  1. So, I hope it happens for you. For us, my daughter doesn't have this yet. Even friends who she loves to run around with at events...just don't invited her over...ever.... She has friends that seem to like her, but maybe they just don't invite friends over? I know we're very careful about friends over... My husband, though great guy...maybe because he's a great guy, has decided to never be with an unrelated girl...especially a young one. I know a lot of families who are the same...and this protection may lead to the fact that they just don't have kids spend the nights. I kinda miss the days when kids got to be kids...( I know...this leads to problems, too sometimes...) Carrie:-)

  3. Here's another thought... I'm thinking of going to the allergist...again...and having my child tested in a controlled environment. She's allergic to peanuts, nuts, shellfish...and other things. I'd like to know if she's truly allergic or what...because I saw a news show that said that you can test allergic with the scratch test or blood test...and not really be allergic. It's a problem with kids...because everyone is petrified to have someone who comes with Benadryl and an Epi-pen! Carrie

  5. No doubt, I tried to search for them...no luck. When you say something's funny, it's only fair to give us the link:-) Carrie
  6. I might look at detergent, since you just got dressed (probably) new any environment change. If you think it's breakfast....look on the box and see what allergens are in it. Nuts, peanuts, whatever else. Maybe for some reason there's something added? I don't get that itchy from anything....but....we have allergies! Maybe a lotion or new make-up? Hair spray... You have to just go through everything... Doesn't sound like breakfast, though. Were you at work before it started? Carrie
  7. I'm sorry...really sorry for this unexpected death. So sorry! Carrie
  8. There's a Waldorf Yahoo group by Marsha Johnson ( I think ) out of Shining Star in PDX, Oregon. She has a lot of ideas that you might like. I can see many things that you can do to increase creativity and be gentle with your children's introductions to learning. You can read the history that you want them to know and then introduce them to the story. You can have them use Beeswax crayons and such...that really are just beautiful to use and blend together. You can tell them faery tales while they dance around in silk scarves.... You can choose to use their approach to math.... Lots of living subjects. You could even choose to use their history cycles...but still do some type of oral narratives.... Anyway, I wouldn't do Oak Meadow, as it's not really waldorf...and not really WTM. Carrie:-)
  9. This is one of the reasons I started Classical Conversations. A place for my children to be with like minded families. She's had a hard time with real friends. Unlike her next older sister, who seems to have friends who are allowed to spend the night, my daughter's church friends just aren't allowed to be very social. SO, she does ballet twice a week (with almost all homeschoolers). Awanas and Classical Conversations on Wednesdays. Because we see these kids every week and she gets to interact during lunch with them...it seems to help the lonelies.... We are also planning to continue Wednesday get togethers by having Wed field trips. I'm hoping this helps. Both of my littles get lonely. They are 5 and 10 (b & g) and it's just kinda hard when there aren't others... OH...and if you don't want to pay to get together...you can always lead something. The church that we just started, has a community art class for 6 wks at a time. It's free! Who could resist? And, the pastor and his wife have a REALLY nice 10 year old...I'm hoping that perhaps a friendship can develop there. Carrie;-)
  10. Gives you an excuse and reason to nurse longer, right? Course, that could be something that doesn't fit in your wants...But...for me....the my kids won't eat...was a great one:-) Carrie:-)
  11. Oh....I bought soft. It's because I was told that they have enough white space to do the work in the book. If your kids are ok copying everything...it might not work for you. For me, with a few months of Saxon...writing on another sheet of paper...it ruined my chance of having her do work on a separate page. Carrie:-)
  12. I just bought mine for $10. I'll let you know how they look when I get them:-) Carrie:-)
  13. There is a whole thread about this on here, which got me thinking about 5 years for high school. You might be able to dual enroll, as well. Carrie:-)
  14. SO, I just ordered the Lial's for my will be 11 yr old. I figured that it'll be like teaching reading. We'll do it till one of us wants to stop, and then something else. I have her read lots of living math books to her little brother. I am looking at things that are "real life" math and I'm hoping to learn how to use an Abacus this year...so....I hope that we'll be moving at a pace which will make her feel smart but challenged. I'm hoping that as I do math this time, I'll be the one to feel smart the second time around. Carrie:-)
  15. I use WRTR, moderately, and think it's a good program.(My son's 5.5) It's very similar to SWR. My son does his cursive and manuscript phonics, orally, while doing something like jumping on the couch. Next year we'll add more rules to the couple he's learning now. He needs to learn all the two letter phonograms. He only knows a couple right now. I'm also trying to teach him the Cursive First program.... (lots of reasons for this:-) It goes with the SWR program. (although you can use manuscript with SWR....) It's also has a spelling element to it, so I'm not sure about needing a whole other spelling program. Carrie:-)
  16. DVT's...what's that mean? Also, what kind of "teaching" is needed for this? I'm thinking of revisiting Algebra, and so I'd like to do it...a couple of lessons ahead. BUT, my husband is the math pro, so I'd like it to be something he could go over with her at night. Is it a math program that needs to be taught lesson by lesson? Also, would you say that it is a full year program? My daughter is going to be in 6th and we're just done with LOF decimals and percents...so pre/algebra is next, sequence wise. I've pretty much decided that LOF is for "fun" and that she needs something that is more. I'm having a harder time deciding on Math (all the ones talked about on this board) than any other subject! Thanks! Carrie:-)
  17. Can you make use under the stairs? I'd leave the stairs...especially if I could make use of the space underneath... Carrie:-)
  18. Sorry about this.... I feel your pain! Sunshine and Friends...friends bring sunshine to your soul, at least! What does your husband like about PA? What does it bring to his mind? Carrie
  19. If you do CC in a group...it's a live program. You can look it up to see if there's a group near you, but there is a cost.... classicalconversations.com But, as far as the cds....they are just regular cds. Writing....Caley does IEW:-) Carrie:-)
  20. But, just to let you know...if you're solid after LCII, Henle is what my daughter started doing at an early 10. Of course, my mom does it with her. I also have her spend quite a bit of time with Latin. I'm trying to work her up towards an hour a day, which is the suggested time. The first of Henle, is review of LC. Carrie:-)
  21. My friend has a 3 part rubber mattress....She loves it. I went in to lie on it, and it was comfie.... She has a mixture of real rubber and artificial, I think. Carrie:-)
  22. PCA pastors have their kids in public school????? I'm disappointed! Our PCA pastor talked about unequally yoked and how it's not just referring to marriage. We shouldn't put ourselves in situations where we are intimately integrated with those who don't believe as we do. (Don't shoot me, I have friends who aren't Christians, but my children wouldn't be trained by them.) Carrie:-)
  23. Funny, We are attending a PCA church here, too! I love it...my husband not so much right now... There are tons of homeschoolers...and the only big things are the baptism (but many in the church don't do paedo baptism) and then the end times thing...which also affects the view of Israel, right?... The church is warm and genuinely friendly, and I'm praying we get to stay! They also will do baptism for our 5 yr old with the old "Baptist" tub... I love the children in the service....the part that the church family is together. I also love the fact that Reformed churches tend to value education...Christian education! It's really important to them for their children to have a great Christian worldview and it's evident. I don't think you'll meet a pastor with his kids in public school. Carrie:-)
