  1. http://dannyktapestry.com/ I have a couple of these. The tote (which isn't huge at all). Also have the Maggie purse. iPad fits in the large middle section, wallet in the zippered side and pockets on the open side for phone and other items. Quality is great. Fabrics are beautiful. Val
  2. Forgot to add.. I would think that iSwifter or one of the other browsers that supports Flash would allo you to use Rosetta Stone.
  3. They have an iPad app. I havent used it, but you should be able to get info about it on their site or through the app store. Val
  4. Unless you can plan and have the wedding BEFORE he leaves in 19 days, I would not commit to any date. My son is in AF Basic Training right now. They have already had a couple guys in their flight or their brother flight get washed back a week or two for various reasons. Stuff happens (illness, injury, mistakes) and the dates can fluctuate. There is no time in between basic and technical school usually. We are hoping (but not counting) on our son getting to participate in the RAP (Recruiter Assistance Program). They are supposed to get the information on that during technical school and if they get it, they get to come home for 10-12 days after technical school. During that time, they spend 5 days in the recruiter's office helping out, visiting schools, etc.. and the rest of the time is theirs. After that, he will be shipping out to wherever his duty station is. So, nice small wedding with family and close friends... doable within the 19 days. Otherwise, they really should wait until he's settled in his first assignment. Best of luck! Valerie
  5. No guilt here. I collect Santas and have them all over the place during Christmas. It's fun, doesn't hurt anyone and my kids have known the real reason for the season since they were little.
  6. Married just after I turned 19 to my dh who was 21 and had just graduated from Air Force Basic Training and his Technical School. We have been married 23 years. One of the best things for us was that his first assignment was Japan. It forced us to be close and figure a lot of thing out on our own without family support and/or interference. It has worked great for us! Val
  7. I believe they have a couple plans. ($15 and $25 I think) The nice thing is you can turn off and on as needed. I don't because I was able to get an unlimited plan early on and NEVER want to lose it.

  9. Same here. I have to say "similar', take a breath and add "ly":glare: Drives me nuts! I'm also from southern Maryland, so tend to add an "r" to wash. :001_huh:
  10. We started doing this last year with my husband's family. It was great. We set a limit on the amount you are supposed to spend. A lot of ours went something along the lines of a pair of movie tickets and then a basket full of treats, small LED clip-on light and iTunes gift cards, a popular book and a gift card to a book store. I found a lot of interesting items at Costco and then paired with gift cards. Most in the family did the same. The youngest kid we have among us is 16, so everyone played. Lots of fun. 3 take limit and first picker gets to pick last. I've started looking out of interesting items. It really made Christmas easier for all of us. We spent more time just visiting and the game was a small portion of our day. Last year was a test year. We all loved it and will definitely do again. Val
  11. Just a quick FYI - Farmville is available on the iPad as an app through the app store. Another option is iSwifter. It's an app that is designed to allow you to interact with flash games - especially the Facebook games and recently, the Google+ games. I also view flash videos on the Skyfire browser. I was annoyed with the flash thing at first, but it really has not been an issue for me since I discovered the apps listed above. :-) Val
  12. E-mail, reading (I've done much more reading since getting the iPad), surfing the net, Facebook, creating documents, creating newsletters/fliers (for my job), editing photos, FaceTime (video chatting), etc. The iPad is very relaxing for me. I would never buy water colors or other paints, but with the iPad, I can just sit and paint, doodle or experiment. I've tried some animation with other apps and experimented with color with others. I've created pottery with Pottery HD (granted, it's a game, but a wonderful experience from shaping the pot to firing to painting). LetterMpress has let me experience an old fashioned printing press. This was pretty cool for me because both my father and grandfather worked in the printing industry and I have pics of both setting type on the older machines. The British Library has a great app called the 19th Century Collection. I've enjoyed checking out some of the books there. I've brushed up on my Algebra with Algebra Touch, looked at great recipes on Epicurious, AllRecipes and Big Oven. Entered my own recipes into Paprika. I could go on and on and on. I didn't even begin to cover the games. I love my iPad and my husband loves my old iPad (he's not allowed to bring one to work, so the 1st generation works great for him). My ONLY complaint is that I am truly an appoholic and need a 12-step program. :-) Val
