Another round of You Know You Homeschool When...
BellaMama replied to kalanamak's topic in General Education Discussion Board
Dd8 and Ds6 enjoy playing "rock band".( With a plastic tambourine, castagnet and a xylophone!) They are both involved in classical music lessons and enjoy listening to a variety of musical styles. Unfortunately for my sensitive ears, Dd8 was singing "Tick, tock,... DJ blow my speakers up" Needless to say, I am not ready for her to be singing these types of songs. She doesn't really know the lyrics, so it thankfully didn't last very long. A few minutes later she exclaims that she has found the coolest cd and runs back to the basement. Now they are "rocking it" to ..... geography songs!! "The eastern border of the United States...." :tongue_smilie: -

Oh I'm so sorry you are feeling overwhelmed! Can you ask everyone to take a half hour quiet time after lunch? Take a moment for yourself. Personnally, I would have a good cry, chocolate, delegate supper to Pizza Hut... Hold the fort together until Dh,grand-ma or a sitter can offer you some well deserved support. :grouphug:

How unfortunate. How did your daughter react when it happenned? Does she know how to defend herself? (verbally of course) When my 5 year old was having a difficult time at school we practiced together, role played. He is very sensitive, did not know how how to stand up for himself as he had never encountered this teasing behaviour at home . He would never raise his voice to his peers even when punched in the stomach for example. And so role playing became part of our routine. It gave him practice in having a voice, assert himself with phrases like " I do not like when you do....", "Stop doing ..... or I will tell the teacher". Posture, tone of voice make the difference. It's a life skill that helps him everyday. How does she feel about it now? She might start getting over it before you do. So much happens during a school day. I would contact teacher and principal, and then turn the page. They will be back home soon. Enjoy the the end of the school year! Isabelle

He has been through so much, it's great to hear he is growing well ! Sounds like your life is returning back to normal, little by little. :001_smile: I hope you can start to relax, enjoy this part of his babyhood, the cuddles, the smiles, feeling his breath on your neck, holding his little body in your arms...(I miss having a baby, can you tell?) Keep up the good work Amber!:grouphug:

Cheap backyard fun...ideas?
BellaMama replied to joannqn's topic in General Education Discussion Board
1. I realize the sand in the box with lid will be cleaner, but our sandbox doesn't get used anymore because it is too small. The kids still love playing in the sand at the park. Is there a way you could have a medium/large sandy/(dirt/rock) corner that would allow for all four children to build and play? 2. I loved making forts out of turned over lawn chairs, old sheets, clothespins. 3. Start a small garden for the kids to work in. -
We bought the Leksvik model and were very pleased with it. It was a sturdy, simple model.

Fish oil and vit D. Multivitamins have not been proven to help keep people healthy, actually I think it is quite the contrary... I believe in eating plant based foods; natural phytonutrients (lots of veggies, green tea, turmeric and other herbs...) limiting red meats to max of 500g/week and daily moderate exercise. Isabelle

I just cleaned my front loader - I feel disgusting!
BellaMama replied to momee's topic in General Education Discussion Board
Front loaders do have a lot of nooks where residue can build up. Luckily, I haven't had any problems (yet) but I don't use softener. I wonder if it contributes to the residue building up? I also use vinegar in the rinse occasionnally, I think it helps rinse off the tray. There is a cleaner called "Affresh". I just popped one in on the "clean machine" cycle.:001_smile: It has worked well in the past. HTH, Isabelle -
Craft idea for 9yo birthday party?
BellaMama replied to mo2's topic in General Education Discussion Board
Making bath bombs, lip gloss? Painting a bird house? Spring is just around the corner... Are you able to modify the scavenger hunt in your home? If they dress warmly can they still have it outside? Sorry, that's all I have for now! -
