  1. That was a part of it. There was somebody in congress that fought about that if it were good enough for the American people it was good enough for them (most did not want any part of their health care bill) I dont know if that is still part of it or not. They have changed so much about it (not for the better) but I can say for sure at one point that was in the bill.
  2. It is happening alot! I wasnt able to get on most the afternoon because of it. :glare:
  3. Ours is the same way. I just give up looking for any of the recommended reading with SOTW, I just automatically get an ILL started. I have done that for over a year and 1x they told me they had the book:glare:. We are not apart of the PINE but we are the WYLD. Im attempting to get my own library of what I will be using.
  4. I went through that with my daughter (and still do at times)The dr suggested to us to give her carnation instant breakfast WITH her meals because it is full of vitamin packed calories. We did so many tests on her to see why she was so thin (you could see every bone. She looked like an anorexic 8 year old:001_huh:) she wasnt even 50 lbs and she is in off the charts for height (a 4'10") 8 year old. It took time but it worked for her. I would say she would gain a lb every 2weeks or so at first. It was slow but it was steady. She was so pale too, but all her tests were fine. Her metabolism is just rediculously high. She still eats well more than I do and cant gain unless we make her (wish I had that problem:glare:)
  5. Saxon Phonics Intervention is amazing, but its a bit pricey. $145 for the entire program on rainbow resource. But its an entire program. Check it out! http://www.rainbowresource.com/prodlist.php?sid=1269489630-594767&subject=5&category=814
  6. http://www.everydayspelling.com/ but it only goes to 8th grade, not high school.
  7. PLEASE explain to me how this fits in together!!!!!! Also, is this a Christian worldview of biology or a secular worldview of biology???? I know this just came out, but I have seen a few posts of people whose children have completed it already! Thanks
  8. That looks really good! Thanks!!! I am going to look more into that but so far I really like this!
  9. OK I am looking WAY ahead with this one, but I guess its never to early to start thinking, right? This is a question for when my now 6th grader is in 8th grade. I am going to do government & economics in 8th grade. There are SOOOO many to chose from! I am looking at possibly Land of Fair Play from CLP for government. Does anybody have any other suggestions? What about for economics? Thanks
  10. This is an awesome resource until you get comfortable (and even after if you have a questions) http://www.worldbook.com/typical_course_of_study.html Hope this helps!
  11. We took our daughters out of PS because there was a total conflict with what they were being taught VS what we believed. My oldest daughter completed 4th grade in PS and started 5th grade in HS. She couldnt do 5th grade math. She couldnt do 4th grade math. I had to take her down to a 3rd grade level and she also was an honor student in PS. Makes you wonder what the student who are not honor students know. Its quite sad that that is the level of most* public schools. I took our time. I didnt get any lower curriculum for her because I didnt want her to feel "dumb". It wasnt her fault! I went based on the world book encyclopedia's typical course of study and we just did review. Once I got her up to par we started the 5th grade math book. It was then that I decided to do math year round. We do math (half lessons) on our breaks (Christmas, spring, summer, and any others we take) just so they do not loose what they have learned. She also didnt know anything about American History after leaving public school. I got her caught up there basically with library books until I found a great American History program. She didnt know anything about world history (except that mummys were in Egypt where the pyramids are :001_huh:) That being said I would LOVE to know what they studied the first 4 years of elementry school. So that is why this year we started MOH 1. That is the reason we do an american history and a world history program this year and will next year. I dont do it in a way that its too much (world history we do at night as kind of a family read aloud time) But I feel the public school system (in 2 states) failed my kids miserably. I feel like it is also my fault for not catching it sooner and doing something about it sooner. Im sorry I went on a total ramble there. Im not sure if I even answered your question.... but that was my PS school experience. If anything, I think public school systems should take advice from "unqualified home school parents" <---- Our public school superintendents words at a homeschool meeting he insisted on coming to.
  12. OK, I am trying to decide how to proceed with next year for my soon to be 7th grader. I love the idea of Stobaughs courses, but through talking to other people on here who have used him and questioning a few things:glare:. The problem is before I bought this, I got an english curriculum (not knowing that Stobaughs course was a complete language arts course:001_huh:). My question, would it be possible to use Stobaugh JUST as a reading course (without doing all the essays) and continue with my previous writing/english program? I am sooo confused!
  13. Apples daily spelling drills works on rules to spelling. There are two volumes http://www.rainbowresource.com/search.php?sid=1269463199-1227641
  14. My advice might go against what you have been getting, but here it goes. Dont be concerned so much with being "ahead", "behind" or "on schedule", instead be concerned with "are my kids retaining the info being taught". This is my 2nd year homeschooling. The first half of my first year was horrible because I was so affraid that my kids were "behind". I made them do too much. Start slowly so its not overwhelming for you and your kids. Then as you get comfortable together, do more, then more until you are comforable with the days routine. If you have to go a little longer in the summer the first year, thats ok. My kids are far above where they would be in any public school (as Im sure ALL homeschoolers are) so just take this first year slow! Get used to each other (you as the teacher and your kids as the students!) Its amazing when you slow down and take baby steps! It is such a rewarding job! Dont stress yourself out!
  15. Spelling power is a great program that is multi sensory, goes at the child own pace and is not overwhelming. It can be found used relativly inexpensive and the best part is it is a program that you start in elementary school and it takes you right through high school. So once you purchase they book you do not have to purchase another for many many years!
  16. We switched from Abeka (:willy_nilly:) To BJU english () and now to Rod and Staff. I realllllllllllllllly like Rod and Staff! You can check out samples at their website! Its a very good program, and has really good oral review also!
  17. What time do your kids go to bed? And what ages are they? Do you allow your older kids to stay up longer? If you chose more than 1 answer, please explain (if you dont mind)! Thanks
  18. I am checking that out now! (she is groaning, its 10:20pm I told her to go to bed :) lol) thanks
  19. I actually have been doing the spelling power method with other words and love it! i also like the spelling bee idea! She does too! Thanks so much!
  20. The world book encyclopedia has a great scope and sequence to help you! I will have a 7th grader next year. I have *most* of the rest of her school figured out (until I find something I like better :001_huh: lol) http://www.worldbook.com/typical_course_of_study.html If you want ideas let me know! I am always willing to share!
  21. Thank you! Now I dont feel so bad to be starting her now! She was chatting with my mother in law and doing finger typing. Time for a change LOL! I will check those programs out! Thanks so much!
  22. Hi I am looking for recommendations for a typing program for my 6th grader. Also I know I am starting her late, what grade do you start? I have a daughter that will be in 3rd next year. Is that to soon?
  23. Spelling Power is really good for that. The lists are based on the rules. If you couple that with apples daily spelling drills it works soooo well! (Dont do the apples book in order, do the pages that cooralate to the spelling rule you are in in spelling power
