  1. How much does a 1 year course ( school year ie Spanish 1) cost with this company? I looked at the website but wasn't sure.
  2. Reading all this has made me really glad that my dds won't be involved in all this. I've talked to a number of parents who were thinking of having their child drop a difficult, challenging class as it would affect their GPA and class ranking. I think it is sad that the child can't just take the class that is best for his education, and must consider things like this.
  3. Duct tape is supposed to be as good as anything. Our Dr told us it was because if causes a low grade irritation at the site which causes the bodies immune system to kick in and get rid of it.
  4. We use Human Odyssey but not the teacher guide etc. My dd reads the chapter, we discuss, she does one of the maps in the chapter using a map I print off, outlines a section, and fills in her time line. It's worked really well for us, and history has become one of her favorite subjects. We've had lots of great discussions.
  5. Just want to agree with others that the practice books really help it to come together. Also, I think you can start with the Town level, that's what we did and it worked fine. I really like the way you get to see the whole picture so quickly with MCT, and then you carry on practicing - works great for us.
  6. Thanks for the suggestions, I'll look at them.
  7. What you say is completely true - however I have to admit that my kids have learned the most grammar from that "slim and meaningless volume" than from anything else. Crazy but true. We just do the town level, but boy does it set out the whole thing so you can see where you're going.
  8. Just wondering - could it be used as an elective - 0.5 credit and called something not geography or art?
  9. Thank you for this information. Would you mind saying which model you got?
  10. Just trying again - any specific recommendations?
  11. I think that the risk of aortic aneurysm is higher with Marfans syndrome and that may be something that needs to be monitored. Not sure if it is something that can be checked for once or if it needs regular monitoring.
  12. I'd really like to know the answer to this as well. I'm going to use this with my dd for 9th grade and have been debating art or geography credit and how much credit. If you find out could you post it back here also?
  13. I have been looking and looking at microscopes for ages and really want to buy one but am so nervous of making a mistake and not getting a good one. I want to get one that will be sufficient for all high school science. I almost bought one at the beginning of this year but then chickened out. So please. please help. If you have a microscope which you have used for high school science and which has been good, could you please tell me which it is and put me out of my misery. Thank you so much, Trenna
  14. Same for us. DD hated them when she was first learning them but once she got the hang of them she could solve almost any word problem out there. Even now, at the end of Alg 1, she still will sometimes use that method instead. She can often intuitively see the solution and I'm sure it's because of the bar diagrams.
  15. I think I read somewhere that companies put those crazy prices on there when they don't have a copy to sell at that time but want to save their place in the line. I guess maybe they think that at that price no one will try to buy it and when they get an actual copy to sell they lower their price to a normal amount. Now this could be completely wrong because I can't remember for sure.
  16. I am no math expert but can tell you what we do with math. If we don't finish then I just have them carry on into summer until we do. I don't want to rush through as I want good understanding, and I think it is quite a good thing to do a little math over the summer anyway, less chance of forgetting everything.
  17. I read it to mean that the child was probably not interested in a STEM career or degree. It sounds like an interesting thing to do but I wonder if it might be better as a high school student than a middle school one. I think it might be better in middle school to enjoy learning some of the things in science that aren't controversial. Of course, if this was a big interest of the student then it sounds like it would be very interesting.
  18. We have been using Science Shepherd Life Science and I would definitely recommend it. It is very thorough and we've learned a lot ( sorry can't get it to unbold).
  19. What exactly is a "nursing strike" and why might it not be the baby self-weaning?
  20. I tried to look for this but couldn't see the answer key. Could you tell me more about how to search for it. I'm afraid I'm somewhat technologically challenged so would really appreciate any help. Thanks, Trenna
