  1. :iagree: It is harder for me to be friends with women. There are a few women at our church that I can relate to, so that helps. I had several male friends before marriage, and we were "just friends", but I have found since then that they thought or hoped there was more. It really surprised me. So for me, it's just the few women I can relate to and my husband.
  2. This one that I had overlooked in years pass, after i had searched out the best rate, and it had stayed about the same I never thought of checking around. Here is my commercial: "I saved hundreds of dollars by switching to Geico" :D It really is true, we saved about 45%. So check around at least once a year to make sure you still have the best rate. I was a little nervous to leave Allstate, but I did a line by line policy comparison and it really was basically the same coverage.
  3. Yes there is! It is called http://www.parkercountyhomeschool.org/ Editing to add that it is a Christian group if that is a concern.
  4. We always fry. It taste great, is juicy, and only takes about 20 minutes. It frees my oven for all the other things that need to be in there.
  5. I have not read all the reply's- with 20 pages I can only imagine what has been said! ;) However, yes I believe in biblical submission to our husbands and letting them lead. Yes, I have seen many life changes right before my very eyes. God is good, and I know that people can think of a million reasons to try to tell you/me why it doesn't work, but the truth is it does work, I have seen it, and it even works in my marriage. I am not cowering in a corner, or just "dealing" with my marriage, I am gloriously happy, and I give all the praise to my Lord and savior. My life could have been so very different. :D
  6. :iagree: However, this particular dd seems to have issues with having "things" in her hair. Hairbands cause her head to ache, and scrunchies, braids, or bands cause her to get a head ache,( or her hair hurts? ). I have short curly hair, and always have so I have no experience with all that stuff. My other dd's do not seem to have a problem with any of it unless I get it too tight. I am just learning this whole hair thing myself since I never had much hair to do anything with. When my hair is too long, it is so thick it Afros when I straighten it, it is not a pretty straight, more like hay. :D So see, I need all the help I can get.
  7. Why is this so hard to find??? I am looking for pictures of little girls hairstyles so I can get some ideas of what to do with my daughters hair! Does anyone know where I can find these online? I want a cute, no maintenance cut, for an 11yo tomboy with medium length, wavy hair!
  8. I just received an email from Stanley that the new LOF book pre algebra biology has arrived! Woo Hoo!! :hurray: The easiest way to order is to visit the Web site: http://www.PolkaDotPublishing.com and click on the center box marked "Order."
  9. Loved the geography game, loved the missionary stories! :D The science was a little light, but it can easily be enhanced. The crafts were easy enough, yet still benefitialand not busy work, Overall a good year and we would use it again.
  10. Is anyone's children involved in puppet ministry? If so where do you buy your puppets? We need a quality puppet for my son, but also reasonably priced as he is just getting into this. :)
  11. Well, I used to live in Grand Prairie, which is right next door to Arlington. South of 20 in Grand Prairie off of Carrier Parkway is the Westshester neighborhoods and they are pretty nice. It was quiet, still close to everything, a few nice parks, and a YMCA. There is also a homeschool store in Duncanville (about a 20 minute drive) that was a great place to visit and get good deals. In Arlington you either want to stay south of 20 or north of 30 (for the most part, there are exceptions). Burleson is not too far from there, and it is a quieter place to live. Several people also commute in from Aledo (about a 1/2 hour to 45 minute drive depending on the traffic) so they can live more in the country. Hope that helps, and please PM me if you have any other questions or ways I can help I can't keep up with the boards. :001_smile: I have not lived in that area for a few years now, but will help in anyway I can.
  12. Ds(11) a big leather jacket with fringe- think Davy crockett, he can still wear it and loves it! dd - all ages love littlest pet shop, polly pocket, sweet street, I made quilts one year and that was a big hit, and the dolls we made for them were well loved as well.
  13. While I am not Catholic, I do not think there is anything in there that would go against Catholic beliefs.
  14. We love these books! I already had them all from previous years, but they are 1 tradition we wouldn't do without. :D
  15. See that was what I was thinking, but wanted to make sure I was not being unrealistic.
  16. All my other children love MFW, but this one child wants to do more of a sporadic unit study approach- a different topic every few weeks. She does not mind listening to Story of the world, etc, but does not want to have to "do" anything with it. Do I oblige her and use something different (which can be the beauty of homeschooling, but a pain), or just have her deal with it? Just wondering if you have had this issue and how you have dealt with it. Editing to add that she is the 10, almost 11 year old. She would spend her time baking and taking care of babies if she could.
  17. Yes- it is anything goes- yes it is a co-op. The ages range from 5-15 but the parents are right there to help and keep their kids under control and safe.
  18. I have a 2 hour class coming up that I have to teach on anything I want to. I want it to be at least partially hands on for the kids, but I am limited by having no kitchen. I was thinking of doing 2 liter soda bottle rockets, but it may be chilly out, and I am not sure we can get it all done in 2 hours. :001_huh: The class is in 1 week, and I have been trying to figure this out (off and on) since September. Please tell me you have some ideas to share with me. (where is the begging smiley?)
  19. Check out this site and see if it will help you. It was a huge blessing for me. http://www.design-your-homeschool.com/language-arts.html#writing Best of all, it is free!
  20. Thank you! I thought I was going crazy! :001_huh:
  21. Is anyone else having trouble opening the LCC site? I have tried both computers here at home, and clicked various links and I keep getting an error message. Anyone else?
  22. I have been using FIAR now for 9 years with various children. We are not project type people, but the post Jane has on the boards about conversational learning is more what we do. You may want to go to the boards and read, sign up and read the archives. Check out the FIAR blogs, there are several that inspire me. I will try to go and copy them here, but I am running short on time this morning. I love FIAR, and Homeschool Share. There are so many ways to do it, surely one will be right for you. :D
