  1. Horizons is a spiral program like saxon so that might be a good fit! Just a thought I dont know what suggestions you had before!
  2. Spelling and writing I highly recommend Spelling Power.(elementary through high school) look into it. You can find it used for very cheap! ($15-25) they have task cards but you dont have to use them because it gives you samples of those right in the book. You can use the samples and go from there! You dont have to buy their student records book because it gives you a sample if the book and you can either make your own, or just use the sample 10 step page in the book (just mentally check off the steps and write the word before and after on a separate sheet of paper. Writing just give her a topic a day, have her write 10 minutes a day and stop. (4 days a wk) the 5th day have her choose 1 and edit and proofread and add any details then publish. Or you can go to www.everydayspelling.com (I believe thats the website) and get free spelling lists ( I would do the spelling power 10 step with that, if you want to know what that is PM me!) You said she loves history (dont remember what you said about science) have her read real books, living books, biographies and historical fictions for those two subjects (you learn SOOO much more than from a boring text book-- that is how my kids do most of their science and history and they are well above "grade level" in those areas. Language (english) look at the local library and ask the librarian to help you locate books to help (they have them, just not always right where you would expect them!) Math you can go to www.coolmath.com, and also the library has books to help from elementary- high school for math!!! You can homeschool for next to free! I just takes a little digging! PM me if you want more suggestions! We dont have alot of money, my husband is looking for work, I have a ton of ideas for you!!!!!!! Let me know! And relax!!!! Dont stress over it!

  13. Right now we have 54. The library gives homeschoolers more than allowed normally... and we have 5 cards. The only one that doesnt have one is my 4 year old son
  14. We are going on 2 years of being unplugged! I dont miss any of the hassle! Dont miss TV one bit! We do occasionally do movies... generally 1 a night and 95% of the time educational and we watch them as a family after dinner before bed. It has really brought us much closer together and the kids are learning much more!!!!
  15. I bring my kids and we just load up. Our library stretches the limit for homeschoolers and since we live in a very small town they know who we all are.... last I checked I had 54 out total on all of our cards put together:confused:.... we use ALOT of library books but generally dont get more than 8 or 10 at a time.
  16. What curriculum do you use for ea subject??? Just curious? What do you and dont you like?? What curriculum have you tried that you just hated and why????
  17. Thanks so much!!!! I was in a panic but guess I shouldnt be yet!!!!!!!!:001_smile::)
  18. :confused:I am going to do a few reading comp worktexts, (mostly non fiction oriented) Is there a good reading curriculum that isnt just "fluff" but actually teaches? :confused:We have done Abeka and Pathways but I am looking for something more! Any and all suggestions welcome! Thanks

  20. We are doing abeka in 2nd grade and will be switching to horizons and singapore next year. Abeka is way to easy for my daughter, she is very mathematical. Horizons progresses quicker in certain areas. She can not wait she is very bored with abeka.
  21. A 3rd grader would do great with just living books, historical fictions and biographies about American History and the people influential to american history! Look into it! Most of that is readily available at the local library! Get a scope and sequence from worldbook.com and have fun with it!
  22. Find a curriculum better fit to her. Look into spelling power. Its very fun, hands on and not overwhelming and goes completely at the childs pace. I would look into bob jones or R&S englishl. They are more spiral oriented and not overwhelming!:)
  23. I am a total curriculum junkie... I cant stop. The rainbow resource catalog is my fix, along with my huge and growing stacks of others! My poor husband gets to read all my finds!
  24. We do math all year long but during school breaks we take a break from our regular math curriculum and do real life or real world math. We do alot of nature hikes in the summer & the kids compile a nature notebook, learning about local plants, animal, insects, trees & leaves and dont realize we are doing "school work" because they are having fun! We go rock climbing and talk about geology. Make summer a fun time of learning! :)
