  1. Thank you. I'm worried about the drug content. I have two brothers that struggle with drug addiction, so that topic is one that we guard our kids from because, unfortunately, they have enough real-world experience with the fallout from addiction.
  2. Is The Accidental Spy appropriate for an 11.5 yo boy? My almost 12 year old has been invited over to a friend's house tonight. The other boy's mom said they wanted to watch Jackie Chan's The Accidental Spy. I'm not against him watching a movie just because it's PG-13, so I usually check Common Sense Media or Plugged-in for their reviews to see if it's appropriate. However, this movie isn't on either site. Can anyone give me a good parental review or point me to a site that has one?
  3. I just checked. We've been on there since December of 1998. We actually joined so early in its existence, that our user ID is our last name!
  4. One of the moms at my group bought it and loves it. It is exactly the same as the memory work found on CC connected. It's downloaded onto the iPad, so you don't have to have a connection to use it. I'm getting an iPad next month and can't wait to get it!
  5. Or you can just write down each new segment when you're in class each week.
  6. I'm a CC Foundations director and I can tell you that the art period you saw is one of my least favorites of all the art projects we do. Very, very, difficult project to pull together and do during the allotted time. Three of my tutors managed to pull it off and two of them didn't. We try to look at the art time as one of exposure and practicing different techniques. It's not necessarily a time to come away with an amazing finished project.
  7. We don't really have any rules as far as food goes except to make sure our peanut allergic child and his siblings don't eat anything without their mom approving.
  8. My son's 10th birthday is coming up and I would like to take a special snack to his CC class. I love this idea. Can y'all think of substitute food items, though? I'm not against the treat being sweet, but Twinkies and doughnuts seem a little over the top. (One little boy in his class is very allergic to peanuts, but his mom is great about helping us come up with alternatives for him or bringing a substitute treat herself.)
  9. That's what I did when my kids were younger, too. Nothing to lose, mangle, fiddle with, etc. I just freshened it up every morning.
  10. My son has been using Lively Latin for a couple of years now and *loves* it. He has told me that he could do Latin all day long. Yesterday, we observed a Latin class that was doing Henle I. They conjugated "to call" as vocō, vocāre, vocāvī, vocātus however in Lively Latin we conjugate it as vocō, vocāre, vocāvī, vocātum. Can someone explain 1) why there is a difference between the two and 2) will this cause much confusion and frustration for my Latin loving boy? My plan had been to learn Latin along with him. I've kept up with the vocabulary, but he passed me a long time ago in grammar. :D
  11. Praying. I PMd you my phone number. Tell Tammy I am happy to help in any way that I can. I live literally two minutes from the gym.
  12. This morning my sixth grader and I were reading selections from the three witches scene in Macbeth. Apparently my first grader was listening in because I just heard him say, "Double, double, toilet trouble."
  13. :iagree: or your state's Insurance Commissioner. My cousin had a similar situation where she had insurance on herself through her employer, but her baby was going to be on her DH's insurance when she was born. My cousin's insurance wanted her to give birth at hospital A, but the baby's insurance said they would only pay for the baby's expenses if she was born at hospital B. The state insurance commissioner finally got involved and it all worked out, but my cousin had to make a lot of calls and pester the right people before the baby's insurance would pay.
  14. They are also pronounced differently in American English.
  15. I have the same kind of dream, except my door leads to a second kitchen and additional common areas. :D
  16. I'm right there with you. I don't go to the library anymore because of the outrageous fines I've accumulated through the years. Maybe this will make you feel better. :D
  17. I like the shows you mentioned, and I fell asleep in the first 20 minutes. My DH, however, said that I should try watching it again. He thought I'd really like it. I guess I'm not much help, am I? :D
  18. I use mine for Bible verses and other memory work. I print them out, mount them to a pretty sheet of scrapbook paper, then laminate. They sit in my Sonlight basket until we have them memorized, then I put them on the wall at the bottom of the stairs leading to the schoolroom. It makes it more durable than just a loose sheet hanging around in my Sonlight basket and then it's ready for display when it's memorized.
  19. You'll have to insist on reading Charlotte's Web next. That's our current read aloud and my three boys love it. They don't like the movie either.
