  1. I was inducted into the Psi Upsilon Chapter of the Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society of Nursing last night. Yay me. 🙂

  2. Apples and Pears level C dictation, lesson 37:

    Quote

Mark threw away his jumper when the cat sprayed on it.

Apples and Pears (and Dancing Bears FastTrack) definitely have some interesting lines-I assume it’s because they are designed to be used for remediation for older kids.

You have some great snakes, too-but I'd be a little nervous about some of them...

  5. I get to meet Richard Rusczyk tonight. I have a mad crush on him!

DD practically tackled him for his autograph a few years ago. :)

  6. Having a pity party upon realizing that of the 8 "core" courses for my 1st BA in psychology 2 decades ago, I took 7 (only needed 5 to graduate) but the 8th, Perception, is the one my target grad program wants. I can take it as part of the master's but it will add to the cost :-(

Can you do it at a local, cheaper school and transfer it separately? Or online somewhere that doesn't charge out of state tuition for online classes? Unless you get an TA or RA post, undergrad tuition is usually less than graduate tuition.

  7. HIdden costs of dual enrollment: It's really easy to stop by the bakery for a croissant after dropping her off for classes.

I got a library card and am trying to hang out there (not worth it to go home). So far, so good...

  8. So but really, was 2016 THAT BAD?!

This was a bungee cord year, with lots of changes and transitions and "oops, never mind". I will say that I will be relieved once tomorrow passes. We have had a lot of family crisis happen at/between Christmas and New Years.

  9. Why can't high school biology be enjoyable and not quite so technical?

    1. Dmmetler

      Dmmetler

My DD's bio mentor says high school and lower division college bio is the way to make sure not too many people get to the fun part of biology. He's encouraged me to have DD, basically, go backwards-do organismal bio first, and then move into the more traditional molecular/cellular bio. We're also going to try to have her take the CLEP test with an eye towards hopefully getting placed out of the lower bio and into microbiology, A&P, and other more specialized classes.

  10. Has anyone studied the correlation between application season and premature graying?

  11. Too much Harry Potter? A friend asked ds about his science for next year (chemistry) and he called it Potions!

      Dmmetler

I'm tempted to make Harry Potter book covers for DD's books...hmm...

  12. Quiz: why would you find an almost completely eaten apple core saved carefully in a bowl in the fridge?

    1. Dmmetler

      Dmmetler

We get a lot of empty boxes taking up space on shelves. The usual justification is "it's not empty". I somehow don't think a half dozen scattered Cheerios make a serving.

It's tough to stand back and let them do it-no matter how old they are (and it's even harder when they're by far the youngest person in the room)

  15. I had an ultrasound today (11/10). 8 weeks, 2 days. It's a blob.

  16. One of my son's mentors is obnoxiously attractive. I feel ridiculous, but it is very hard to focus during our meetings sometimes.

DD had a male tumbling coach who was watched avidly by both pre-teen girls (and the older team girls) and moms. I guess that's a side effect of being a college-age male gymnast with the hair and face of a actor...

  17. Trying to register ds for the SAT but College Board wants the registration number from when he took it three years ago as a 12yo. Off to dig through the papers that I "keep meaning to get organized." We should not have waited until the last day to register!

    1. Dmmetler

      Dmmetler

So they need the registration number, for a score that was purged at the end of the year? Good to know-DD10 is taking the SAT tomorrow, and I wouldn't have thought about needing that number when she's in high school!

  18. Crazy cats. They had perfectly good kibble in their bowl. But no, they are going to And once I poured the kibble from the bowl into another bowl......well, hallalujah they are fed and they start eating.

    1. Dmmetler

      Dmmetler

Mine will complain that the bowl is empty when the center of the dish is bare, but there's a lot of of food around the edges. Pick it up, redistribute the kibble, and there you go.
