  1. If it is any encouragement to you, our son (who was adopted at age 17 months), did not walk until age 2 or speak until age three, is now a very articulate young man at age 13. He is quiet, but speaks well when needed, and is VERY artistic. His drawings and models are incredible!!!! I guess what I want to say is don't get discouraged. He is so young. Things can work themselves out. Susie is SWVA
  2. Our daughter and her husband do. Here is their website - http://www.time2pawssc.vpweb.com. I am sure she would love to correspond with you about it. They are also on Facebook. She is a member of some petsitting/boarding organizations that might be of some help to you. They are looking into expanding into "doggie daycare". Susie in SWVA
  3. Nurse anesthetist. (Does a lot of labor epidurals.) Susie in SWVA
  4. My son-in-law is a freelance writer/editor. He does very well. Check out his website - blackdogwriting.com. Feel free to tell him that his mother-in-law sent you, if you wish to contact him. Jeff is his name and he is married to my Rebekah (Beka). I wish you well in your writing endeavors. Susie in SWVA
  5. Corned beef hash (leftover from St. Patrick's Day), sauteed Swiss chard (beautiful! - purchased at our farmer's market on Saturday), Swedish Limpa Rye bread and leftover Bailey's Irish Cream cheesecake. Susie in SWVA
  6. I love the ides of March. It's my birthday! I already told my son-in-law to BEWARE! And no one is allowed to remind me how old I am (the big 60 - I accidentally typed 20! hahaha). OK, I'm giddy today. Susie in SWVA
  7. I have one daughter who is involved in an Australian Shepherd Rescue and she fosters and transports also. She is fostering two right now - both very different but sweet dogs. It is sometimes very heartbreaking, but she loves it. I also have another daughter who rescues and transports dogs and rescues Siamese cats. She doesn't foster because she and her husband run a very successful petsitting business in SC. (http://time2pawssc.vpweb.com/) Susie in SWVA
  8. I am 60 years old (in March) and homeschooling an essentially only son who is 13. I have 4 long gone daughters (who were homeschooled). I don't fit in with the homeschooling crowd very well. Susie in SWVA

  11. If I include four years of college straight out of high school, I will be 69. Oh, that hurts! We adopted our son after our other four were in high school, college and grad school. I started over. Susie in SWVA
  12. This sounds like a description of my granddaughter. My daughter (her mother) has the entire family on a wheat free diet the whole month of February just to see if wheat could be at least part of the problem. Her other grandmother has Celiac disease and her dad has Crohn's. It might be worth considering. It seems like more and more people are having issues with wheat and/or gluten these days. 13. Our daughter met her husband at IV at Virginia Tech. Good group. Susie in SWVA
  14. Our favorites are: 1. Film Scores 2. Celtic 3. Jazz Essentials 4. New Age Solo Piano 5. Ambient I personally listen to a lot of classical, but not on Pandora. My husband is not particularly a fan of classical music, although I think he is coming around. Susie in SWVA
  15. SO CUTE! We have two dogs - Flint (my son chose this from a book he was reading) and Bandit (we got him from a shelter and that was already his name - which he has lived up to!). Our daughter has two and a foster - Wookie, Cocoa Bean (Coco for short) and the fostered dog is Kallee. Susie in SWVA
  16. THE LAND OF MILK AND OMELETS by Ken Kraft! It is out of print but findable. I read this about 20 years ago (and would like to read it again) when we moved to a rural area. So funny and so true! It is about a couple who moved to Missouri just after WWII. Great read. Susie in SWVA
  17. I recently made pizza using a Bob's Red Mill Gluten Free Pizza crust mix. It was very good - I was surprised! The dough was a bit unusual, but I am a baker (by profession). It was soft and very nice when baked. Susie in SWVA
  18. As far as I know, RC's cancer is in remission. I haven't heard anything about it for several years. Denise was a very sweet person and hostess. Their house was always open. My husband used to play poker with RC and some other friends when they lived in southwest Virginia. In fact, one time they were playing poker on our front porch under an awning in the pouring rain and I was playing waitress taking them food and drinks! Susie in SWVA
  19. You all are great! So simple and yet I never thought of it! I do white sauce all the time. In fact in my home ec class, way back when, part of my final exam was to make white sauce. Thanks! Susie in SWVA
  20. That is a good idea. Yes, I am against all the junk in canned soups. Susie in SWVA
  21. Does anyone have a recipe for hash brown casserole (side dish, not breakfast) that DOES NOT use canned soup? Would you share? Susie in SWVA
  22. Please get a dog from a rescue, whatever breed you decide you want. One of my daughters is a foster home for rescued Australian Shepherds. Those people and the dogs are wonderful. Susie in SWVA
  23. Our countertop! We don't have any upper cabinets, just windows. Susie in SWVA
