  1. We do science and history daily, we do geography M,W&F and health Tu & Thurs. I had thought about doing world history together, and started with SOTW but that was way below my 6th graders level. Maybe I will start doing MOH with both of them. Any thoughts on that being too hard for a 2nd grader? Sahamama--I do LOVE the workboxes idea and am going to get some sort of system like that going!!! Thank You for that suggestion!! My 5 year old really doesnt do alot. He tells me when he wants to "do school" and then we do it until he is ready to go play. Sometimes 5 mins a day sometimes 25 mins a say but not alot. And my 4 year old doesnt do anything. (except the occasionaly letter people DVD-- he LOVES those) Any suggestions for streamlining? Im open for suggestions!!!!
  2. Ohhh-- also there are abunch of sections that you do need the TE for. The only directions given are Listen to the instructions your teacher gives you.
  3. My daughter is doing Abeka 2nd grade this year along with Singapore. Abeka is way to easy for her. I like the spiral that Abeka is but Its just not working for us! We are switching to Singapore and Horizons next year for 3rd grade.
  4. I am really struggling to get everything done. We do alot, but I dont know what I can cut out! Any suggestions? Thanks
  5. We also do spelling power, and I ordered Apples daily spelling drills. I love that book! I highly recommend it to anybody doing spelling power! You would not do apples in order, but do the work sheets of the rule you are on in spelling power! Its great reinforcement!!!! Apples comes in two volumes. So far I only have volume 1 but I can not wait to get vol. 2!!!
  6. Last year my daughter was in 5th grade, she did BJU 5th grade, that 20th century America. She LOVED that. My now 2nd grader will be doing that in 4th because i have changed things up a little and she will do ALL American History vol 1 in 5th. But we ALSO do world history. They will be up to modern times by then But I have to see how that will fit together before I make that decision! I do know alot of 5th grade history curricula do new world history (that is explorers to N America) and that is the 1st half of All American History
  7. If you are also in need of something that teaches spelling rules at that grade level (that can go hand in hand with pronunciation-) Apples daily spelling drills vol 1 & vol 2 is a good program to go with.
  8. WOW!!!! I am LOVING these ideas!!! Keep them coming!!!!!
  9. OK, I am looking for ways to add fun into our school day. We do enjoy what we are doing, but is there anything you do to spice things up that you would be willing to share?? Thanks! I have a preschooler, 2nd grader, 6th grader this year Next year Preschooler, Kindergarten, 3rd and 7th
  10. Sounds great!!!! Sounds like what Im looking for!! Thanks so much!!!!!!:)
  11. This truly sums it up in a nutshell!!! When we aren't in "school" how many times do we still find teachable moments and do it?!?! In our house that is all the time and I imagine that is with all homeschoolers!!!!!
  12. We do our school schedule based on my husbands work days. Before he lost his job we had tuesday through saturday, mornings or evenings. That depended on when he left for work. He worked 15 hours then got 8-10 off then worked another 15 he did that 5 days a week, so our school schedule was very wacky. Now that he has been unemployed since dec we have gotten onto a more traditional schedule (for the most part) but he will be starting a new job monday  so our schedule will definatly be changing! Oh also we do school year round. We have a regular school year schedule, ending in june or july (august last year, hoping for june this year) but do math all year and other enrichment type things (reading, tons of field trips, nature walks, we live near rushmore so we go there for lessons, etc)
  13. We started this year out AWESOME... getting done in 3-4 hours (that for us is astounding!) Since the year has progressed... its been taking longer  and longer :glare: and longer :willy_nilly:and looonger  and longer  and longer :banghead: to the point I wonder if I just imagined 3-4 hours :grouphug:
  14. I had thought about just starting with 3rd. I might do that Im just throwing ideas around right now. She is excited to start 3rd grade horizons. We do have all of her next years math.... I am going to look into mammoth also, maybe that with her 3rd grade? I really want to get her doing well with the mental math before going onto 3rd though....
  15. What would you recommend for a summer math program? My daughter is in 2nd grade and will have finished singapore 2A & 2B and Abeka 2(abeka was too easy for her. We will be switching to singapore and horizons next year.) I do have math games already but I still want workbook type math for 2-3 days a week during the summer so she stays in practice. She is one that if she doesnt do it for awhile she does forget. I have found that out from taking our few weeks off for a break. Im looking for something with lots of mental math practice because she is struggling with singapores mental math:banghead:. I do have worksheets from the singapore TE but you can only do the same ones so much. Any advice would be great! Thanks
  16. I wont do it! They can not force you out and if they try find another! My kids do better with me. I dont want my kids by a man they hardly know alone! Not going to happen in todays world!!!!
  17. Can you explain to me how the bibloplan works??? What grades is it recommended for? I have 2 kids on the same time period but 1 in 6th and 1 in 2nd. Could I do it together with them? Do you like it? Not like it? Thanks for your help! Oh and what resources do I need for it???
  18. My daughters love it! They retain 95% of what they have learned. Personally for our family it works great! We get the worldy wise 300 2nd edition. I LOVE how all the words are on the back cover so I can test for retention! We do lapbooks with our words the first & 2nd days of the week so maybe that helps with the retention? My kids love the workbook exercises. For our family its great! Guess it all depends on your kids!
  19. :cursing::banghead:I just think drs today don't care. I had my 11 year old in for EXTREME stomach cramping, to the point she was in the fetal position crying. Had her in the ER 3X in our little town. Finally got tired of the dr saying its menstral cramps (she is not even close to starting-- thats obvious by looking at her, puberty hasnt started.) so we took her to a bigger town (the next closest) an hour and a half away. Found out she was almost to the point of emergency surgery from a SEVERE bowel blockage. :cursing: The drs in our town did not do ANY tests on her. We also have no insurance. We are in the process of appealing at the state level to not pay for the visits in our town. Had we not taken her when we did to the other hospital she would have started vomiting her own bowels.
