  1. You could save a bit by buying the older foundations guide and just making corrections. Easy...what I would have kept using, if I wasn't a Director. I say that it's a great thing to do at home, and the songs aren't THAT bad:-) Just from listening to it around town and on the way to CC, all my kids learned most of the songs. (And the two oldest weren't in CC classes.) Carrie
  2. Actually, I think she could be correct. You really need to check the law out so you know your choices. Then sit with a mediator and talk about it. No crazy emotions and someone who you can both trust to call you a time-out if needed. Don't crush her at this point. Give her a way to make this right. "Maybe you should move out" is like "maybe we should get divorced"... You should really be careful in saying it, because it hurts feelings, and you can only say it a couple of times before you follow through. Carrie
  3. Oh, I almost forgot the pastry with potato inside. What are those called? Oh, Yeh... potato knish!! (And Rosie, there are a lot of Jewish Cooking cookbooks...I'll join you looking for what others recommend.) Carrie:-)
  4. Oh My! How incredibly sad! I'm so sorry for her kids (and her husband??) I'll be thinking/praying for them. Carrie
  5. I have to say that I think the collection of history sentences and some of the other things from the Classical Conversations guide is great. They have the old version of the foundations guide, which says that it can be used in a classroom on sale, I think...still. Living Memory is also a wonderful resource for a collection of memory work. Carrie:-) PS, I see that you're in PDX, Emily, and there are Classical Conversations groups that meet weekly...just wanted to mention in case you're interested...
  6. I was surprised that my daughter wouldn't ride her bike; this after I bought a new..nice..bike for her! The next summer, she learned to ride because a little girl a couple of houses down taught her. This is after the adults (Uncle/Dad/Me) had all tried to teach her. It just takes the initial "go" and then they're done. You really can't force that. Carrie:-)
  7. Oh my gosh! I understand the "tea" thing...pancakes...I take at "face value". Carrie
  8. Also, when I adopted our dog, I read a lot about introductions. I was VERY nervous about them being together. I also took the dog to training right away. A couple of things, I didn't let him off the leash for the first couple of weeks. Second, when I did my husband was the one who forced it. I was nervous. Holding the collar of a dog, I was told, actually revs them. Many don't like a pinch collar, but I use it sparingly. We put it on when we introduced them...and I use it when I walk.... Also, I set up my cat as alpha...doing things like talking to it first, feeding it first, and yet at the time I was walking my dog 3 hours a day because we had to put the fence back up.... He's a great dog and they just snuggle up.... Good Luck! Carrie
  9. Hey There, For hunting, isn't it http://asianbamboobengals.net/?gclid=CLjRgvXhv5sCFSMSagod0m9BAg that are suppose to be awesome for hunting critters? Also, http://www.angelfire.com/mt/yowie/pages/allergic.htm for a bit of information about allergies with cats. I don't know that I'd get a cat if I was allergic to it, unless I could find one that I wasn't... I have to say that I'm slightly allergic to ours, but not enough to not have her. After all, I'm allergic to a lot of things. Carrie
  10. Sounds good to me! Maybe your husband is hoping to be able to treat you by barbques more often! Carrie
  11. Actually, I'm thinking that it'd be interesting to know how much math was a separate part in true classical learning. Are we sure that it was taught as a singled out subject at an early age? Some of their ideas may truly surprise us. Carrie:-) (If anyone knows, this is an invite to inform me:-)
  12. And btw, If I lived around you I wouldn't want any limit. You've asked us about desserts so much, that I couldn't help but expect that we'd be eating...a lot!! Carrie:-)
  13. I like Staples. I take all my printer cartridges back and get the credit.... Carrie:-)
  14. :-) I understand:-) I hope you enjoy whatever you get... I do think that calling cavies "piggies" is cuter:-) Carrie:-) PS, ours was not an overly huge tank.
  15. Sorry for you!! How miserable. I got the "start" of bronchitis for the first time I ever remember...a few weeks ago...right along with my allergies. All together I couldn't do anything for about 5 weeks. So, if he says he's miserable after a couple...and he looks ok...baby him...If it's at all like me...all I could do was the computer and sitting on my butt. It was really maybe the worst I've ever been...long term. Popsicles.... ice cream....you know:-) and chx noodle soup :-) Carrie
  16. We kept them in a cage, so no problem. The I had a kinda large box with no bottom and I could put it out on the grass. I hadn't heard about the fact that the sun was bad for them. I'm thankful that they stayed happy and alive! Carrie
  17. My thought is I'll wait for them to do at least one revised edition. I'm a Christian, and my hope is for my children to be able to read the New Testament in Greek fluently, so that parts a plus for me. Both on one page seems like it might not be perfect, though. Carrie
  18. The jewish person that I nannied for said it tasted like her g-ma's (she didn't call her bubby or whatever) chicken noodle soup. That may have been the nicest thing she ever said to me.
  19. Usually, they're called Guinea Pigs here. They are a bit more of a calm pet. Honestly, I'm not sure if a 3 year old would be old enough to play with them... a lot...(But then a little girl I babysat when I was younger..."hugged/loved" a gerbil to death....by squeezing to hard.) Are you planning to supervise all the playing? I think they're much more fun than a rat or mouse. I would only have them inside. I thought of building a cage and having a couple. Other's would have more information about gender and such...ours, we borrowed, were cute:-) Carrie
  20. They last forever! My son plays with the ones my brother played with 25 years ago... They have really cool books to go with them, too! Carrie
  21. How old are your children? My son hasn't had formal math, but I've looked to see what he should be understanding. Barring an understanding problem, kids can catch up all their math in a few months at an older age. I do read a lot of the books you'll find on the living math site, and he/we play on the abacus, and he does oral math with us and also skip counts from the 1's - 15's. So, that's what we do... BUT, he's only 6. (just yesterday) Carrie
