The Blood of Olympus

Is there not a thread yet about the release of the final book in the Heroes of Olympus series? I'm amazed. I received it this weekend as a belated birthday present and read it during every spare moment. I was a bit disappointed that Percy didn't have a voice in this last installment, but he got his own series, so I guess I shouldn't complain :). I won't spoil it, but I'll say I found the conclusion satisfying and thought it wrapped things up well while still leaving room for more books if Riordan chooses to add another series about Greek and Roman Demigods.

I was also excited to see on the last page that the first installment in a series about Norse Mythology is due out next year: Magnus Chase and the Gods of Asgard: The Sword of Summer. I've been trying to send Riordan telepathic messages for years to tell him to write a Norse mythology series, so I guess it finally worked :). Either that, or it was just the next logical mythology to move to. I've been enjoying The Blackwell Pages series (about Norse Mythology), but I don't think the books are as well written or as well executed as Riordan's stuff.

I do have to say, though, I was a bit disappointed that there is no indication that he's going to write books bringing the Greek/Roman and Egyptian worlds together. There were some hints that he might do that in The Kane Chronicles. Apparently there's a short story in which Carter Kane and Percy Jackson meet, but it's only available on Kindle, and I don't have one.

My DS is reading it now. I read both of the kindle short stories and it seemed obvious that he was setting up a crossover book. If he doesn't, it will seem really strange to me. DS was convinced that was going to be the plot of Blood of Olympus. He's a little disappointed it's not but hopeful that it means there's a new crossover series in Riordan's head.

He announced the Nordic gods series, including that the first would be released about fall 2015, at least a couple years ago.  Before Kane Chronicles were finished.  He also said he will never do two series at once again.  That was just insane.

I just started reading BOO.

There are TWO Kindle short stories? Now I really need a kindle. Maybe the Norse god kids will somehow meet up with the kids from the other  books? Okay, probably not, but I can hope.

Well, honestly my children nor I were happy with the ending.....I want to spoil it and talk about it, but I will not.  It did seem just a bit too happy for me.  And, while "technically" following the prophecy really did not do it justice.

Also, I felt that adding in Reyna's and Nico's 1st person perspcectives into the books kind of left out some of the others like Piper's and Frank's.  Speaking of Frank, I thought the stick was just a little bit underwhelming, and needed a bigger part of the book.

So, overall, I was a little disappinted.  SIGH  I did not want to be disappointed with this book, but I did like the series overall.
