  1. If you couldn't get one at Target (the lines here were unreal last night), Apple is having a sale online today. The 8GB is $178, free shipping and engraving.
  2. I cut off the stem end with a knife. It is really too much work though and I have been buying them frozen.:tongue_smilie:
  3. So I won't worry about my pies making a three hour car ride tomorrow without a cooler.
  4. Mine will go out over the next couple of weeks. If I ever get these Jesse Tree ornaments done, that is...;)
  5. I use this recipe when I am looking for something a little different and it is always a hit Crunchy Carmel Apple Pie
  6. Ds earned his black belt in TKD and is now studying karate and Filipino stick fighting. Taekwondo was a positive experience and the main reason we did not continue when we moved was simply that there is no school within convenient driving range of our new home. Now that he is studying a different martial art however, he is enjoying the change. He feels that what he was learning in his TKD classes was sport, and in this new school he is learning more self defense.
  7. I don't even know where to start looking at kayaks. :D I am going to have to ask around. Kayaking is very popular in this area(we moved here over the summer), but I have never tried it myself. Ds kayaks at summer camp. A video camera is a good idea. Ds steals my camera frequently and uses it to make videos.
  8. My ds turns 13 next week. He wants a mountain bike and a kayak. He's begging for a display sword and/or a wooden practice sword. I haven't decided yet how I feel about that.
  9. I have ours up. Rough week with littles and the time change!
  10. :iagree: My younger boys are out of sorts this week. My 5 year old went to bed last night sobbing because my toddler shut off the timer while they were brushing their teeth. :glare:
  11. I was so disappointed when Jericho was canceled. I didn't know about the graphic novels. I will have to look for them.
  12. My youngest is walking so... not as frequently as I used to. I shoot for once a week for the kitchen, once every other for the wood floors. That doesn't actually happen anymore. I have always gone barefoot in the house, but since we've moved out of the city, I have taken to wearing slippers. My boys track in a constant stream of dirt from the backyard. Since I can't feel every crumb under my feet now, I have lowered my standards considerably.
  13. I firmly denied snoring, until dh recorded me one night with the camcorder. :tongue_smilie: I still say he's worse!
  14. There are supposed to be 7 books by the time it is done. But he took a long time to write Dance with Dragons, so I am not holding my breath for the next one to come out anytime soon. Dance got too long, so some of it was set aside for the next book, so at least he has a jump on it.
  15. :D You mean it's not just my ds? He tends to make the lesson more complicated than it really is and then he has to redo it correctly on top of that. He'll learn sooner or later!
  16. Ds5 is just finishing the addition section in 1A this week, so we haven't completed very much of 1 yet. The oral drill he was able to work out in his head after seeing it on the worksheet for a a couple of pages. We did use some of the base ten cubes as counters in the beginning. Now he can "see" the amounts in his head when he does the oral drill. Ds12 is supplementing with Percents from the Blue series. He struggles a bit with math, but Math Mammoth makes sense to him with minimal help from me. He is doing BCM right now, but I am going to stop when we hit the Algebra chapter and have him work through MM 6A-6B. Last year was a complete wash in math(K12 and Saxon).
  17. I tried natural deodorant and it didn't work for me. I heard my body would adjust, but it didn't and eventually I had to go out in public again. :D I haven't used shampoo in two months. I keep an old shampoo bottle filled with water and a Tbsp of baking soda in the shower. I use it about every three days, no vinegar rinse. I have (had) oily hair and after the 4th week or so, my hair got pretty gross. But I stuck it out and it did adjust. I rinse the boys' hair with water and use a little bar soap if they get something sticky in it. My oldest uses soap or just water and my husband shaves his head, so he doesn't need shampoo either. We cloth diaper, so I only use cloth wipes, just wet, no soap. It does the job. When my middle ds was healing from a burn from a hot cup of tea, the surgeon told me to use a gentle soap on his skin and he specifically said to avoid J&J.
  18. I have pics of the kids in costume up here. My Spiderman wouldn't wear his mask and has a fat lip. And yes, that's snow in the background.
  19. We ended up putting it aside after the first couple of weeks. The readings made my (newly 5yo)ds' eyes glaze over. I just think he wasn't ready for it and we will likely come back to it next year in 1st.
  20. Oh no. We'll definitely have to get a generator then. It's too late for his storm, so I'll just have my fingers crossed. We love NH so far, but we haven't experienced winter up here yet!
  21. We moved to NH over the summer. I'm starting to wonder if that was such a good idea. ;) I don't even own boots. My dh is laughing at me. He wants snow so he can ski. I am not looking forward to trekking through snow banks to go trick or treating! :glare:
  22. We were at a pool party this summer and my toddler raced into the pool, fully intent on drowning himself:tongue_smilie:. My husband went in after him and realized a minute later that his iPhone was in his pocket. When he explained what happened at the Apple store, they took pity on him (maybe they have kids) and gave him a free replacement.
  23. I downloaded the Henty books to my Kindle from Project Gutenberg. My ds12 loves them.
