  1. I'm using Memoria Press Geography I with my 7th grader. I believe they schedule into their packages curriculum for 4th grade. It covers Europe, North Africa, and Middle East and reviews states and capitals in the back. Their Geography 2 covers Africa, Asia, Australia, and Antarctica. The second book isn't up for sale on the website yet, but they are good about selling the Beta products if you contact them. We'll be using it next year. It is very straightforward and only takes a couple of minutes a day.
  2. Mine's up. Not quite inspiring though. ;)
  3. Just got mine up. Had I not seen this thread, I would have forgotten to type it up this week!
  4. My 7th grade ds is using First Start French for 7th and 8th grade and would like to study 4 years of French in high school. I would really like him to take an online, interactive class. I know there is TPS, but I would prefer to use a different text. Are there any other classes out there for French 1-4? TIA
  5. My toddler sleeps in his own bed from 7 until sometime between midnight and 2am when he wakes up and wants to come curl up in my bed. He is a restless sleeper and some nights it makes me slightly nuts. But it is less work to pull him into my bed and deal with the squirming than it is to settle him back down in his own bed in the middle of the night. :tongue_smilie: I don't have to worry about him falling off the bed though because when we made the decision to full time cosleep with ds2, I talked dh into ditching the bed frame and putting the mattress directly on the floor. It is only terrible when I am 9 months pregnant and need to get up in the middle of the night. Could you put a twin mattress on the floor next to your bed for him? Or maybe for you and ds, or even for dh and ds if your dh sleeps better while being kicked in the head by a toddler. ;) Then you could transition him to sleeping there by himself.
  6. My ds5 has passed his doll down to my toddler, one of the 11" little friend dolls. They don't carry the exact one anymore, but there are still three boy dolls to choose from. They also sell pajamas and a change of clothes. It is expensive and it isn't supposed to be put in the wash because it is stuffed with wool (but we did anyway and it survived).
  7. Thanks for sharing. I am hopeful that ds5 will stop mixing d and b as he writes more frequently, but I am bookmarking this just in case.
  8. This is how I am handling it also. Ds writes about half of the problems and I write the rest. He loves MM, but gets frustrated when he has to write too much. SWB tells us to keep phonics and writing separate at this age because our dc are often capable of reading before they have the motor skills to write a lot. I believe the same holds true for math skills.
  9. Mine's up. http://thepathwetravel.blogspot.com/2011/10/week-in-review-1014.html
  10. Ds was enrolled in MAVA last year and had study island assignments. He didn't play the games, just took the tests until he passed them and then moved onto the next test. If he was stuck on a concept I would sit down and teach it to him. He often came across math that they hadn't covered yet in their math program. Would it go better/quicker if you read the passages aloud?
  11. I voted history, reading, and language arts, but that is only partially true. He does do most of his history on his own, but we do discuss it at least once a week. In language arts he does vocab and writing(for the most part) himself, but we do grammar together. Right now we aren't doing any particular literature study. He is reading Dracula for fun. I do have a list of books that we will actively discuss together, which will be spread throughout the year. He is also doing math on his own. I will be teaching him as we get further into the book or if he hits any snags along the way. This year has been mostly review so far.
  12. My ds will be 13 in November and he is in 7th.
  13. Court today...What time should I head to the airport?
  14. Yay! I'm not the only one with an entire pinboard dedicated to Nutella! http://pinterest.com/mrobyn/nutella-deliciousness/
  15. Gevalia at home, Starbucks when I'm out
  16. I just came across this post tonight. I am on my way out the door in just a few minutes to RCIA class. :D
  17. We have a lot of hits this year too: ALL and WWS Sadlier Vocab MP Geography I and First Form Latin In fact the only flops we have had were some of my K-er's books being either over his head or too easy and that was a quick fix. So far, so good.
  18. You're not being paranoid. We have a hard tile kitchen floor and my climbing toddler spent a morning in the ER with a concussion last month when he fell off a kitchen chair. At least he has since decided that he doesn't really need to stand on the kitchen table after all. :001_huh: They also sell straps for kitchen chairs. Although it is probably easier to just put them in the garage if you don't use them anyway.
  19. Looks like I couldn't have had a better person respond to my question! I do not like science and it is the first subject that I let slide every single year. Funny too, the other option I am considering is Kolbe. But more in depth is only good if it actually gets done. They don't give us an option for honors in physical science here, but they do for Biology. I may get the text and plans from Kolbe and supplement. Although they might add an honors option by the spring. We won't start the class until summer/fall. Thanks for your help. I'll definitely be interested to see how the bio class is going later in the year.
  20. Thanks Melissa. I wonder if the other high school sciences are the same way. I suppose we could supplement with Labpaqs in the upper grades, but I was hoping it would be included. I like the idea of a text only because then I could get a feel for the program ahead of time. He does not mind reading online. Is your dd enjoying the course? Is it challenging?
  21. We are actually in NH, but the VLACS here bought their curriculum from Florida Virtual and when I do a board search, it seems there is no one with any experience with the VLACS classes. I am looking at this for next year for ds who will be in 8th. Do they use a text, or is the reading all online? It is listed as a high school course, are there actual labs and do they send any equipment? I'm hesitant to use this because I can't find that much information about it, but I would love to outsource the high school sciences and it would be really nice to be able to use the free courses.
  22. If I ever manage to have a daughter ;), I would love to name her Katherine, Kate for a nickname. My grandmother was Kay and I know someone who is Trin.