  13. My dh puts in many hours over the regular 40. Sometimes, it's just 10, but many weeks it's more than 20. He usually has something to work on almost every evening and also on weekends. He's in the tech industry and it's just the way it is. It's competitive. He also know that if he doesn't, there is someone out there looking to take his place. He works for a good company and the salary is great, but the extra hours are just a fact of life. Always has been for him. In addition to working extra hours, he also take it upon himself to always be learning something. He has his Master's and all the coursework done on a PhD, but is also taking other courses. Have to remain competitive. Val
  14. Think this article might help: http://www.148apps.com/news/ios-5-icloud-itunes-setup-icloud-multiple-device-family/ Val
  15. Make sure you get a sturdy case. The glass on the front will break if dropped. Otterbox makes very sturdy cases for both the iPhone and iPad. We have two iPads. I have the new one and my husband has my original iPad. He isn't able to take iPhones or iPads into his workplace, so he's fine having the older version. I will probably get the new one that comes out this spring. At that point, the two boys left at home will get to share the original and my husband will get the one I have now. I considered getting our three boys iPads for Christmas last year - and will probably consider again this year. Val
  16. Is it The Long Walk? http://www.goodreads.com/book/show/9013.The_Long_Walk
  17. LOL! We love Flight of the Conchords here. I definitely think this is the PC police gone too far. Good grief.
  18. Big HUGS! My son will be leaving in November. It has been a very long battle. When he leaves it will be two months shy of two years from when we entered the recruiter's office. He went to MEPS in January (after a big struggle to get him cleared - bone infection when he was 8) and he just got the call a couple weeks ago. I know it's going to hit me hard, but it has been awful watching him in this limbo waiting for approval, then waiting for a job/slot. He is so ready to go. He needs to go through the transformation that happens in basic. I feel for you and am sending hugs! Val
  19. Quick note about the movie for Snowflower and the Secret Fan. I really loved that book. What worries me about the movie is that they seem to have added an entire storyline set in modern times. ???? It seems to me that they always have a hard enough time fitting a book into the time allotted to a movie. Why in the world would they add another story? You can see the trailer at the link below: http://trailers.apple.com/trailers/fox_searchlight/snowflowerandthesecretfan/ The movie for The Help really surprised me with how closely it stuck to the book. Yes there are some changes, but nothing that took away for the overall story. I do think that most of the changes were do to time constraints rather than just a Hollywood thing. The actresses were amazing. Definitely did not regret seeing the movie. :-) Valerie
  20. This is the start to one of my favorite series. I love the way King writes. I feel completely emerged in the scene. Holmes if fabulous, Russell is great. I've read the series a few times now. Hope you enjoy the book. I'm currently reading Jaycee Duggard's Stolen Life. Valerie
  21. App Advice just put up a iPad apps guide for hobbies. One listed was Novel in 30. Here's the link: http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/novel-in-30/id439604500?mt=8 Haven't used it. Hope it helps. Val
  22. The last year my son was in youth football, we had to obtain a state issued id. It's for age and residency verification. The youth sports can get really competitive around here. Middle school aged kids are looking to get private school scholarships for sports. I've actually found that high school sports are less stressful than youth football was.
  23. With the iPad in Landscape mode, you'll have the list of contacts on the left and the information of whichever contact you've selected on the right. At the bottom of the right hand screen, there is an Edit buttion. Click that. You'll see several areas that you can add information... including a green plus sign button to "add new address". Click on that and you'll have the address field to enter info into. Hope this helps.
  24. Do you not like the one that comes with it? It's called Contacts. I've used it for years on my Mac and it was easy to use on the iPad. I have all of our addresses, phone and emails for friends and family. Val
  25. My son broke a large chunk off of one of his teeth over spring break. He was not in any pain, so we did not go that same day, but saw a dentist a couple days later. Unfortunately for my son, because of the way the tooth broke off in the back (part we could not see), it was less than a millimeter from the nerve and he had to have a root canal and a crown. Call around. See if someone will work with you. I know that our dentist does have a payment plan option. You don't want to wait long because it could become infected and cause greater issues. Best of luck.
