  1. And those of us who have family members who have battled other types of cancer can "may feel an entire range of emotions" at the great emphasis given to this one type of cancer. (I've lost an aunt to breast cancer and my dad and another aunt to leukemia.)
  2. Thank you ladies! I knew I could count on y'all to answer my questions. :grouphug:
  3. This is the only place I could think of to get an honest answer from a group of ladies who will understand that I'm just seeking information and not trying to pick a fight. I love this board! Background: My neighbors and I have had a large block party on Halloween night for the past 10/11 years. We have food, candy, jack-o-lanterns, a keg, and big bonfire. It is really just a fun time and the one night of the year where we all get together, have fun, and hang out until the wee hours. We are all either Christians or non-religious. Current Situation: We now have a Wiccan family that has moved onto the street, right across from where we have the party. She is not very friendly (I think it's just her personality...it has nothing to do with her beliefs) so none of the rest of us on the street have gotten to know her well. We are wondering what kind of reaction we might get from her about our party. We obviously don't want her to think we are making fun of her beliefs. Do we have anything to worry about? Is there something we can do or say to make sure she feels welcome at our Halloween but not Samhaim party? I hesitate to post this, but I want to "seek first to understand." Thanks.
  4. You need an audible account, but you do not need an audible membership plan. You have to click on "Already have an Audible account? Sign in here." Once you click that, it will take you to a sign in page and at the bottom it says, "Don't have an Audible account? Create one." Click on that page and you can sign in with your Amazon account.
  5. Just added the Bones theme for email notifications and the Mad Men theme for calls from my DH.
  6. What is your ringtone and text message notification? I got a new phone yesterday, so I'm having fun resetting all my ringtones. My general ringtone is the theme music from Downton Abbey and my text notification is Doctor Who (Matt Smith) saying "You've got a text message. Text messages are cool." I'm in the process of assigning specific ringtones to frequent callers. This is fun!
  7. You just say, "Time to leave! Glad you could come over and play this afternoon."
  8. Have they looked into Myelodysplastic Syndrome? It is a blood disorder that can develop after chemotherapy. It's what Robin Roberts has as a result of her breast cancer treatment several years ago. I mentioned above that my dad's leukemia started out with high fevers. What I didn't mention is that his first diagnosis was Myelodysplastic Syndrome which then transitioned into leukemia. (He had never had chemotherapy--his Myelodysplastic Syndrome was spontaneous.) Please ask the doctors about this. I'll pray for her and your family. We've been there with weeks and weeks of unexplained illness and know how hard it is on the patient and family.
  9. Praying. My dad's leukemia started with high unexplained fevers. Hoping something simple is found quickly.
  10. You would need to unfriend them and block them. Otherwise, they may see you around fb and realize you've unfriended them. It you block them, they will probably think you just deleted your account.
  11. I think everyone here might be on the right track. The most telling part for me was her boyfriend (at the time) saying he didn't have anything to worry about when she confessed her friendship with him.
  12. I just have to put in a plug here for WW. I'm a lifetime member and I have done several versions of the program. This most recent version, PointsPLUS, is absolutely doable for the rest of your life. I do not feel deprived (I had a Snickers about an hour ago!), and have no problems saying on plan. They really have moved toward a more balanced, whole foods kind of eating plan. I really hate to even call it a diet.
  13. :iagree: Granny might appreciate a little break during the week. If Granny doesn't want a break, then tell SIL. "Sorry, Granny is in charge that week and she's packed the schedule full already." ETA: Should have read the whole thread before I responded.
  14. I have a young 5th grader who struggled for years to learn to read. He and I put in a lot of hard work and now he can decode on grade level (maybe even a little above.) However, reading is still slow going and he still balks at reading anything other than very easy "Step into Reading" type books. He has read a couple of Magic Treehouse under protest, but he refused to read more than a chapter a day instead of letting himself be drawn into the story. He loves stories. He loves for me to read out loud to him. He loves to listen to audiobooks--the more dramatic the reader/s the better. He loves movies. He loves for my DH to tell stories about when he was a little boy. I know that he will love reading once he gives it a real chance. I would love any ideas on how to get him over that hump? Books that he may enjoy? Tactics or techniques I can try? TIA
  15. I'm the oldest and have three younger brothers. Now I have three little boys. One girl and three boys has been a way of life for me for a long time. At least when I still lived at home I had my mom. Now it's me, my DH, our three boys, and a male cat. There are advantages to being the only girl, but it can get lonely at times.
  16. Same here. You're just the courier service. Let the judges decide whether or not to allow the incorrectly done entries. Not your job.
  17. I'm a director and I want to address the CC Connected issue. Your director has to enter all of her families into the portal and it's a time intensive, un-intuitive process. It just opened within the past week and she may have other things she needs to spend her time doing right now. Since your community is about to start, she is probably busier than at any other time of the year and has had to put off entering families.
  18. Anki looks nice, but it is pricey. I'll check out Flashcards+ One other think I would like is something that supports multiple users.
  19. I'm looking for a flashcard app for the iPad. I prefer one that uses the Leitner Box or some other kind of system that weeds out cards as they are learned. I would also like one where we can enter the info from our laptop and then access it on the iPad. Any suggestions?
  20. I hear you on that one. Most of the communication from by son's gym IS IN ALL CAPS!!!! DRIVES ME BONKERS!!!! PLEASE STOP!!!
