  1. I used this series (Biology, Chemistry, Earth & Space and Physics) to bridge the gap between using the elementary Apologia books (Astronomy, Botony and Zoology) and the junior high Apologia General Science. My boys have enjoyed both the elementary Apologia books and the Christian Kids Explore series. I have also added in other living science books and a lot of extra science experiments. But, they seem to have a good foundation in science. :001_smile:
  2. I'm surprised no one has mentioned this ~ Hidden Valley Ranch dressing
  3. We received our catalog last week as well. My boys always look forward to reading it and adding their favorite items to their Christmas lists.
  4. We are using a cash system here as well and I agree... the money seems to be disappearing at a faster rate each month. I have a personal challenge for myself to start using coupons and learning the grocery/drugstore savings "games". Hopefully the savings will start to add up and make it worth while.
  5. Count me in! I've been cleaning out closets (ever so slowly) and this is just the motivation that I need. Thanks!
  6. My boys just started their second year with 4-H. Last year they completed photography, woodworking and baking projects. They also participated in our county wide competition with Lego's and extreme birdhouse building. So far this year, they have completed the photography project (I blogged about it this week) and are currently working on the woodworking project. There are many specialty clubs within our 4-H group that also meet during the school year. We haven't gone to any of those, but if we had more time I'm sure we would enjoy those too.
  7. The Mad Scientist's Club Henry Reed, Inc. The Marvelous Inventions of Alvin Fernald Ulysses Moore, The Door to Time Series
  8. Normally I would be out with my dh and boys hiking, rock climbing or playing disc golf. But it is unusually cold this weekend. So, we started a nice fire and turned on college football. Of course, I'm also on the WTM boards {grin}.
  9. I've been measured several times, by different stores, and am currently a 34D. I've worn VS for years. But, I feel the quality is not what it used to be and the marketing is geared for the younger generation. I'm ready to move on and those Wacoal bras might just be what I'm looking for. I hope there is a sale around Christmas!
  10. I loved playing with that when I was younger! However, since I only have boys, I haven't looked for it or seen it in years.
  11. My boys are already very active in the outdoors. So, I haven't done scouts. But, the younger boys are involved with a local 4-H club. In our club the boys are active with photography, wood working, speech, baking, and county round up competitions. No farming here.
  12. Pre-cooked chili or beef stew heats up quick and makes for a hearty meal. Hamburgers and hot dogs are quick and easy to grill. Pre-made foil packages (can even be made with leftovers) with meat, potatoes and vegetables can cook on a grill or in the coals of a fire. For breakfast sometimes we make a hash - which is basically cooking eggs, cheese, hash brown potatoes, and bacon together in a cast iron skillet - yum.
  13. I'm currently using Tapestry of Grace, year 3 (the 20th Century) with my twin 11 year old sons and really enjoy it. However, I have also used and enjoyed Winterpromise.
  14. This is probably late, but I did a quick post this morning on my blog with a neat link and recipe for Columbus day.
  15. I watched Royal Pains and Burn Notice this summer and I just finished catching up with Warehouse 13 on Hulu. The other shows on your list look interesting as well. I'll have to try to watch a few episodes when I get a chance.
  16. I've taken my KEVA planks to our local Co-op group for game time. Kids from ages 3 and up FLOCK to them and play with them endlessly. It truly is a toy that can be enjoyed by kids and adults. You don't have to build elaborate structures. The younger kids can start by stacking the blocks and building simple patterns. It's amazing what they come up with when they use their imagination.
  17. I started out buying 200 planks for my 3 boys (it came in a cardboard box). That was two years ago. They loved it and I bought another box of 200 planks last Christmas. The boxes have held up well, but as I buy more I've been thinking of putting them in a large plastic tub. 400 seems to be a good amount. However, my boys still want more, so it is on the list again this year. I don't mind the investment because they continue to play with them and make more elaborate creations. They also like to video the destruction and play it back in slow motion. :001_smile:
