central Valley (not too far from Stockton) and he worked in the Bay Area. 2.5 hour commute. He worked out a deal with his employer where he worked Mon,Tues, Thurs, Fri, home Wed and weekends, and sleeping in his office Mon and Thurs nights.
  2. Someone from more recent history. Johnathan Daniels: White seminarian who helped register black voters in the South in the 1960's. Took a bullet for a 17 year old black activist he was walking with.
  3. Stuff for sandwiches with salad and chips? (rolls, deli meat, tomato, onion, lettuce, etc. I'd assume they have condiments)
  4. I bought this one off Amazon. It has the coverage of a tankini, but it's the bottom piece that comes up high, rather than a top piece coming down to the bottoms. It has great support and coverage. Plus Size High Waist Vintage Retro Bikini Push Up Separate Swimwear-KJX802-YLF4 https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01HY6FZYI/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_LZfnzbRV65751
  5. A decorative pumpkin. It rolled around the side of the freeway for a few days before it disappeared.
  6. I got my Viv leggings, too. I'm a size 10, and the regular size fits just fine. They're super comfy!
  7. Two I ordered are supposed to arrive today. :D
  8. I like to wear dolman tops with my leggings, ones that stop just slightly above my crotch. They have enough flowiness to them that I like the way they look with form-fitting bottoms, but also give me a more defined waistline and backside than I get with tunic tops.
  9. I bought so many harem pants when I was living in Reno, NV. It gets *windy* there, so anything flowy was going to flow right on over your head most days. I have harem pants that people think are skirts at first glance. Nice and breezy without the risk of a wardrobe malfunction.
  10. Since I started reading this thread I've bought two more pairs of leggings. :P
  11. Capri-length leggings. ;) Also skirts.
  12. Okay, so most of the towns I've looked into are within a ~2.5 hour radius of Chur (by train). I'm getting a Swiss Rail pass, because it will get me onto almost all trains, buses, and boats, as well as into several museums in Switzerland. You can buy one that's good for 3 days. Viamala is the area I'm most excited to visit. There are videos on youtube of the gorge there (you hike down to it), and there's also St Martins church nearby in the town of Zillis (population: 403) that has medieval frescos on the ceiling. There's also some castle ruins. You get to the area from Chur by bus that requires reservations, but they don't need to be booked super far in advance. From what I've been able to gather from looking at the area online, it reminds me of a national park that has bus stops for each of the local sites, and I'm pretty sure the busfare is covered by the RailPass. It seems like a pretty rural-feeling area, even though you'll only be about 30 minutes from Chur. The Appenzell region may be more what you have in mind. It's 2.25 hours by train, North of Chur, not too far from the Austrian border. The old-town has painted houses. Nearby, in a town called Stein (which you have to take a PubliCar to get to, there's no train or bus) there's a Folklore museum and a dairy that does public tours and cheese tasting. Luzern: Not a small town, but has a cool painted bridge from medieval times, and several art museums, one which has some Picassos. And a town that's not on my list to visit (too far) but I would if I could: Interlaken. The pictures of it look gorgeous, and every time I talk to someone who's been to Switzerland before, they sound disappointed when I tell them I won't be able to get to Interlaken.
  13. How fun! I'm actually going to be spending a week in Chur this May. When I get home today and have my travel guide with me I'll let you know what towns I have planned out to visit. And of course I'll post again in May after I'm home. :) All the places I'm planning to visit are small-ish towns, and one national park that has an amazing gorge (Viamala).
  14. Yes! I think those bottle-neck security lines are actually the most dangerous part of airplane travel, from a terror-risk perspective. A large crowd of people all jammed together, *before* any sort of screening has taken place. I found the video incredibly disturbing. The kid was obviously not hiding anything under his lose, thin clothing, and his private areas were checked repeatedly. Ugh.
  15. It's also good for geography lessons. "United States, Canada, Mexico, Panama..."
  16. DH and I are going to Switzerland this year (YAY!!!) and we're hearing a lot of comments about getting anti-RFID wallets or sleeves for our credit cards and passports. Google has mixed opinions. Some people saying your card being "wirelessly scanned" is paranoid hype, others saying it happened to them (but they it could also be that their card information was stolen via a skimmer). What says the hive? Our cards have the new chip technology, but I cannot do the tap-and-pay with them. Worth the extra dollars to get some sleeves for my cards, or is it hype?
  17. The mills still exist, but they're being increasingly automated. They don't need nearly as many human hands to operate as they used to.
  18. We're in MN where it's also been unseasonably warm. I hardly saw my kids today because they were out riding their bikes with all the other kids.
  19. Even without scientific evidence (which there is), I tend to believe LGBT people when they say they've felt this way all (or almost all) their lives. It doesn't make sense to put up with all the crap they put up with for a simple choice, especially since many of them also express desire to have the more "traditional" life they know they "ought" to have, but know (often by painful experience) that it would make them miserable.
  20. Ya, the neighbor didn't want to disconnect from the dog. Just that it was even something she had to consider!! I can't imagine how the mother-in-law can do that to her grandkids.
  21. Anyone still watching? This week's episode was so sad. And ridiculous! Disconnect from a dog?!
  22. I wear it almost daily. I love it. I love creating "looks" and adding drama to my outfits, even the non-dressy ones. I have a big red bag full of different eye shadows and blushes and lip sticks. I don't judge women for not wearing it. I don't refuse to be seen without it. I enjoy camping. ;)
  23. I would also check out the "Surviving Scientology" YouTube channel for interviews with a lot of the same people who have been on the show. You get more of their stories. It's run by the couple who was on a few a week's ago, the one whose son died and they wouldn't let the mother see the body.
