  1. Thank you Amy! I was hoping you'd chime in! I like the "walk me through it" idea as well. This helps me in my planning for next year.
  2. Thank you ladies! I really love the look of flexibility in Biblioplan but definitely want the structure of a good english/composition study and MFW sounds good. I will go and check the yahoo group suggestion!
  3. Hello Ladies! I have just recently been introduced to Biblioplan and am very interested in making it work for my coming 9th, 7th and 4th grade children. My question is whether using MFW's Ancient Hist Lit Supplement for high school with Biblioplan's Ancients could work. Have any of you effectively done this? If so, how did you incorporate the 2? Or, are there other literature/grammar programs out there that would mesh well with Biblioplan's ancient history? Thank you!
  4. Hi! I'm reposting this question from over on parent's board. I want to lead a Scrabble/word games class in our coop this spring. It will be for 10 weeks at an hour per week. I wanted to get the right age group for this. What would you gals recommend?? Our class ranges are 6-8(yo), 9-11, 12-14 and 15 +. Thank you for any help!
  5. Hello all. I am considering leading a scrabble club/word games type class at our co-op this spring and was wondering if any of you could tell me what age would be most appropriate for this. Given an hour each week, for 10 weeks, it isn't a huge amount of time, so I wanted to ensure that I geared it toward the right age group. Have any of you done anything like this?? Any comments surely appreciated!
  6. Hello! We haven't done any official logic study yet and are wanting to begin with my soon to be 8th grader. She has done some building thinking skills type stuff. Do you have any recommendations for beginning this very important discipline? I myself never learned formal logic in school (PS) or college and am lacking myself. We need help !! I also have a 6th and 3rd grader that will need to learn as well. Are there some good sources for this age group to get them thinking logically?? Thank you ,smart forum people!!
  7. Hello ! I'm trying to figure out some things about IEW and was hoping some of you could help. First, I will have an 8th, 6th and 3rd grader for this upcoming year. Our writing has been hit and miss as far as being a real success with the kiddos. I'm interested in knowing if IEW is something I can begin with my 8th grader, (does it begin where you are or do you have to have prerequisite learning to start) also, for my 3rd grader who has no formal writing experience, would WWE be a better fit beforehand? If so, which level would you suggest? I guess Im looking at the start up price and wanting to be wise in my investment. Also, is it a must to watch the Teaching Writing: Structure and Style? (I think I know the answer but wanted to be certain) :) As you can see, I have never seen or spoken to anyone who has used this program- but find it highly recommended -and am hoping to get some kindly feedback!
  8. :) Thank you ladies- just what I was hoping to hear!
  9. Hello all- I am simply wanting to know if one has to do the levels in order, do you need to do each one, each level in order?? For instance, if I began with K-3 book 1, do I need to complete books 2 and 3 before moving onto 4-6 book 1? I will have an 11 year old learning and she has no formal or basic art concept knowledge. ( I will have an 8 yo learning as well) Does this apply for JR HI level too?? thanks so much....
  10. Thank you ladies- wonderful ideas. I believe part of the problem has been that she just has made up her mind to NOT like science- who knows why. I can see that going a more relaxed, reading, notebooking and experimenting route may be the answer. Merry- is there a scope/sequence or plan of order of study you implement with your 6th grader or does she just pick a topic of interest and go for it from there??
  11. Hello! I have to admit I'm frustrated at not finding a science program that fits my science-avoiding daughter. Do any of you have good suggestions for a program/curriculum that is good at drawing in and keeping attention?? My daughter is 12 (7th) and I know will be entering the heavier science years very soon. We are currently using Abeka. She really dreads it each day and I was hoping to find something that would be better suited for her with hands on learning as well. I know that sometimes you just have to learn the stuff you don't enjoy-but was hoping it could be a little bit more user friendly.
  12. I would add: Friendly Persuasion Persuasion Emma (PBS version) Bleak House (PBS) Pride and Prejudice Sergeant York Luther Chariots of Fire Les Miserables (Liam Neeson) Come what May So many more but can't list now...
  13. Crystal- wow, what a great response. Would it be too late to start the art program this year, as we would repeat the cycle with my younger two kiddos???
  14. Hello! I am interested in using this next year for my 13 and 12 yoc. I really haven't seen much review/comments on it and was wondering if anyone could tell me what they liked or didn't about it. I will also have an 8 turning 9yo joining in as well. I realize some of it wouldn't be appropriate for his age, so will use with discretion. I don't know if its just that not many have used it, or if it just is too new to have much discussion. Also, we didn't use year 4 MFW to lead up to -but another American history program. Will not having done that year's state/president sheets be a big problem if we just jump in? Thank you for any advice or recommendations!!
